Any 096 or 110 battery will fit.   The longest warranty is 5 years so anything beyond that has to be taken as a bonus.  Bosch S4 or S5, Yuasa 5000, Varta Silver seem to be the common choices.  As for 'better' or 'worse', look up the highest CCA (Cold crank amps), these are quite big capacity high compression engines so take a kick to get them running.  Then keep the battery in condition with regular use or a CTEK, or similar, battery conditioner.

    Sorry it’s an s4 010 not O8

so I guess the 08 won’t do. I will take another look

    Thankyou

  2. Sorry if this has been done before

But does a Bosch s5 008 096 battery fit the 986 or is there a better one .

My Bosch s4 096 has lasted 9 years but always looking to improve

    Thankyou

  3. I don’t think it’s a problem with aftermarket parts, I have euro cup gt headers and the Porsche specialist I used wrapped the pipe with heat shield when fitting as they knew what they were doing.

From what I’ve learnt on here since owning a 986 I would definitely get it inspected by a professional as so many are maintained on a shoe string by many that don’t know what they are doing.
Many are also very well maintained (just not to upset the few that do things properly).

Single or dual row bearing ? The engine was not serviceable ?
from 2008 till now you have the original bearing ?

    Single row .

As the complete engine was replaced in 2008 it was fitted with the larger 6305 bearing that can’t be replaced without splitting the engine.

It should really be called "belting a large hole in the muffler mod" its that primitive.

    Not well regarded then?
Haven’t really read all the exhaust mod  threads on here so to cut to the chase what’s the best way to make the 986 sound a bit more like it should other than desnorkel ? ie is there an ultimate rear silencer ?

  6. Hi

With a lot of exhaust talk going on has anyone on here done the crios mod?
What size holes and does it affect emissions?
Are you happy with the results?

Glad I bought mine when I did. I was thinking about waiting to see if the price dropped 😂

You made a wise choice there👌
By the time I make up my mind on which shift to choose there probably go up again 🤣

OPC price is £244.64 plus VAT

    Its a group 2 part so 9apart will get 10% maybe 12%

    Ebay will take 20%

Basically they will make about a tenner on it!

Had a new quote today, you are correct it’s gone up by £80 in a matter of a few months 😳

    Fitted yesterday.

What a difference - each gear now has a position rather than a general area. Should have done this years ago...

Took an hour or so as i spent time cleaning/vacuuming as i went. No issues noted - it's only bolts (..to coin a phrase i heard recently..!)

    Great mod, recommended.

    Fantastic! Well done!
As well as being a nicer shift do you think it feels a lot shorter?

That’s interesting where did you get that price ?
My local Porsche Centre gave me these prices

Maybe I was given special treatment as I did turn up in a different car to the 986? It would make sense as when I went there the first time in the 986 they practically ignored me but the second time I turned up to collect some parts and arrived in one of my other cars they couldn’t of done more for me 🤣

Unless it is the rare short shift part but then I'd expect that to be plastered over the listing....

No it shows the same part no.99742401000

Maybe they have listed it wrong?

Collected my 17" rims for Wheel Clinic in Northampton.  Full strip, buckle check and repaint in OE silver £324.  Very happy with the finish and the service.  Big improvement on the job a PO had done, wrong colour and peeling and blown lacquer coat you can now clearly read the detail of the wheel width and offset by the valve stem.  Now to wear the tyres out to put all season tyres on for winter use.

Lidl for 4 years now, 🙂  £13 last week in my local

I’ve been using the Aldi equivalent until yesterday after seeing someone test one whilst charging. It seemed to overcharge.

This might explain why I had a small lake in my passenger footwell

So what we're saying is the filter itself needs to be dry or the thing it lives inside?

Even if the foam cover is intact and all looks good depending on how you park water can still somehow make it’s way past. I’ve found the black plastic shroud cover isn’t 100% even if fitted correctly if parked at a slight slope or angle . Water can still track down so a little tape will stop this. If you have a wet passenger footwell and wet pollen cabin filter a little tape as shown will at least eliminate if this is the cause as you will see if the pollen filter stays dry. Goes without saying to make sure all drain holes are clear.

    In order of preference:

    2 - 1 - 3 for a daily driver.

Like Ed, I also put new cables in as one snapped.

I'd also recommend changing the gearbox oil - Porsche state its "lifetime" I disagree.

Thankyou, is the 997 short-shift yet again noticeably different to the standard 997? Worth the extra pennies?
