What were your thoughts as opposed to the 997 standard shift?
I have been quoted for these 3 options from Porsche.
1) 99742240100 £160 standard
2) 99742498300 £313 997 short
3) 98642401004 £340 986 short
Unsure which to go for ? Just want a shorter shift that isn’t notchy.

Anyone on here with a short shift that was standard fit on the anniversary?

Hi - I bought this item.
The gearchange on my car, especially downshifting to second is rubbish - hope this improves this..
I will do a write up with images when the weather's warmer and i get around to fitting it.
Also - my next steps are 'box oil flush, cable easing / greasing, clutch pedal helper spring replacement and finally clutch / flywheel replacement..
Great look forward to it 👍

Anyone on here buy the 987 shifter listed in ‘For sale’ ?
Would be a nice picture guide to show throw before and after pictures with measurements. I’m sure many would appreciate this 👍 I would for sure as pondering on this or the original short shift fitted to the anniversary.

When I purchased mine it cost £20k. I have not added up the subsequent invoices. There’s nothing “budget” about it apart from “over budget” possibly
Had a proper 911SC hotrod during the time I’ve owned my 986. Massive sense of occasion - not as much fun as my lil’ ol’ Boxster.
The clue was is my sentence ‘majority’
Not everyone!

I think at the end of the day if funds were not an issue a Boxster 4.0 GTS manual would be my pick but I am considering a 987 3.2s for the moment but still yet to drive one to compare with the 986.
Flat six classic is relatively near and seem to have them sorted ready to go. -
I think for the majority the 986 is an introduction to Porsche ownership on a budget and really we all want a 911😊

300bhp beauty by Rindt Design well worth a look. I hope they post more videos and details 🙏

And an auto!

I think like you , with an old 986 that’s worth less than a toothbrush it’s meaningless unless it’s corker!
Enjoy it and have fun👍 -

It’s a fob. I have no idea how to post a video. It’s on the 986 Owners site on Facebook. It’s bloody loud. I joined the M25 at jct 5 on full chat in 2nd, then 3rd up to around 6500. People were screaming and topping themselves. It was wonderful 😂
Fob, ok , I wonder if it is possible to wire to a spare switch on the dash like the 996?
Do you know if there is any adverse effect on power?
I will take a look on FB

This morning I visited La Rose Porsche in Sevenoaks where Dean Horvath and his bunch of merry men fitted this.

Video please 🙏
Do you get the wan##r button on the dash or is it a remote?

I have the Michelin N3’s on one set of wheels and Goodyears on another.
For everyday road use the Goodyears are more comfortable and quieter and I actually prefer them but that is my opinion

You have clearly never taken the cats off a 986!
The only ones nicked generally are the ones on an inline front to rear exhaust as they can get under the car with a disc cutter and whip them away quickly.
You are correct I never have!
-
I expect it’s more likely to find you ‘cats’ have disappeared!
-
It really costs next to nothing to be done even at a decent independent. If your not that confident it’s possibly not worth the risk for the sake of a couple of hour’s labour unless you just want to do it yourself.
-
I was recommended clear silicon grease when I done mine as it was also ok if a little transferred onto any rubber components, but not sure if this was correct
-
I registered mine at Porsche Exeter about a year ago. Only received a black box with the register card in so far. Didn’t realise you had to go in and pick up the plates etc.
Will ask when I pick up my 987 shifter.

Have you considered breaking it for parts due to the mileage ?

Tried that last year; finding a good one is tricky by now, and I don’t want to be in the same position in another 12m.
With Dansk being the tier 1 OEM, this should be the same as just buying new from Porsche - but at a slightly lower price point.
Oh I see, will be interesting to share your thoughts on what you fit after you have lived with it for a while 👍
Im guessing at some point we will all be in the same situation 😳
Good luck 🤞and hope you fit what you are wanting to accomplish 👍

This is the 3rd time this has happened to me in 10 years 🤬
Eaten the filter and foam cover!
Below is a temp fix that 100% stops water dropping into the filter housing.
Before I go and replace again any tips on stopping this?
One thing I have learnt is to always turn off the heating to close the vent to try stop the little fella coming into the ducting.
The car is kept inside in winter storage
