Went to the supermarket to pick up the shopping, as I drove out the carpark l overheard a bloke in his 60's say to his wife "When I win the lottery I am going to buy a car like that". Didn't like to point out his car was probably worth at least twice what mine cost !! Amazing that you can still get that response on a 23 year old vehicle.

Maybe he was referring to getting 3 numbers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Drilled or grooved discs don't help with cooling directly.

Stand corrected ! Always thought the holes helped dissipate heat! You learn something everyday on here 👍

  4. I’m pretty sure you can get drilled or grooved discs for the 2.5/2.7 in standard size too, if that’s what you are after to help with cooling

Got the new discs today and fitted them. Picture below shows the old (handed) and new (not handed) drilled holes patterns.

I wonder if the new design is less prone for those small cracks that can appear between the holes?

  6. For me if the 986 was the first generation totally original I would have gone for that as a weekend car (but it isn’t and not what you are after if looking for a daily).

So for me it has to be the 987. Superior build quality, more power and refined for an everyday car.

    Guys,

Odd question this. I met a guy the other day who claimed to have a 4x4 986 Boxster. I saw it, but didn't look in detail; it looked from the outside like a perfectly ordinary 986. Stupidly I didn't note down the registration number so can't check the details.

His story was that Audi made some development cars with a 4x4 system in it and this was one of them. I was sceptical but wasn't going to disagree with him to his face. FWIW he seemed to have a good story about a lot of things but that's by the by.

Hence this post. Did Porsche ever make 4x4 986's or was I having my leg pulled (as I slightly suspect)? If so then does anyone have any more details?

It’s probably just because the owner didn’t know the front from the back, it’s well known people get confused looking from the side view 🤣

  8. At the end of the day however you look at it the 986/996 were designed and built on a shoe string to meet production needs and save a rapidly failing company. It clearly shows in the build quality and materials used. By the time the 987 was produced there was a lot more money to spend on refining what was already the start of a great car and get back on track to what Porsche owners really want.
For many those poor shut lines, build quality matched with cheap materials make the 986 raw and special, alongside its basic/analog technology.
That’s why I bought one, plus there cheap🤣

The only thing I actually dislike about the 987 is the door handles.
One thing to hold onto as a 986 owner is there unlikely to ever produce another Porsche in the future with the fried egg headlights!

Yep, I am.  I really enjoyed his most recent video.  Brave man taking a multi-tool to his car!

Yes! I think I would still do it the other way if it ever needed doing.
    looking forward to seeing more.
