Was tempted to call 'Snake Oil or offer up some Magic Beans for sale but that does look worth a shout.
My only concern, performance aside, is as always you are making a surface as smooth as possible and expecting coatings to adhere to it. Unless it has etching abilities which is another concern.
Good find.
I was advised after polishing to rub over the headlights with a superfine grade synthetic wool pad beforehand.
It made the lense cloudy again but keyed the surface. Once sprayed it went totally translucent again.

This looks like a good investment for afterwards.
This is what I have used.
Not sure how it’s going to last yet but early signs so far as the product goes is disappointing. For some reason even thou I followed the exact instructions and even called their technical team beforehand the lenses after a long wet spell go milky. This does go when the weather warms up again.( Comments from their technical department is that it’s while the clearcoat is curing, but it has been months now). Also the clearcoat will also feel extremely rough after a wet spell too, this is does seem to resolve itself after warmed up again.Only time will tell I guess but 🤞

Released the BBS bolts off my Sport Designs and polished 10 of the titanium bolts on the lathe, 70 to go!
Thinking I will do something pretty special with these but not sure yet.

Wire brushed and rust treated wheel nuts followed by 3 coats of hammerite smooth silver ready for new wheels.

I wasted money on a few different types of bulbs but ultimately found for me the best thing was to restore the headlights themselves. I was amazed at the difference.

Both look great - have (until recently) had both and preferred the Sport Design on my own, silver, 986.
Think the car’s body colour can influence which wheel design looks better on a given car.
What colour 986 are they going on?
Arctic Silver.
Possibly have the option to change from my Sport Designs to the Turbos instead of refurbing but not sure if I should -

@Boxsum, next time, click on the 'poll' tag at the top and you can do it properly yourself.
Don’t quite understand the ‘pun’ but Thankyou 👍

Which 18” wheel design do people prefer on a 986 out of these 2?

Thankyou👍
For me it would be done at a local bodyshop at the same time as the bumper but would like it to be correct so Thankyou so much for the code 👍 -
I also went to a Porsche meet at the weekend and hid in the car park. On walking around and talking to the car owners I still feel there is some Porsche snobbery in regards to the 986, I’ve only ever been to 3 events and found this at them all, so this could be why. I would love to go to a 986 only event thou.

Anyone know the exact paint code for the titanium front grills. For some reason mine have just turned to mush and thought I may get them done with the front bumper over the winter period.
Thankyou

175,262 996 derivatives vs 164,874 986 derivatives.
Figures from Porsche.
Wow! I thought there would be a lot less 996! I guess it’s a 911 thing.
Only time will tell I guess with the original boxster -
I’ve always thought there are too many boxsters produced to ever really become an “investment”
996’s seem to be going upwards thou, anyone know the production sales figures on them in comparison to a 986? If they are similar there maybe a glimmer of hope 🤞

I fitted the PS2 N3’s on mine as soon as I bought it and it transformed the car. When I bought my car thou the person selling it had just put on budget tyres to get it through the mot to sell it so don’t really have anything to compare them too.

On the south coast just behind the Downs we are a little sheltered from the worst of the storms. Saying that it was still pretty blowy last night.
I'm pleased to say that this morning it doesn't look phased, it's rock solid.
Lol, it doesn't use guide ropes, although I think I might whack a few more ground anchors in for peace of mind.
That’s great news that it weathered the storm 👍

@Daboy3000How is the Clarke’s tent holding up in the gales?
Give it a few minutes he’s still hanging onto the guide ropes ☺️

Was going to diamond cut but advice is that it may not last, so ended up having a high finished painted silver rim with a light anthracite centre, will take some pics in the light and post them up.

Just had mine done for £125 per wheel plus vat so £600, they split the wheel and have done them two tone, the result is awesome and well worth the result, mine are genuine gt wheels on my 996.
I would say money well spent and great value, man maths or not.
Makes total sense on a 996, prices are soaring!
Diamond cut or painted rim ? -

I think it's excellent and it's good to see people putting the effort in to rebuild these cars....surely not everything is about money🙂
No, but common sense has to play a part at some point!
Im spending around £600 to have my 18” sport designs refurbished but appreciate that even this doesn’t make financial sense👍 -

I was speaking to the classic Porsche guys on the stand that where involved in the resto, that build time does not include engine or gearbox work, that’s next 🤔

It does look nice but it just looks like a clean Boxster on a set of split rims.
247 hours plus materials bit of a waste of time and money on a 986 !

PS2 n3 from what I had fitted before transformed the car. Just trying the F1’s now but not had them long. Think any quality tyre is going to be more than capable unless your trying to find those last few seconds on the track
