Ive replied in your other thread. May not be much help though ?
-
Ive never done the job, but I remember @TROOPER88 saying something like, he cuts the old pipe off rather than waste time trying to take it off complete which makes the job a lot easier / quicker.
Does that make any sense whatosever ?

Finished doing a couple of jobs today that I started a few days ago.
First one was the dreaded repair of the indicator stalk, which wouldnt stay on when turning left.
This job would be quite easy if you happen to be born with five or six very small hands, which I wasnt, so its a bit of a faff.
I tried glueing the little tang back in place with Tiger seal , but to my surprise it didnt hold it.
Then tried epoxy putty and that didnt work either.
Then tried melting a hot glue stick around it and that did the job. Just a matter of reassembling the innards of the switch after that ! It took several attempts, but I got there in the end.
Next up was the phantom horn blowing issue. I decided to push some Tiger seal (which is like liquid rubber) in around where the bushes were coming apart, and also small O rings on either side.
Then reassembled it all back onto the car, and very happy to have indicators working perfectly, and horn working normally.
One small problem was that although I thought I had followed correct procedure, the airbag light came on.
A couple of minutes with the icarsoft cleared the code and put the light out, so all sorted now.
Over the weekend Im hoping to get the drivers doorcard off and blast some contact cleaner around the doorhandle microswitch to see if it will cure the window drop problem.
If it doesnt, then a new switch will be needed I imagine.
I rubbed down and painted the front wheels from the set I acquired recently. Im back at work tomorrow for five nights, so will take the rears with me and do the same to them while Im there.
Should have the wheels on the car early next week, and then put the Sport design wheels currently fitted, up for sale.

Airbag, steering wheel, and column switches removed.
Hopefully tomorrow I will manage diy repairs on the usual indicator switch and random horn problems, then put it all back together.
Watch this space. It might end in tears. 😁
Next job will be to remove drivers door card and spray contact cleaner into doorhandle microswitch and hope it cures the window drop problem.

Got exactly the same problem here. On the way to work last week car in front stopped. I braked, and then the horn blasted long and loud. Driver in front giving me the pig wave and shouting obscenities at this arrogant moron in the Porsche.
Cant remember when I have been so embarrassed.
I actually had the problem last year and fitted some new O rings which cured it. Im guessing I need to do the job again, with thicker O rings.

Ordered a pack of 10, same as above from ebay. Thanks everyone.

I removed the plastic undertray from my 986 quite a while ago. Cant even remember why now.
Went to refit it yesterday but not only can I not find the four retaining nuts, I cant even remember what type they are.
The thread they screw onto is very coarse which made me think they would be plastic nylon nuts, but from a video I just watched on Youtube, it looked like they may be metal ?
Any knowledge of whats needed much appreciated, thanks.

Alls well that ends well. Sold the bumper to a guy in Liverpool. Got my money back apart from the cost of a roll of bubble wrap, and the two and a half hours I spent wrapping it in the bubble wrap and lots of thick strong cardboard.

Fitted a new nearside radiator, as the old one had started leaking. Got to refit all the fiddly bits now, but have run out of energy for today.
-
Could be a nice little earner for someone with a 3D printer reproducing the plastic part which breaks.
I have the same problem on my car, but Im nit going to spend hundreds fixing it. For the amount of miles the car does, I will live with it.

One small bit of progress with this. The seller has ignored my requests to tell me what the paint code is, but I noticed he has just listed the bonnet he has, which we spoke about at the time, which came from the same car and was painted at the same time.
I sent him an anonymous message enquiring about the bonnet, and asking which variation of Porsche silver.
He replied that it is LM7Z GT Silver, which makes sense, as someone on this thread mentioned GT silver is a bit darker than Arctic silver.
Might be a bit easier to shift it now.

Just listed on ebay and all the pics are upside down for some reason.
Think Im going to go to bed, stay there until next week, and hope life gets better then. 🤪
-
Yep. Just listed it on Gumtree. Will put an ad in the For Sale section here, with a link to the Gumtree ad, if thats allowed ?
-
Could also be Polar Silver apparently ?
Porsche Boxster 986 (1997 - 2004) – Paint Colors (Exterior & Interior) (stuttcars.com)
-
Thanks. I suppose I could start with an ad in the for sale section here. Then the usual other sites.
Not being certain about the colour isnt going to help though, but I have to try.
-
Yep, that has certainly been established now................unfortunately.
"What colour is this bumper" would now be a more accurate title.
-
So GT silver is another possibility then by the sound of it.
-
Just found the bumper I bought is actually listed on ebay. I wish I had noticed and bought it from there instead of FB Marketplace.
I might have had some chance of a comeback, as its described as 2000 - 2004.
Porsche Boxster 2000-2004 Front Bumper £250 ONO | eBay
I sent him a message asking if he could supply the paint code, but no response yet, and I dont really expect to get one.
He is a paint sprayer by trade (and has done a nice job on the bumper) so should be able to provide the info if he could be bothered.
Dont know if there are any other silver colours (particularly 03/04 facelift) ?
Thanks for all the help and suggestions so far. I fell like an idiot over this, but got to try and rectify it financially.
-
I really must try and learn to post pics properly. I blame old age.
-
Looks like I need to sell this on, and hopefully get my money back. Not being completely sure of the colour doesnt help though.
Seal grey, or possibly Meridian Silver ?
Probably hard to be definite from photos but there is the old Arctic silver one to compare it with.

Doubtful, but thanks. Im £180 out of pocket at the moment. Really cant afford that right now.
-
It gets worse. Its silver but darker than the arctic silver of my car. Will probably have to try and sell it on and start again.
Should have taken something from my car with me to compare, but got excited about it being for sale locally at what seemed like a reasonable price.

Just realised what you mean about the black air duct pods. May well need to source them as well then. Wish I hadnt jumped in and bought the damn thing now.
I might grow out of impulsiveness one day.
-
Just had a look at 04 cars on ebay and I see what you mean now. It really does need the slats. Will contact the seller and see if he still has them first.
Hopefully the side repeaters are the same on both too.
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Excellent news. Glad you got it sorted.
