I investigated why my hood had snapped the o/s ball off the little slider thing yesterday. It was snapped when I got the car but I fitted another one which has gone pop within a couple of months.
I fitted another one and was watching the hood come up while sat face backwards in the drivers seat.
Something caught my eye. It was a slide with the ball snapped off, tight up against the drivers end of the rail.
So someone had fitted a new one at some point without removing the old one. I would guess this was putting a lot of stress on the new one when the hood was fully closed and causing them to snap.
Took it apart again, removed the old one then reassembled everything. Seems to be working fine now.
Then, in slight desperation I moulded some liquid metal putty around the joint in the PAS pipe where there is a slight weep of fluid.
I will be surprised if it seals it, but if it did it would save me removing the steering rack to get a new joint made in the pipe.
Will find out tomorrow if it worked, but Im not holding out much hope.

Got my ‘03 2.7 MOT’d this afternoon, with a new set of Goodyear Asymmetric 5. The full set (18”) set me back £395 fitted, but it really does feel so much better. The previous PS2s were well past their best. Oil and filter ready for the weekend and then hopefully some better weather to enjoy a bit of use.
That sounds a great price for those tyres. Might have take a wee drive over to Norn Irn when I need a new set. 😀

If you do your own spanner work you should be able to run one without breaking the bank - with a bit of luck.
If you dont, you may want to start off with a really healthy bank account.

My daughter who is a pretty severe Asthmatic and lives in central London, tells me that the worst place of all for poor air quality is the tube in busy hours.
Its so bad she walks to work, which takes 20 minutes, rather than stand in a carriage struggling for breath.
Little tin Khan doesnt seem interested in that though for some reason.

My 02 plate, 3.2 Omega is exempt. My 59 plate Clio 1.5 dci isnt, and nor is my Boxster, which is to be expected.
Assuming its still the same area as the congestion zone ? it wont affect me whichever one I use.
My daughter lives just off the right hand side of Commercial street, coming from Whitechapel direction, and the zone starts when you turn left off Commercial street, so right on the edge, but no quite inside the zone.

Spray a little carb cleaner(or similar) around areas where the leaks might occur, and if the revs rise, youve found your leak.

Having said all that, Ive just realised today is Thursday, not Friday, so I might get it sorted tomorrow. 😂

No, the pipe which goes through the o/s wheelarch to the rack.
Havent got around to it yet. Spent ages trying to get my Clio dci to stop leaking oil from every orifice, and finally succeeded a few days ago.
Then replaced a balljoint on the old Omega yesterday, which turned into a pig of a job which ran into today.
Was planning to get onto the PAS pipe on the Boxster today, but now promised the wife I will do a couple of jobs she wants doing, so it gets put back yet again.
Working over the weekend, so hopefully Monday. 🙄

Adjusted handbrake cables at the console end ready for MOT. Just need to sort the PAS pressure pipe now.
I think I will take it off (having now found out how to) and take it to a hydraulic hose outfit and ask them to do a permanent join where its previously been bodged.
Replacements seem very expensive.

Well Im at work for 12 hours, but still managed to clean the green mould off the soft top with Milton fluid.
Also checked the fluids, tyre pressures and cleaned all the glass with some vinegar infused glass cleaner I "borrowed" from the cleaners cupboard.

Got a pic of that please ? I need to do mine and would like to see the type / size of hinge and how it looks when its done.
Tia.

Washed it, then drove it to work. Some nice twistys, sun shining, Bob Seger blasting out from the speakers.
Life felt really good for that half hour, and made me very happy to have bought my first Porsche. 😎

As Ive mentioned previously my car came to me with ABS light on and speedo not working, but a new sensor included to fix the problem.
Gave up on trying to find the sensor near gearbox output for the speedo, and decided I would check resistance of rear ABS sensors as they look the same as the sensor supplied with the car.
They gave readings very close to the one from the new sensor so that didnt really help much.
I then remembered reading posts on the forum by the previous owner, that this problem occurred after the alternator fried itself.
Next thought was possibly ABS control unit had also fried itself. I then remembered a bit of advice from a long time ago "start with the basics". So I decided to check the fuses.
Lo and behold the ABS fuse was blown, so I replaced it and the ABS light went out. I expect the speedo will also work when the car goes on the road on the 1st April. 🙂
Also checked the tyre pressures which were 32psi all round. Let some air out of the fronts and put some more in the rears.

What tyres
in 986
I had a pair of ZV7,s put on the front of my Omega a few months ago and Im really happy with them.
I have read this thread with interest as I have 265/35/18 on the rear of my Boxster.
It has Jinyu tyres fitted all round and in my experience on other cars, they are an awful tyre, and are lethal in the wet.
I actually think 265 is overkill for a car with approx. 220 bhp although they do look really cool.
I would consider smaller tyre sizes when the time comes to change, although I would also consider going down to 17 inch rims as well, which of course means more spending.

Replaced - cabin fliter, air filter, oil filter and oil.
Next job was to locate the speed sensor but it started raining. Hoping it will dry up later and I can back on it.

Blue hood too? Wheels are GT3 lookalikes from a 996.
Didnt spot the blue hood. Mines black. Dont know what my wheels are from exactly, but will post up a pic sometime soon and hopefully someone will tell me.

Looks very similar to mine. Even the wheels are almost the same.

Cheers. Will do.

Last week I replaced the clip on the o/s roof arm to stop it popping off the spigot. Then noticed the square slider pad had snapped off in the runner so changed that too.
Then noticed the balljoint had snapped off the arm on the other side. Got one from Amazon for £15 and fitted it today.
Roof works perfectly now. 🙂
Inevitably, the foam drip tray now had a hole punched in it from where the arm was dangling loose minus its balljoint.
Dont know if its allowed a lot of water ingress into the cabin and fried the control unit under the seat.
Carpet feels dry, but thats no guarantee as far as I know
I stuck some strong tape made from fabric over the hole as a temporary repair, but one more thing added to the "To do" list.

Hope so. 👍

It smells a bit nasty inside mine as I think it hadnt been used much over the last year.
So I decided to drop the roof down to let some fresh air in there.
This was quite a moment for me, as Ive never owned a convertible before in all my 61 years. 😁

I am indeed happy she has had it. Having said that, she is on very strong medication to knock out her immune system, which I believe means the vaccine wont be as effective as it would normally be.
Im expecting a call sometime within the next few weeks, to have it too.
Good health to you and yours too, thanks.

I also insured mine with Aviva. £168 through a cashback site which should give £70 cashback, so £98 for the year. Cheapest car insurance Ive had a for a long time.
