I had the console out to remove the carpet recently so know the drill. I also plugged the switches in the wrong way round the first time.

Is the ashtray delete a part to be sourced from OPC ? I currently have the worst of both worlds. It hasnt been deleted but the ashtray is missing.

@ 1/2cwt. Doubt it, I have been driving it quiet a lot over the last week.
Maybe an insect flying around inside ? Or maybe someone was actually messing around with it.
Central locking doesnt work at the moment, so if someone opened the passenger door, it would have set the alarm off.

I have added this to my "to do" list when the car is off the road over the winter. Silver console will break up the completely black interior quite nicely I think.
-
At 2.45 a.m got out of bed because the alarm had gone off. No idea why but the wife was seriously p*ssed off, and the neighbours probably even more so.
Might find out this morning !

Will do. Cheers.

Thanks. 👍
The car isnt an immaculate example, but I knew that when I bought it for a very low price. It drives very well, but has a bit of a list of minor issues that I am working through.
Im not overly bothered about the remote c/l not working, but more concerned about being able to actually lock the car and to have the alarm working.
I work for a a manufacturer of electronic devices (chips), and although I have no real knowledge myself, I work with a lot of people who do.
I will remove the door lock modules and take them into work, as a first port of call and they may be able to inspect them and possibly even repair them for me.
I have had new micro switches fitted into door lock motors and keyfobs repairedfor other makes, in the past at work, so may be lucky.
Otherwise, will go down the conventional / official route of solving the issues.

Ive only owned my car for a few months. When I first had it the central locking was a bit hit & miss. Sometimes worked ok, other times needed several turns of the key before it would work (the remote c/l has never worked), but always accompanied by a loud "squawk" when it did work.
More recently it has stopped working altogether.
A couple of weeks ago I removed the carpet to dry it out after the drivers side got very wet. While I was in there I unplugged the control module under the passenger seat and gave it to one of the electronic test engineers at work to take a look at.
He said he could see that someone had done some work on it before, but visually it all looked ok and no signs it had suffered from water ingress.
Since plugging it back into the car not only does the C/L not work as before, but I now get the two beeps from the alarm horn when locking / unlocking the car.
Is it simply a choice of living with it, or replacing with a known good unit for £xxx ?
If replacing it I assume I would need to have the replacement coded to my car ?
Tia for info / advice.

Set a weekend aside, two weetabix for breakfast, get your spanners out and get stuck in.
Its only nuts / bolts and block connectors. Not brain surgery. 👍

Due to my car missing the drivers side rain deflector / hinge cover when I got it, I fitted one a bought from ebay a couple of weeks ago.
This was sadly too late to stop the drivers side of the carpet from getting a good soaking.
So,on Wednesday I bit the bullet and took the carpet out. As anyone who has done can testify, this involves a fair bit of dismantling of the interior.
Yesterday the carpet was finally dry, so I began putting it all back together. Gave everything a good clean before refitting and almost got it finished today.
Just the seats to go back in, but I want to clean and treat the leather tomorrow, before refitting them.
Then back on the road, hopefully with no more leaks.

You can say that again. 🤪

Im not a fan of ultra low mileage cars myself. If the spend most of their lives sat doing nothing it doesnt do them any good at all.
Everything from suspension bushes, brake calipers to engine and transmission seals can suffer from sit around not being used.
They certainly do command a premium when they come up for sale though, despite the fact that they may need as much work to put them right as a high mileage car.

Disconnect the other end of the lines, then remove the rack with them attached. Might have a better chance of getting them out once off the car, rather than with the restricted access while its all on the car ?
-
In this youtube video of a guy replacing a steering rack, it seems he had to get a bit brutal, using the wheel brace as a hook to separate the pipes from the rack as they were stuck in place.
I wouldnt start chopping through the pipes though, as they are pretty expensive to replace..
from 7.15 to 8.30.

I need to remove the pressure pipe from mine sometime soon as it is leaking, so will be interested to know how you get on.

My old Mum always used to say "theres no pockets in shrouds".

Took my bargain Boxster for an MOT, which it passed with a few advisories.
Happy days. 😎

A mile and half from me. I thought they only did Italian stuff. Happy to be have been proved wrong. 👍

Start with the basics. Is the wiring plugged in ? Is the appropriate fuse in place and in one piece.
When I got my car few months ago it had a new speed sensor supplied because the speedo didnt work and the ABS light was on.
The fault was actually a blown fuse.

Is it feasible to dye the roof black ?

Circumcis... sorry, desnorkled it, topped up PAS fluid, and replaced the woodscrews which were in the air intake ducts with self tappers !
Too hot for anything else now.
-
Ive managed to stop the slight weep from the PAS pressure pipe using Tiger seal. Doubt it will be a permanent repair, but should see it through the MOT.
Then at some point I can get the pipe off the car and sort it properly.
Then found a pool of water behind the drivers seat. Bugger !
Probably caused by the missing rain deflector on that side of the hood.
I bought a pattern one from Design 911, but no way can I make it fit properly, so will probably source a used genuine one.

Yep, and even more so when welding.

When airbags are involved I always disconnect the battery, then go and have a cup of tea for half an hour before doing anything, just to be on the safe side.

I was reading good things about Essoo 99 ron on another forum a few days ago. I was going to fill my 986 up with it yesterday, but baulked at the 157p per litre.
So stuck to the cheap stuff until prices drop down a bit.
