gonna give it a quick detail this afternoon and then off to caffeine and machine this evening 😎

pics please! thats the exact 911 i would have if i could, see if i can be tempted...
-
i can't see anything out the ordinary on any of pad wear, increased dust or one wheel getting hotter than the others, so... and as i say, brakes work fine at the moment, so not gonna worry about it at the moment!
-
well, garage havent found anything of note, so... and the code didn't even come up on the way over to the garage, so... think we're good for a send on monday!
-
well, the car seems to think it has a problem too... intermittently flashing up a warning saying 'service brake function below threshold' or something...
-
Anyone had an MOT advisory for 'Service brake requirements only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair (1.2.1 (c))'
A look up of the mot advisory code suggests i have '1.2. Service brake performance and efficiency, performance - A brake on any wheel grabbing severely'
from what i can see, is i have plenty of pad material left, and all brake lines and fluid was renewed recently. car also has plenty strong enough brakes, and brakes in a straight line.
about to take it to my local indy for a once over, but... not really sure what causes brakes to be grabbing on one wheel more than the others... anyone able to shed any light?

most tyres need a good 200 miles or so to be working optimally. take it easy the first few days.

another vote for Matt at Spires Tuning, think the rate for a standard alignment is £160. will need to make a visit after i get lowering springs fitted in a couple of months...

taking inspiration from Road and Race, ordered some fresh clean number plates.
-
Fitted spacers, 7mm front 15mm rear. Pushed the front strut tops all the way in while I was there as well.
Lowering springs and another alignment next month.

already sold - did you buy them?
wasnt me! but was tempted, was a bit of a steal for 10" rear porsche wheels!
-
quick request from me - please can someone buy these wheels, so i can't! 😂
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386907504192
no affiliation or anything, but i'm really thinking these would go nicely on a 987.1, with a 255/35 front tyre and a 285/35 rear tyre... would be great for trackdays...
but i must stop spending money, already planning spacers and lowering springs, i don't need more stuff!

I've just bought the ebay ones... should fit this week. No lockers though, just 20 plain bolts for me!
-
Took off a front brake heat shield that was rattling around. Other three seem solid enough though. While I was there, noticed two of the wheelbolts had particularly crusty collars, so swapped them with some spares I had from my 986.
Also topped up the coolant and power steering fluid, and checked the brake pad material too. Ready for Snetterton on Wednesday! 👌

But... considerably rustier. But given its properly tucked up in the bumper, that didnt really concern me... tailpipes still nice and shiny. Fitment was a small worry, but given the state it was in it had clearly been fitted before.

I quite like 'good things come to those who wait' mantra...
I knew I wanted an exhaust for my 987, but didn't want to pay £800 for a decent ish new one...kept scouring FB marketplace and ebay, and eventually a secondhand toyosports came up for £150. Snapped it up, and got it installed, and it's awesome. No drone at low rpm, howls like a banshee under WOT. and, the money saved against new has paid for three trackdays.
Picked up a secondhand set of toyo r888r tyres for £200 (as opposed to the £900 or so for a new set) so we're quids in there too.
Don't buy cheap, buy smart!

Watching with interest, you've bought a very similar car to mine, a silver 987.1.
All the best and might well meet up with you on a trackday - there's always the BoXa.net trackday at Donington on 13th May if you're interested...
-
reminds me of a jimmy carr joke about rachel riley... if you know, you know...
-
well, £150 in petrol could get me from leamington to aberystwyth and back... not a bad way of spending a day i guess...
£150 could pay for my next 15 poker nights... bet my dad would be glad to hear he's funding my gambling habits 😆
-
Well, I'm already taking the Wednesday off to go to Snetterton...
Besides, they probably wouldn't want my 987S... got non standard tyres, brakes and exhaust on now, they'd probably want a more standard example...
-
Hmm could buy a lot of tasty beers... trackday is a good shout too,a day at Thruxton is only a little more, and I've never been there...
-
interesting, i have a 987S, and i'm warwickshire based... and lets be honest, Vicki Butler-Henderson featured heavily in my thoughts when i was a bit younger...
but alas, i should probably be working that monday...
-
i got a round integer older on sunday, and my dad transferred me 150 smackeroonies! now that i'm flush with cash, what would anyone suggest i spend it on?
£150 not quite enough for a decent hooker, and i only do decaf coke, so they're out, but always keen for any other suggestions, sensible or otherwise... 🤔

Yeah a quick comparison suggests I can insure my 987S for £280, not the £540 the renewal suggests. Which is pretty decent if you ask me!
woohoo for being old enough for aviva insurance! boxster insured, with protected NCB for just £225. pretty sure thats the cheapest i've ever paid to insure a car.

Grabbing brakes?
in 987
Posted
well, if the brakes were a little questionable before, they're shot to pieces now! 😅 new, upgraded rear pads ordered, will see if that fixes the light coming on (it probably will)
front pads are expensive track pads and still have one more trackday in them i reckon and that isnt till august, so will drop fresh fronts in after that.
