  1. its loud on cold start, certainly. but after a few seconds it does quieten down. a bit. theres still no denying you've got an antisocial exhaust on! 😄

indeed i'll go so far as to say it sounds pretty terrible below 3000rpm. however, above that, it sounds great, so guess where my revs are whenever i drive it...

my car was a lot louder when there i had a bad exhaust gasket. that was hilariously loud...

  2. sports drinking bottle of warm water if the front washer jets are frozen is a good idea! couldve done with that on the way in this morning... slowly salting windscreen, but i knew if i tried to wash it the washers would be frozen, so i'd just smear salt over the windscreen.

boxsters aren't really designed for this weather... roll on the spring i say!

  3. i'm fine without heated seats. but again - if your boxster is an all weather daily driver, your needs will be somewhat different to those who only use it nice days at the weekends.

i also run a silly loud exhaust that would be terrible as a daily driver, but works great for the occasional summers day drive or trackday!

  4. mine has it but it doesn't work. doesn't really bother me, if its between 15-30 degrees i'll have the roof down, if its over 30 degrees i'll take my other car that does have working a/c.

technical question regarding a/c... does a/c still dehumidify the air, even if it doesn't cool the air very well?

  5. i'm basically in a porsche because i needed a second fun car, and i wanted to try something mid engined, with a flat 6, and with a porsche badge on the front lol. so... had a be a cheap boxster! found a nice low miles, but cat N 986S for £6k, thought i'd give it a whirl, see if i liked it.

turns out i like the idea, but not the specific car. hence why i'll be swapping to a 987 soon.

have pretty much always had sports cars of some description - been through an NB MX5, Nissan 300ZX, Nissan 350Z and a BMW Z4. after the boxster i really want to get into an Audi R8, YOLO and all that. I lost my mum when i was 30, and someone at work in her late 20s was literally hit by a bus and died. then someone else at work last year had a heart attack and died, he was mid forties... Life is short, if you want something and have the means to do it, then get it done.

  6. yeah, its not particularly groundbreaking stuff, really. would be interesting to know what they've done to the engine to get 300bhp though.

hope they're not planning on charging too much for one... as Vin Diesel once said, 'Not a bad way to spend ten thousand dollars'

  7. my work had 2 911 owners - one was a very early 996 C2 with aero kit, and the other a slightly later 996 C4S. both were late 20s, early 30s. another guy is looking at picking up a 997 C4, pretty sure he is about 27.

i think the only thing that would make me want to swap my 986 boxster for one would be the bigger engines available in the 911. the C4S has about 350bhp, which would be very useful. but obviously the whole car is exactly the same from the b pillar forward.

  8. stubbornly sticking with a rear engined layout despite everyone else putting the engine in the middle.

the most telling thing is for the 911 RSR cars they've shifted the engine forward in the chassis so it handles better... so... the top tier porsche GT racecar is now essentially a cayman.

  9. i dunno, a 911 hasn't ever been top of my list - can't get over the 'engine in the wrong place' issue... but then again, porsche has never made the ideal car - a boxster GT3. imagine, the 3.8 litre or 4.0 litre mezger flat 6, correctly placed in the middle of the car...

if i did ever find myself in a 911 it'll likely be a daily. and if its a daily, it'll likely be an auto. the weekend car will remain a manual, with the engine in the middle.

  10. its a weird one from me... while i'd love a 987, i can't ever see myself in a 981. electric steering i could live with (though would prefer hydraulic - the steering on my 986 is great) but I don't like the design language of a 981 particularly, and would never consider a 4 cylinder boxster. and i dont say 'never' very often!

  11. i started in a 986 two years ago, but even then the car i really wanted was a 987. planning on swapping over in the spring. i'm not expecting the driving experience to be hugely different, but there are a myriad of other little things (interior much more modern, gearchange, seats, exterior looks, a touch more power, bigger wheels) that i think will be really beneficial.

  12. silly question, but hows the 225 on a standard front? was considering a 225 front track tyre, but from looking at 225 on a 7" rim, half the things i looked at suggested it was ok, while the other half suggested it was too wide. in the end i played it safe and went with a 215/45/17...

  13. not sure thats that useful... any review over 3 years old will very likely have a newer version of the tyre released. MPS2s and GY assy2s might have been great in their day, but we're on MPS5 now and GY assy6s. if you want to pick a good tyre, you want to pick from the best tyres currently available, for which you need these reviews...

the best road tyres currently available (as of December 2022) are likely the Michelin PS5, GY assy6 or Conti premium contact 6.

the best ultra high performance road and track tyres are likely Michelin PS4S, GY F1 supersport, or Conti Sport contact 7. just depends on if you can get them in your sizes.
