  1. i never had my 986 seats all the way back (i'm 6' exactly, but apparently short legs), but they 986 seats are definitely a lot higher than the 987 seats, and the steering wheel being able to move up in the 987 has meant i'm massively more comfortable in my 987 than i was in my 986.

  2. track tyres are on! car looks a little weird with such a low profile tyre on the rear (arch gap is massive) but hey ho. i didnt buy it just to look pretty, its all about how it handles on track.

kept the old rear tyres to put back on when i'm done larking around, for three reasons... they're michelin pilot sports, dated 2022, and still have about 6mm of tread. and they're in an unusual porsche size, so cost a fortune new.

binned the fronts, as they were 2017 - will buy new ones when required.

  3. would the standard 986 or 987 seats work with a harness? i always thought that the shoulder straps had to pass through the seat, but with the 986 or 987 seats, they'd kinda just... slide off the sides? or does that not really matter? i note that those lotus elise seats do not have holes for shoulder straps to pass through?

  4. pretty sure its linked to inflation, which has been quite high of late. but yes, i'd pay it now before the rates go up again in april...

  5. 2017 cars are in the sweet spot for tax right now - new enough to be in the flat £180 a year tax system, but old enough to be outside of the additional 5 years of luxury car tax.

usefully, thanks to the new flat rate starting from 2017, but the luxury car tax being a rolling 5 years from new, more and more interesting cars will fall into the flat £180 a year tax rate.

  6. The seats in a 986 sit considerably higher, especially the full electric ones. My mate who owns a lotus elise likened them to sofas.

I definitely wanted lower 987 seats, but the cost of 987 seats and the hassle of fitting, well... I just bought the whole car instead, got the seats included!

Now the seats are too low lol... have actually raised them up a tad from fully slammed.

  7. Well, I had my 986 for 2 years... initially bought it because I wanted to try out mid engined, flat 6 porsches! But really I think the 987 was always the one i really wanted, so after a successful trial period I swapped over.

The 987 also has some useful upgrades over a 986, important ones for me were better interior, lower seats, better looking exterior and wider standard wheels.

Though don't think the 987 is a forever car either, probably another 2 years then funds might allow either a 997 C2S or maybe even an R8 V8.

  8. i managed to do an in and out with a CAT N car... bought 70,000 mile CAT N 986 S for £6k 3 years ago, had it two years and put 5,000 miles on it, and then sold it on for £5k. Definitely a harder sell than it would have been otherwise, it was a great car in a rare colour but really not much interest. One guy came and had a look, went so far as to get a magnet out to see which bits were filler, but decided the car wasn't for him.

in the end it eventually sold to someone who i honestly don't think cared that it was a CAT N, and just saw a cheap car for some summer fun. they since sold it on themselves about 5 months later.

i dont think i'd buy a CAT N car again, i think it seriously limits your ability to sell it on. my current car is a clean 987S - slightly high miles, but i have the service history to show its been well looked after.

  9. MOT passed which is good. new exhaust is on, louder than stock but not excessively so. though that was with the roof up, so will see how it sounds with the roof down.

new rear lower arms fitted and a geometry that isnt trying to chuck me off the road now! and, now that car the has a clean bill of health, time to book some trackdays 👌

I am really hoping that from this post, we get at least 1 987 owner who has a fiddle on the back of their steering wheel and discovers they have the magic hand warming button that they did not know they had

i was going to have a fiddle this morning but i forgot! would have been very useful today. will check when i get the car back on friday, fingers crossed...

  11. ah so thats what happens... yeah my Black Circles fitting slot was changed/redirected 3 times, i got irked off and cancelled and just bought some tyres direct from the garage. fair play i won't bother using them again.

  12. blackcircles faffed me about with fitting some Kumhos... not sure i'll use them again, will try and get a garage to price match them though, they're usually cheapest. eventually went for some falkens direct.

other option is buying tyres separately, then get a garage to just fit them.
