I looked at Just tyres, for my size 265/35/20 NO Porsche  OEm they were £323 fitted. I looked at Costco andd they are 'only' £270 fitted. I was told to wait until May 15th and they are likely to be£50 off. On that basis I joined Costco for £22. I'll still be quids in when i purchase.

The costco warehouse website will let you see the prices for your size without joining.

Don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but a couple of years ago I did the same I joined Costco to be able to buy Michelins for my Boxster only to find that the ‘Individual  membership’ that I bought didn’t allow me to buy tyres you had to buy a more expensive membership to allow car tyre purchases. So maybe you should check if your membership allows you to buy the tyres.

  2. IMG-2945.jpgOver at Porsche Glasgow on Friday to book my Boxster in to get cruise control retrofitted. Planning on doing lots of road trips to Europe so I want the CC for relaxed driving on the motorways. Booked in for the middle of May then my Boxster will be the exact spec I was looking for when Boxster shopping.

Forgot to mention that RPM had previously removed the one way valves on the rear drain holes so that's one thing I don't have to worry about.  Just need to find out where the fronts are.

There are no front drains on the 981 so one less thing to worry about.

Recently found myself in a position to move on from my 987 to a 981 much sooner than expected. Think my search began around similar time to @Dubdubz. Have certainly been watching all his posts and questions in recent weeks, desperately hoping we weren't going to be unknowlingly competing for the same cars!

Did alot of reading up on here and elsewhere to supplement existing knowledge. And started scouring AT, Ebay, Car Gurus etc etc etc to the point where my head was spinning! In the end decided my requirements/options would be naturally somewhat limited by various factors e.g.

    - modest budget (especially as far as SWMBO is concerned!)

    - 2.7 likely plenty for me, especially given 25bhp above my 987

    - more bells and whistles = potential for more to go wrong, e.g. PASM, PDM

    - some things e.g. Chrono would be nice to have not need to have.

Definitely didn't want Black (unless maybe with a Red roof), Sapphire and probably not Silver. Agate might have been OK  BUT the 987 was DK Grey and I fancied a change. Red would be OK but, surprisingly, I really like 981's in White. Then, I really am not a big fan of Black roofs (987 was Stone Grey) so we're there other possibilities?

I thought I would stay manual but I reckon more than 90% of the 981's on the market are PDK which I was open to trying.

Decided the must have options were heated seats (which probably 99% of 981's evidently have) and I didn't get on the 987 despite being on the wishlist, rear parking sensors, 20 inch wheels, pref Carrera S and Sports steering wheel(though I actually quite like the standard m/f wheel). Painted roll over hoops would be really nice. Front parking sensors, DAB, climate control, extended leather, cruise, DAB and auto dimming mirror would be nice but not a deal, breaker.

Almost the first two cars which really caught my eye were virtually identical, White with Red roof and 20 inch Carrera S wheels and both at the same specialist dealer, RPM Specialist Cars in Knaresborough The options on each were very slightly different but each fitted with my criteria. Of the two, the slightly more expensive 2014 model with Silver wheels was my favourite but as soon as the weather bucked up a couple of weeks back it was sold. Spent about another 2 week scouring the ads until last week when I phoned to enquire about the second car. Dealer was great, answered questions, sent me videos and copies of recent invoices for work done. They knew the car as it was locally owned and serviced by them. Most recent owner had bought it twice having regretted selling the first time!  I couldn't get to see it till yesterday but they agreed to hold it for a £500 deposit which I figured was pretty safe as they are specialists, have virtually 100% 5 star reviews (including on here) and seemed very genuine. And anyway I was smitten.

So yesterday I made the almost 15 hour round trip to Yorkshire, spending 3 hours talking, checking the car and test driving before agreeing to buy.  It's not perfect (it's just over 10 years old!) but they do a 150 point check, clean MOT (yesterday pm despite it having already been MOT'd in January), full detail and machine polish (saw and talked to their detailer who was at work on a Cayman). There was some lifting of lacquer on the headlights (no crazing) so they will be sanded and recleared. The side vents (body coloured) are heavily chipped and will  be repeainted, auto rain sensing wipers will be coded (if they can) and they'll  do a full alignment.

And here she is in all her glory (well I think so anyway!). And yes, in time honoured fashion I have bought the first car I saw!

    NhwZ8eg.jpeg

    Dr2BIus.jpeg

    gDv2Djf.jpeg

    UwiOuB4.jpeg

    Options, all factory:

Roll over hoops, side vents, rear undervalance and front grill strikes in body colour

    Sports tailpipes (Black)

Carrera S wheels with spokes painted Black

    Parking sensors front and rear

    Seat belts in Guards Red

    PDK

    Cruise

    Heated seats

    Manual aircon

    Sports seats plus

PCM 3 Nav with Bluetooth and DAB

Head rests embossed with Porsche crest

Didn't get the full leather but have to say the pebbled vinyl dash , door cards etc is a big improvement on the 987. All round the cabin ambience is a big step up from the 987. And the sports seats are really comfy.

Pick up is Friday next week and I won't begrudge the long drive home! :bana:

@deanmr2see what I mean about the colour scheme?!

Yeah ‘ playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order’ I get what you mean 😂😂

looks like a lovely car and RPM are a good dealer with a decent reputation

I'm just back from a trip around Lake Garda - pre season. Speed limits are 50kph all around the lake and the one good road in the region, the Strada della Forra, was closed due to a landslide and didn't look to be opening any time soon.

Apart from that, it was a great place to visit. We stayed at Malchesine, then Riva del Garda before touring down the west side of the lake and staying at Pescheria del Garda. Lovely spots with great food and wines - and not too dear. The good thing about being out of season was that there was loads of parking available and not too many tourists. We did a day trip to Verona (worth doing) and didn't even have to queue to get into Juliet's balcony. We got a recommendation to visit Borghetto and that was worth a visit - houses built in the river for protection. in the mid 80s I did a trip around Como, but can't recall much about that. I hear that Maggiore is the pick of them.

Thanks for the info we plan next year but never too early to start planning

    Very nice 👌

You can see the DNA and the evolution of the design coming through in the 981.

More roomy in the cabin too , which I need.

    Enjoy

Might see you on a run round the scottish ‘lakes’ over the summer……..😂

Do you go to ‘Porsche in the Glen’ in East Kilbride if you do maybe bump into you there if not might we’ll see you round the Scottish lakes.

Well done, and welcome to the red interior club. A trip around the Italian lakes, perfect Boxster use. Enjoy .

I like red interiors but when I saw the pictures of the car I wasn’t so sure but when I went to view the Boxster I absolutely loved it’s red interior I think the colour really lifts the cabin plus it has the extended leather which makes it a great place to be feels very luxurious.

  9. Here are a couple of pictures of my new to me Boxster 981 and I absolutely love it. I just had the PSE retrofitted and it sounds absolutely amazing just can’t get the smile off my face every time I go for a drive. I have owned a 986 and 987 Boxster S’s but I have got to say the 981 takes the Boxster to a new level, it just seems much more grown up and in my eyes a much more stylish car interior and exterior wise. All Boxsters are brilliant but I think Porsche upped their game when they designed the 981. I plan on doing an Italian lakes road trip next year but in the meantime I will enjoy the car to the max. Life is good.IMG-2921.jpgIMG-2436.jpg

  10. Hi Spook I can answer your second question you will get a 2 year warranty on parts and labour if you get the PSE retrofitted at a OPC.

As for your first question I was told by Porsche Glasgow that the reason for the long wait for the PSE was down to Porsche getting a new supplier and the time needed for them to tool up to produce the PSE to Porsche’s specifications they didn’t say whether there were any modifications to the original design so the simple answer to your question is I don’t know.

  11. Just back from Porsche Glasgow with the new PSE fitted to my car and there is only one word to describe how it sounds  - AWESOME!! I drove home with the roof down so that I could hear the exhaust  crack and burble and pop and couldn’t believe how good it sounded. I am absolutely delighted with the new exhaust it adds another dimension to an already brilliant driving experience it’s a 👍 from me

  12. Just dropped my Boxster off at Porsche Glasgow to get the PSE retrofitted. The fitting time going by the worksheet is 5 hours but due to the many rusty nuts, bolts and clamps they said it could take longer and I might not be able to pick it up until tomorrow. Can’t wait to hear the new exhaust I am like a kid at Xmas 😂😂

  13. I am selling my Boxster S and it has been pampered in my ownership and I have spent thousands of pounds on it in my 6 years that I have had the car so it has all the work done on the car including a full suspension refurbishment. I have placed an add on this site in the for sale section today so if you’re interested please get in touch

    Cheers Dean

Hi guys just a quick update on the PSE I have on order, I got a call from Glasgow OPC yesterday to tell me my exhaust will definitely be delivered tomorrow I have just to contact their service department to arrange a suitable date for fitting. I am super excited!!
So it looks like the PSE’s on back order are definitely starting to filter through.

My PSE arrived at Glasgow OPC today and car is booked in on the 3rd of April to have it fitted. I hope the weather improves so that I can go out to play with my new toy!!

That’s interesting I have just recently bought a 981 Boxster and ordered a PSE in November last year from Porsche Glasgow for my car. They gave me a date of the 28th of this month to supply and fit it. I have not heard anything from them so I am hoping it will still happen on the 28th but I also know the PSE’s have been on back order for quite a while just have to wait and see what happens

  16. I recently bought a lovely 981 Boxster through a private sale and the only paperwork/receipts the seller had was for a service he had got done before putting the car up for sale. The service book had been stamped with the first two services done at Porsche and the next 3 services done at 3 different independents. I got in touch with  Porsche first and they were quite happy to send me copies of the invoices for the services that they had carried out on the car all be it the previous owner’s name and address were blanked out. I did the same thing with the 3 independent garages and they were also quite happy to send me the invoices for the work they had carried out on the car but again they had blanked out the names and addresses of the previous owners. I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t do the same thing and get the missing paperwork just reach out to the Porsche Centre that has serviced the car.

I have just recently bought my 981 and after checking the MOT history I saw that it had an advisory on the last test stating that the front pads are worn thin. I bought Zimmerman discs which are a German brand and they had a made in Germany sticker on the boxes. I bought Textar pads which I think are OE or so I have read. I actually fitted the discs and pads yesterday and they certainly seem to be  good quality but of course time will tell. I will add that the Zimmerman discs come fully coated including the braking surfaces which you do not remove as the coating is removed by the pads after a few braking cycles.

I forgot to say that the old pads I removed from the car were Textar with the Porsch part number on them.

Just a quick update my PSE did not get fitted on the 28th of last month as the exhaust kit did not arrive and the OPC do not have a new date so still a waiting game it seems

<wazz on bonfire>  So now the clock starts on how many months it takes for one of the valves to seize?  </wazz on bonfire>

I would hope if you kept the valves well lubricated with high temp grease and actuate them regularly then that would fix the problem of the seized valves
