  1. I got my previous Porsche which was a 3.4 Cayman S remapped and although I tried to kid myself that it seemed a bit livelier I don’t think it made any noticeable difference so I would say in my experience don’t bother and spend your money on something else.

I think you need a turbo engined car for a remap to make any noticeable difference

Its well sign posted and if you can go outside of the main holiday period as it does get busy. If you get up 1st thing you get the route all to yourself :) Also well worth checking out the southern apl cols, these are deserted and as long as you have a head for heights great fun.

Thanks Steve7 will definitely do the route when we are staying in Antibes

I am planning on taking my Boxster to the South of France next year staying in Antibes and this looks like a great route to do and see some sights

Thanks I have emailed them but the website says it does not have a harness for the cars with MOST

I have just checked Bergvill.s website and they do supply a harness for Boxsters with Bose (Porsche option M490) it’s a bit pricey at €55 but will make it a plug and play fitting.

It is item 12321 on their website

Fwiw.  I recently did the rears on my 987. I used Porsche parts (from opc) and the pads were labelled with both a Porsche part number and and textar branding.

However just because textar make those pads doesn’t mean that every pad that comes from their factory is the same, there will be different compounds and and perhaps different tolerances.

a local Indy suggested to me that squeal is a product of the compound and profile of the pads and the composition of the disks.  They said they had stopped using pagid disks because they found them more prone to it.

that said. My previous 987.2 was fitted with pagid/textar combo on the rear by the supplying dealer and they were fine.

depends on the model of course but the shims (where required) seem to make a difference.  (For the 987.2 the S has rear shims on the rear, the non S doesn’t. )

Thanks Paul that is interesting, the only reason I was going to use the Textar pads was because I had read that they were OEM but then I read about the brake squealing caused by using them. I have bought Brembo discs so I think I will buy the Brembo pads which you would think should be compatible and also fit new shims. I could be wrong but I think it is just the S models that use shims in the rears.

    Thanks for your reply

    Dean

  6. Has anyone had problems with Textar brake pads squealing? (They are supposed to be Porsche OEM) I am in the process of changing the rear discs and pads on my Boxster S but have read on some forums that the Textar pads cause brake squeal. Has anyone had any issues with these pads.

  7. On a previous Boxster S 987 that I owned I just felt that the standard exhaust sound was much too restrained and quiet for my taste so I firstly fitted a fabspeed back box which was way too loud you just couldn’t have a conversation in the car. Took that system back off and sold it. So a few months later I thought I would try again and this time I fitted a Milltek back box but found this too quiet so took it back off and went back to stock. I sold that Boxster a few months later.

Fast forward 10 years and as I had now retired I just had to get myself back into a Boxster ( Hard to live without them once you have owned one) I bought a nice 986S that had the PSE fitted and I have to say the sound from it is just sublime and exactly what I was trying to achieve all those years ago. I know we all have different tastes and exhaust notes are subjective but I think Porsche know what they are doing when it comes to designing exhausts for these cars. Just my two bobs worth.

By way of update, I went through all the comparison sites and the cheapest I could find for the Macan was around £700 for fairly basic cover. My renewal from Ford Insure (not sure how I ended up with Ford Insurance on a Porsche) was nearly £900. Last years premium was around £600 but was very comprehensive. I decided to call Ford Insure and do some haggling. I have never succeeded at this with an insurance company, but lo and behold, they immediately dropped the price to £550! Result - happy with that.

I always enjoy a haggle with insurance companies and have nearly always found that if you ask for a ‘loyalty’ discount they usually oblige

having problem to remove the transmission mount and bracket completely out of the way to get to the two screws to remove the old switch

The bracket looks different to all the U tube videos and step by step guides

Does any one have any suggestions

The Tiptronic cars have a different bracket from the manual cars. When I replaced my transmission mounts on my tip car I found that if you move the jack that you are using to support the gearbox up or down you should be able to find a position that allows removal of the old mount and bracket. I found that the transmission mount and bracket on the opposite side of the gearbox from the selector switch side was actually a lot more awkward to remove because of the oil cooler right beside it

    Hi

I am wanting to fit a Continental CDD7418UB-OR HEAD UNIT to my Boxster.

At present I have the Bose system which I believe is option 680 MY-01 digital sound package MY 02- sound system Bose analog and 692 CD autochanger "Porsche"

I have read that it's not a straight forward changeover, can anyone enlighten me on this?

I bought my Continental head unit from Bergvill and they sell two different wiring harness’s so that it becomes a plug and play fit. There is a harness for a Porsche that has the basic head unit from the factory ( like my car) ie no Bose or amplifier and a different harness for cars with the bose and amplifier which is what you will need. I have to say it was very straightforward to fit the Continental to my car but I think it is a bit more involved fitting it to a car with your setup

Finally just received my French registration papers and just installed my new French reg plates, so that now completes the journey! Been having so much fun on many bendy windy roads in the sun with the roof down - absolutely glorious!

For driving in France, the two key items to carry with you are the high vis vests and also a warning triangle + you need UK badge and beam benders + crit air sticker if you're visiting certain cities (becoming gradually more widespread). Nothing else is obligatory.

Quick question - with the car now looking so good, it's a little annoying to see the discolouration on the wheel nuts, so I was interested to see if I could get some caps for them to improve the aesthetics - has anyone purchased such things, that look in keeping with the look of the car??????

Can you tell me where do you get the crit air sticker from?

I also painted the wheel nuts with silver Hammerite and still looking good 3 years later

+1 on teh above.  Green cards are not required as long as your policy has European cover and the multi language statement printed on it, nor is an International Driving Permit.  Also you may have people tell you you need disposable breathalysers, this law has been repealed in France so they are not required.  Also head light alignment; I have Litronics so I have to pop out each head lamp and move the small lever from O to T position and remember to do the reverse on my return.  Check your driver's manual.

Thanks 1/2cwt my Boxster also has litronics so I will pop one out and have a look for the lever to change from O to T

    Cheers Dean

Non definitive list but this is what I had when I went to Le Mans.

Uk license, car v5, mot cert.  UK stickers on the end of the number plate (replacing the old GB one) - or a uk sticker on the back ( I didn’t do that )

some random bulbs so there is evidence of ability to replace bulbs because I think that’s a requirement.

hi vis vest inside the car for each occupant.

first aid kit - not sure if that’s a requirement but I carry it anyway.

aside from that. Check you insurance to see if you need a green card (I didn’t )

I also got a toll tag from envoris - such a win at the toll booths.

Thanks Paul much appreciated. Me and the wife are planning on taking the Boxster to the South of France and wasn’t too sure what was required

Got a wash done including details round door and boot shuts that if often forget, rinsed off with rain water (from butts and from the sky), and lint roller the roof.  Amazing who much better this makes the roof look, did The Better ½'s Golf roof too.  Applied the UK sticker ready for my upcoming Euro trips.  Also gave the headlamp lenses a good cut polish with G3 fine scratch removal paste ready to apply the UV wipe on coating tomorrow and also hopefully a good bodywork and glass polish tomorrow.

Can you tell me what is required to take a UK Boxster to France nowadays  regarding legalities

    Thanks Dean

Depends where you live, further south where I do most ravelling I rarely lose DAB on the move but I do find it more variable out into Wales and further north in less populated areas.  That said more and more of the time I stream music stored on my phone these days.

The purpose of the post was to indicate both DAB and non DAB versions are available on these Conteinal/VDO units, and help avoid people picking something they don't want or thinking they can't have something they do want should they rear this thread in future.

Yeah get what you’re saying to give people the info to make the correct choice for them.

I live in Scotland and can lose the DAB signal in my Volvo driving to the end of my street!!! 😂

To assist others, TRD7412UB-OR has DAB (extra D in the part number), TR7412UB-OR, no DAB,  Difference is about £20 in price.

I always thought DAB would not lose signal but that’s not the case I am a bit underwhelmed by DAB to be honest that’s why I didn’t go for the Continental HU with the DAB
