Scoots986
Hi everyone, just had a lot of new rear suspension fitted and had my wheels refurbed and new tyres fitted so I need to get it checked out for alignment. Anyone know of a good place in West Sussex Gatwick area and what sort of cost I can expect to pay for 4 wheel Laser alignment. I don't want to travel too far with a risk of scrubbing the new tyres. the baron
Ive had a few done, laser alignment is good but on the Boxster I would recommend using Hunter equipment, just so much more accurate, it costs a bit more but well worth it.
Scoots986
Thanks for that, I think Kwik Fit use Hunter equipment I will get a price and let you know how it goes.....cheers
Jason986S
Just to note, the Kwik Fit quoted price usually only includes from wheel alignment adjustment. To have the caster/camer etc done all round will cost extra.
Scoots986
Hi yes thanks for that, I must admit I am not a big fan of Kwik Fit, i might shop around.
edc
Try one of your local specialists like Addspeed, 9excellence or Parr.
mxm1275
If it helps, my 4 wheel alignment cost me £140 or so using a local garage who used the Hunter 4 wheel tool. Mine was out at the back and making the car drift to the left.
mikefocke
The skill and experience of the person doing the alignment matters a great deal. See if they ask if you want max wear or max handling as they can select settings for either and still be within specs. The good alignment person will know what setting values give what result. (Try to find someone who sets P-cars up for racing. They tend to know the effects of setting in a way that the average alignment guy doesn't.) Mr96er
this is great advice. I had mine done and drive with so much more confidence knowing and feeling it's set up right.
drumsterphil
Mine is being done tomorrow by Ben at Renspeed - mine has very alarming handling at present so I'm looking forward to Ben working his magic. I think experience counts a lot with setting these cars up properly - by all accounts they're very sensitive to alignment. Previously I've only ever used marque specialists for geometry - can't say I'd be entrusting my car to Kwik Fit.
edc
If you haven't experienced them car with a standard set up I would probably suggest getting it accurately set to standard first. Some decent tyres on it. Drive it hard for the next 7 months. Assess what you dis/like then feedback to make some adjustments. Between my 2 Boxsters over less than 5 years I think I've had the geo done about 5 maybe 6 times, each time a little tweak, sometimes with new components. That986
Seconded on the Hunter alignment, get them to go through everything. It's one of the things I've had done to every one of my cars when I've bought them and every 12 months after. It makes such a huge difference when they're properly set up. Mr96er
I went to the specialist and they recommended the Leeds kwikfit as they have the best equipment. I watched them do it and it felt so much better after, I'd go again if it felt off. £70 well spent.
drumsterphil
Mine was done on Saturday at Rennspeed by Ben and Jim (off here). Not a laser alignment system in sight but the end result was awesome. Don't presume because someone has the "best" equipment that they're automatically the best - personally I don't think you can beat a marque specialist who knows how to set these cars up (IMO obviously).
