Going to try some Cataclean and take it for a blast before a retest, only problem is that it has full tank of VPower in it. So not sure if the Cataclean will do anything. Cars been parked up for the last 4 months, so not sure if that has anything t do with it. If it has been parked for 4 months a good blast putting lots of heat through the exhausts should clean it up and burn off any residues thay may have hardened on the lambdas without any additional special (snake oil??) products. Your probably right, I had the issue last year but the tester got to pass eventually Anyway today gave it a minor service and booked it in for retest this coming week. Halfordwill
Replaced the water pump and engine mount today, the water pump was ok and would have been ok to leave but it’s done now, the mount had no vibration or clonking on gear change but it’s the original and has started to tear. Pushed the old one out and new one in. ready for the summer now 🌂
Darren Sapsford
Got the car up on a ramp for the first time since purchase. Needs all four coffin arms, an exhaust and some new coil packs as the others are cracked. Not too bad really. If DIY, enjoy the work, otherwise at least enjoy the results.

Booked a day off work so I could take it run before it’s retest. The bloody amount of road works going on around the area is something else. Anyway it passed just. Got it booked in with Revoultion Porsche, for them to give it once over, just so I know it’s all running like it should be.
Darren Sapsford
Drove it home for the first time since purchase, washed it, hoovered out and started making a list of jobs to do and how much it's going to cost 😄
t-leut
Picked her up yesterday, drove home for 60 miles with a huge grin. Today did some hoovering, inside cleaning and just made an appointment at a local detailing pro for a big exterior clean with protective coating. Now making a list of items to purchase... (dustcover, floormats, 12V plug etc 😉 )
Cjames
Cleaned out the drip pipes and sealed the wheels
Darren Sapsford
Replaced coil packs, starts so much better. Replaced the plastic roof ball joint so my roof shuts square. Only little jobs but very satisfying.

Looks pretty fair condition for a 986 that has been used and sold on rather than cosseted. Condenser doesn't seem to have rotted out yet either - they are an easy DIY job once you've got this far if they ever need doing. PS - Update 'My Ride' on you profile? ½cwt
Working from home so took the Boxster out for a lunchtime shopping trip (still chaos for any long shelf life goods in the supermarkets..) picked up Plus Gas and some Pagid DOT4 brake fluid (£10.49 online for 1l, only £5.99 on the shelf in store) ready to do the brake lines and possibly callipers in the near future. Rained whilst I was out and I promptly rediscovered the rear wheel steering effect of accelerating from standstill at a junction, I was pointing in the direction I wanted to go somewhat before I'd got the steering lock off 😀 😲

I’ve had the MG in various states of disrepair and modification since the late 80’s. It’s only “failed to proceed” three times on the road. Once was a broken half shaft, once a clutch cable and once was lack of petrol. On track slightly less reliable 3 DNFs. Twice was an electrical short which popped the fuse on the ECU. That was expensive ( double header on Silverstone GP) and the other was a throttle body breaking on the opening lap, again Silverstone. 😕

When I had my first Boxster it was shod with PS2 tyres all round with a decent level of tread, cold/wet grip was horrible at the rear. When I checked the age of the tyes, the fronts were 2 years old, the rears were 6 years old. Swapping the rears for a new set of PS2 tyres made a huge difference! It was a surprise but all under control, so no underwear issues (sorry to disappoint @rowbos with his various fetishes), it was far from a lead foot amount of throttle! I don't mind the odd little wiggle or drift or a roundabout when pushing on a bit, but a 90° Tee junction from standstill.... The rear tyres are not the greatest, Nankang brand (fitted by PO with a 2017 date code and still lots of meat on them but may be a contributing factor, year old GY Asymmetric 5 on front BTW. Need to wear them all down though to justify the cost of rubber for the 18" rims I have already but need new rubber.
stupidget
Just about to go and pick mine up from it's MOT where it's passed with no advisories. I must admit that I expected it to fail on emissions due to the cloud of white smoke it chucks out on a cold morning, but as I took it for a drive before dropping it off I have dodged that MOT bullet. Would that be classed as cheating?

Then he wrote the car off. You may be making a very expensive saving.
