philw696
I'm sure this must have been discussed so please be kind to me. My 05 S had new brakes when I bought it and all was good. Now on the very last bit of braking I get this nasty loud squeal. I have tried getting them very hot but it still comes back. Any advice appreciated. Phil. in_dellible
Same. Just had an MOT and the only advisory was the brakes "grabbing". Whatever that means.
PaulQ
Brake squeel when first applying them is quite common, but I've never heard of it happening at the end.
Nick_McUK
Did you fit new dampers to the new pads?
philw696
The brakes were done by a specialist in Silverstone just before I bought the car. The bill was £915.16 Which was just for the discs, pads and labour. No mention of renewing the caliper dampers and I guess they don't come with the pads. Where would be the best place to buy them ? Cheers, Phil.
Nick_McUK
Euro car parts have them...and they have a discount code running this week too "MID60" https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Porsche_Boxster_3.2_2006/p/car-parts/brake-friction/brakes/brake-accessories-and-brake-fitting-kit/?101339140&1&1accca7657c84f84cc679c96eefcba279cf3d0db&001335 https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Porsche_Boxster_3.2_2006/p/car-parts/brake-friction/brakes/brake-accessories-and-brake-fitting-kit/?101339030&1&8ba12179af20d96d2d429e7df4ddbbaab5239ef9&001335 Based that on my 987.1S but stick your reg in and it will hopefully bring up what you need. thanatoid
Copper ease? Supposed to stop squeally things...
philw696
Not really any good as the pads need to be stuck by the adhesive from the dampers to the pads I believe. Coppaslip would mess this up.

Else it creates a lot of squealing, usually from within the cabin!!!!!!!

thanatoid
Reminds me of a guy who complained about his Norton 850 discs being rusty, we jokingly suggested he spray them with WD40 and then had to stop him when just about to do so..... nolan
Mine used to do this, but only during hot summer days, never when it was cold. My solution was to take off the wheels and blast all the brake components including the slots between the disks with a compressor and airgun - just to remove all the build up of brake dust. philw696
Here in France we have had some very hot weather in the low 40's. I have de glazed the pads and drilled the dust out of the rotors but the noise comes back before you know it.

philw696
Now having the new parts from Euro Car parts it all makes sense. They have one life really as the back of the pads stick to these damper plates. Should stop the pad face lightly touching the disc when the pressure off. Not cheap really but when a specialist is charging a Grand what's another £80. Job Done.
Nick_McUK
Was it the shipping that bumped it to £80?
philw696
Shipping was a fiver. My bad total delivered for all four calipers was £63.87 with the special discount code which gave £20.00 off.
philw696
What a very satisfying job and to have the car exactly as it should be. The only noise is the Glorious one from the exhaust under acceleration.
Nick_McUK
Cool so the dampers from ECP fixed it? Did you do front and rear or just fronts?
