Stuart I have owned a 2007 Boxster/2 3.4i for 5 years great car always serviced by Porsche and would never change it ! best Porsche I ever owned and ive owned a few , however over that 5 years the cd/radio with Bose system has always been intermittent , one day its fantastic next day its all on but no sound just clicking through the speakers . might be ok for a few weeks then goes off for weeks then back on , usually when im parked at max volume 🙄. over that time Porsche have looked at it twice cured it only for it to go within days again , ive tried all the fuse tricks, batt disconnects, new amplifier etc etc , been to audio specialists and other Porsche owners no luck . im convinced its to do with the alarm system . can anyone give me a fix ? ive priced up to rip it out for a new complete system but I would rather keep it pure , when its on its great ! thanks in advance ( new member.)

If it was we - rip it all out and install a new system. It's not like you haven't tried to fix.

I changed my headunit a month back, and it was a rewarding upgrade. Wish I had done it sooner

probably the way to go, others on here have put in some good systems...you'd likely be able to get an internet based, andorid or similar system that gives you the option of spotify/waze/google maps etc which is going to be a big step up from a 987 PCM system (not sure what else would be needed in light of the Bose system though...search on here for the threads related to other's solutions)

listen hanzfree I think you've given it a good go....I think if you set up a poll most woudl be ripping it out mate...I still have PCM in my 981 but if it went wrong I think I seriously consider replacing it with something alternative (I mean the PCM maps are now 5 years out of date for one!)

On my 2014 Boxster I had an issue where occasionally when I started the car there would be only very low muffled sound. All head unit lights etc on but no sound. This was intermittent. They tried a new amp etc etc all to no avail. They then worked out that it was if you switched the ignition on too fast that a relay somewhere wasn`t latching and therefore powering the amp. I don`t know if they ever cured it as I part exchanged it with them before it was fixed. This was at Portsmouth so they should have the info. PM me and I can give you the reg so they can look it up for you. Therefore one thing to try is put the key in, turn to position 1, pause a few seconds then start it. Mine would work every time if you did this. Not real world start up though !

I read that you mentioned 'roof down', as you know there is a lead going into the sub unit at the side behind the drivers seat, you access when you release the rear hood to access the engine - the plug is stiff and if the lugs has been forced then it can work loose either with the roof in operation as in the down position it might be putting pressure on it - also motion might contribute.

hanny thanks  for reply / advice , I have always thought it might be something with the Bose sub ,  clicks through all the speakers when not working , as if a relay is trying/failing to engage , ive never seen the engine 🙄in 7 years ! but I did have a failed roof closure which involved new roof struts etc done by Porsche , might it have been loosened then ? or even when Porsche service it ? not looking to blame but these things happen and ive always thought along those lines . Do I have to expose engine to get to it ? regards Paul

Lower the roof to about 12 inches from the front windscreen, this will also raise the rear cover where you can unclip the rear wires that attach the rear part of the hood. Lift up the rear part of the roof and you should see the plug going into the bass unit on the drivers side. Have a search on YouTube where you can get a better idea, very straight forward when you see it done.
