Virglas
Anyone done this....thinking of parking the car up for the winter....rather than let the normal policy run I was wondering if I could get something low cost just to cover the car whilst its off the road? I suppose it depends on how much you pay for insurance aand car tax
daz05
You could reduce it to 3rd party if you are brave enough and lower the mileage I guess, probably not much of a discount though.
Jason986S
I would probably just leave normal insurance on it. Unless your insurance is excessively expensive
RickLS7
I normally SORN mine from November until March. For some reason, the Boxster is only £160 year fully comp and protected no claims so never thought of reducing cover.
Virglas
I'm paying a lot more than that...who are you with?....
RickLS7
Admiral multicar, mines an old 986 though.
MIkeyv60
I only pay around £330 on my
Tony Daniel
I'm another who keeps the car INSURED and Mot'd but SORN over winter. Apart from the obvious risk of the car getting damaged or stolen from the garage, its nice to know you can tax it again for a month if you feel like a winter blast. I think the money I get back for the SORN pays for my insurance 😃
Glosrich
Unless you are paying loads for your insurance, its probably not worth the hassle. I just SORN mine Nov to April, parked in the garage on charge, but insured. Pay about £500 for 2 cars on a multicar policy.

If you switch between a normal policy and a off road policy every six months, you'll get clobbered by cancellation charges on each policy and may not build up NCB as you never have a full year of insurance. I'd concentrate on getting the cheapest deal on standard insurance.
