dpg123
Happy New Year! I got into my car after a couple of weeks idle (the car, not me) and wanted to do one wipe of the windscreen with the wipers, so pressed the right hand stalk down one click. There was a slight click noise and now the stalk is floppy and loose. Have I broken it or can I fix it somehow? Anyone had this before?
huytonman
sounds like you will need a replacement - there isnt anything fixable in the switch attached to the stalk and they are a bit fragile. Not a lot of money to buy a new one but from memory you will need to buy both sides i.e. indicators and wipers as a single unit. Fitting isnt too difficult but if you arent confident with spanners or dont have a decent set of tools leave it to a garage. I would give Eurocarparts a check out for the replacement, they seem good value generally and failing that a main dealer (I wouldnt bother with a used one from Ebay....I tried that route and after all the trouble of fitting it found it was bust, as I said they are a bit fragile). GmanB
I believe the cheapest new one will be from Porsche. Not aware of any after market stalk units, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.
GmanB
If you don't have it already, it's also worth considering retro fitting cruise control as you'll need an extra stalk on the unit.

That's just what I did I retrofitted both cruise control and obc bought a new one from OPC there are very good how to instructions on here. Similarly with mine the indicator stalk broke and I opted for a 4 stalk instead the 3 stalk. Indy did the fitting and ECU coding, I think all in for £400 ish. I wasn't brave enough to do it myself though, good on you.
John2000
I had lots of support from a few guys on here that gave me the confidence. The cruise control was invaluable on my recent Europe trip through France and Spain
½cwt
I had OBC already but upgraded to cruise as well. Local indy coded it for free after I fitted. @John2000 has mentioned the 'How to' that I wrote on this for a 2000 model year S. Check it out on the how to section as it references other forums with useful info on stalk changing even if you don't add any extras.
John2000
@½cwt was a big help with the cruise control and @Richard Hamilton was a big help with the OBC. I was waiting for ½cwt to pop on because on a phone you can't type his forum name. But I did it and it gives a lot of satisfaction especially as I almost always use a specialist indy to do my work because I'm getting a little long in the tooth these days to do things.
