Looking at a 987.1 FSH, great condition, 05, going for £7700. Would high mileage 105k put anyone off?

Not as long as history is good. Look at recent MOT advisories and recent work done. Things like a suspension refresh at that age are good news. Cars need to be driven and so long as maintenance is regular the mileage should be no problem.

Thanks, car has just been mot’d and there are no advisories

Unless there is history and the items mentioned below Have been done I’d budget about 2 to 3 grand soon.  Ask how I know.

waterpump

suspension

brake pipes

brake discs and pads

AOS

coil packs

front coolant pipes

you might be lucky at that price and it’s all been done but in suspect not.    I’ve done some of the work myself but if you’re not handy be prepared to hammer your debit card

as another scottish prospective buyer, do your homework

FSH is one thing, but the general maintenance is another - sa utah is spot on, there are loads of things that can cost a fortune, personally I'm looking to buy a cherished example and willing to wait - check out some of the posts, a guy called Davy just bought one and needed to spend over £4k to get it up to scratch

probably same as you colin - a 2.7 would be fine for me too - looking to spend less than £9k, but in no rush tbh

not sure if the IMS is an issue on that year, someone will probably chip in and advise

im also interested in a cayman, but harder to find

most people do say that its best to try get heated seats in the boxster

As I understand it once the engine has got to that kind of mileage the chance of the IMS going is tiny.
would like a Cayman myself but a bit out of my price range, don’t want to go over 10k really.
Yes heated seats especially in Scotland would be a big plus but there are not too many of them around

I struggled as I really wanted heated seats.  And sports seats which are way better but also wanted electric adjustable seats.

I couldn’t get all of that so have non sport seats !

every time I sit in my friends manual non heated sports seats though I sort of feel inferior.  Even just seeing the seatbelt rubbing strip on her seats brings on jealously.
bt she bought a 7k boxster and has spent 2.5k on it.   All at and Indy

seems to be quite the norm on that spend, but there are still a few people who seem to get a well maintained car that needs very little spent on it

as i will only be doing around 3/4k miles per year, im really taking my time to find something so that i can try to avoid any huge bills - obviously i know there will be bills to come as I've had porches before

i get what you mean on the seats - my 996 had sports and my 3.2 carrera didn't and i always wished it did

always better for reselling when you have the best extras

Forgive the numpty question here but what do these 'sports seats' look like? My google-fu is weak at the moment and I can't understand all the various pictures that a search of '987 sports seats' brings up. Are they the ones with the hard backs?

And while we're on the topic of heated seats, how hard is it to add them to a car that didn't originally have them? Do the cars come with the relevant connectors on the wiring harness to add them? Is it as simple as buying the heating mats and switches for the dashboard and installing them?

@colonglasgow Don't worry about mileage, it's all about condition and maintenance. A well looked after high-mile car will be a MUCH better proposition than a low-mileage abused one. If in doubt then take it to a specialist for a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI), or ask nicely on here and you may find a local enthusiast who will come with you to have a look.

My understanding of 'sports seats' in the Boxster is the ones with the 'wings' at shoulder height which give that extra bit of support. There are various kits for adding heating to the seats, but I don't think any are 'plug and play' as unless specced from new, the wiring isn't in place so you'd have to splice into the existing harness somewhere and most come with aftermarket switches. I'm sure you can buy the OEM switch from the OPC and fit to make it look standard, but a relatively involved job as they will draw a lot of current which limits how you connect them to avoid overloading existing circuits.

sports seats are more contoured around the edges, and yes they are hard backed- i think they were an expensive option at £2k+

as far as i know, retrofitting heated seats would be quite a task i think

trying to get sports & heated may be tricky, BUT they are out there - depends how desperate you are Colin for a car
