986S 2004

Hello, 

Hopefully next Saturday i will become Porsche 986S owner from 2004 with only 60k miles on the clock and a lot service history from main dealer and some Porsche specialist garages. 

However I have few question with regards to the price - looking on the different websites which value cars this is fetching circa £6k for the mileage and years however i would assume that as it's anniversary year they are normally costing a lot more. Then what is reasonable price from dealer not private person ? 

What i should check apart water behind seat and check water and oil cap, noise , IMS etc. 

Anyone around Manchester / Sheffiled area who would not mind give a hand for some £ to check as well in case when i will miss anything. 

Appreciated any comments and help - if i posted in wrong forum i'm really sorry but just get to excited about the car.

Are you saying its a 550 Anniversary model, or is a poorly worded advert confusing you. Check here

I think Anniversaries are a bit more but not a lot more.  I wonder if the 986 market-watching regulars could quantify. Without looking I'd guess 500-1000 more.  Some people actually think the cocoa interior is ugly, until they are re-educated

I love the cocoa. I think there's much more of a gap in price between them for a proper anniversary, I've seen some listed for circa £11k? The strange fact is that auto trader seems to class pretty much all 2004 models as annis though? So definitely check out Gutleys post.

Re the price, if it is a 550 with the number plaque then I reckon up to about a £2k premium for a well looked after collectible examples, but rough ones much less. One nice one on here sold recently for about £8k at 96k miles. Suspect it would have gone for significantly more with 20-30k less on the clock as many are looking at these as collectibles now.

Then overall what is reasonable price for 986 S from 2004 with a lot paperwork from Porsche garage / dealer? Is £9k sounds over the board or it's fair price for car coming from dealer?

It is high unless its an actual Anniversary model - can you post a link to the actual car as it would help immensely to give a better guide on price?

I’d prefer 8k rather than 9k and I would expect a decent guarantee with it too.

So not an anniversary model, but looks like a decent spec, heated sports seats, extended leather? rear parking sensors. That's just going off the video as can't read the full blurb due to old iPad. Agree £9k is over the top at this time of year.

Agree too, but if they won’t budge and you can get a pre-purchase inspection by a local specialist (paid by them) that shows no major work needed for a couple of years, then I’d go for it if its the car you really want

It does seem pretty high.

I got my 2004 S in Seal Grey with 89k on the clock for £4500 last year.  Same spec apart from mine not having heated seats.

This has been for sale for over a year , it's near me and was for sale when I bought mine over a year ago , good spec nice car , but been sat for quite a while

@joshua3m this ^^^ tells a few realities, over a year to sell a car that is well sought after. It's either way overpriced (it is) and/or it has other issues - either way if you'd decide to go for it I would be asking for a reduced price after it has been inspected - definitely get it inspected it will give you a real time idea of potential issues and future cost to you - the best bargaining chip.

I,d echo this I bought mine from a boxster dealer with an extremely good reputation , mine was up for £9k and is very similar spec and is the same year / mileage , in hindsight I'd have had the 111point check done by an independent Porsche specialist as it's normally free , then you have a bargaining tool for any potential fixes that need attention , in the end I gave £8k for mine , but it's had over £3.5 k of work done under the warranty and past it's warranty expiry date , I think it's more important of where you buy it from , I'd rather buy one from here than any where else although I can highly recommend where I got mine from ,my brother in law bought his a year earlier from the same place and I'd monitored how they were with after sales with him which persuaded me to spend a bit more and buy one from them , I'd specced what I wanted and he went and found me a good low mileage example , with excellent service history .I'd be in at £8k or less for that car at this time of year

Indeed it was. Couple of niggles such as replacing 5 coils, coolant leak from cracked pipe and the sump screw being stripped when I had the oil changed last week but not bad for a 16 year old car.

indeed this is exact car which i was after however 9k sound really high specially after looking on another adverts. 

Service paperwork look ok and after having quick look there is nothing wrong with car what i can see - the only one thing which might be an issue is i couldn't see anything done or mention about IMF. 

I know that dealer will not go for less as he is already seating on this car for a while then i think i will not have another option than just look for another one. Hopefully i cant find something good and nice over here.

It does seem a little over priced. 

While my 2003 S doesn't have heated seats, it does have Bose, 18 inch wheels, extended leather, factory sat nav, PCM, cruise control and rear parking sensors. Mine had 58k on the clock back in May 2018 and I paid £8k, which was probably a little over what I should have paid, but it was summer. It only needed new tyres and alignment when I bought it. 

In the autotrader link above the car doesn't have PCM or cruise control as I can only see 2 stalks, no sat nav and 17 inch wheels. The car desperately needs the wheels bolts cleaned or replaced. Rear disks look like they've seen better days when comparing with the fronts, the inside of them can be far worse than the outside (seriously corroded and not easily visible). Interior looks in good condition, but they've put shiny cr*p all over the plastic and leather so you'd need to have a close look. 

I would ask for the registration before a test drive, so that you can check the MOT history online, if any doubts at all walk away at that price. I certainly think there is haggling power with the rear disks and wheel bolts. That's just from the photos, there may also be corrosion on the rads and condensers behind the front bumper and suspension work will need doing in the near future, if not now. 

The dealer might get 9k for in the summer when demand is high, personally I wouldn't pay that for it if I was in the market.

There's a nice one up on the for sale thread, alank car it's a 2003 car with lots of the important work done at a very reasonable price £5500 and an engine rebuild with new clutch and ims, if I was in the market again I'd definitely have a look at this one or if you bide your time there's always something decent on here I just wouldn't jump into something quick ,take your time , but if you buy from here you know generally it's been well sorted , I think this is a steal  and this time of year it's a buyer's market
