You might have to check that one out with an Aussie - when I was working out there many years ago I was talking about some datacomms equipment (spelt router, pronounced by americans as row-ter, and pronounced by us lot as 'rooter') - my aussie friend told me to use the english term sparingly - locally a 'rooter' was definitely not a label you wanted to have - a quick google will reveal why.
