A highly reputable indie has quoted for the work with an itemised bill. Carparts4less can supply after market parts much more cheaply. I wonder if I can buy the parts and ask the indie to supply the labour? is that likely to be acceptable or will they refuse out-of-hand? eg condenser £249.00 or £165 from 4less coil pack £52 0r £ 21.00 from 4less With these kind of savings I could afford to get everything done more quickly. I think the C4PL ignition coils are made by BREMI (not heard of them myself, but others may have). I'd spend a little more and go for the BERU ZS178. They are about £27 each on autodoc and I think OE. There is a thread on ignition coils: Edited March 8, 2021 by 987RG

I'm going to buy the ignition coils you recommend. I'll find a local mechanic to fit them, as it doesn't seem like a specialist bit of spannering. edc
If you are doing the coilpacks then check when the spark plugs are due. Your chosen mechanic can also then inspect the spark plug tubes for any leaking oil and replace as needed. Keep any good old coilpacks as spares or don't replace at all if they are still good. Good advice although I took the view that with three of them on the blink, the other three wouldn't be far behind. I must say having them done a few months back has been like a 30 bhp power upgrade! McDonald
Well, having assembled all the parts needed, I contacted the indie and asked the question. They immediately said they would be happy to fit the parts I've bought. So, instead of using a local mechanic who doesn't know all the wrinkles with these cars, it'll be going to a Porsche specialist. Result. It goes in on May. 10th. I've also booked some bodywork and wheel refurbs for the following week. I love it when a plan comes together.
McDonald
Big shout out to Precision Porsche. They've done a great job on my car today. I thought it was running sweetly before but new plugs & coil packs make it discernibly better. New Condensers mean the air-con works wonderfully. Two tone horn restored. Grills (US imports) fitted discreetly behind the bumper. Replacent headlight bulbs and rear indicator bulbs. Thanks also to the forum for all the useful tips on buying the parts. It saved me a pretty penny.
ricof
I had some work done at Precision a while ago and I checked before if they'd fit parts I supplied. They said they would only fit my parts if they were at least the quality that they would fit (Beru packs etc) and were a but dubious that I could source them cheaper. Saved me a few hundred quid.
