Sure I geddit re the total loss comment, just remembered that the fade functionality itself is lost if you weren't aware. Also have a look at the surround setting, if that is indeed a thing...

Yes I did switch the surround off, makes a difference on the PCM of course. Left it off and switched back to the Pioneers but again naff all difference 😌

Thanks for the heads up. Had a quick surf and doesn't appear to affect the F/R balance. Seems no settings that are left on the PCM when removed carry over to a replacement head unit, not entirely unexpected of course 🙂

Fair enough - was thinking that since the system uses a mike for ambient noise to figure out it's level then maybe if it was off then it will push the level up - guess it's back to "it is what it is" and the "perils" of the bose setup

Hi Gramps - glad it was just a simple issue to get the connector back out that you needed.

Plus thanks for going to the effort to repeat some of the steps I tested when I did it (before it getting too dark to just want to finish up), and also some of the extra testing too - i.e. I do recall with the PSM in that in the sound settings there was one option right at the bottom (think it was 'surround' or something) that I did not get round to also testing, so thanks for trying that too.

I've ended up with the same as you I think that I'll now be content to live with knowing you also tested and didn't get any improved results either by setting the PSM to have some rear fade too. Back speakers are a lot quieter than rest, but still some sound - but with the equalizer and other settings in the new head unit (plus car play, DAB radio and nicer / newer screen), it was costly to switch but still great sounds once you play around a bit.

Thanks for your help too. Your prompt and accurate response to my issue was a life saver 👍👍👍 and allowed me carry on from where I was stumped. Like you I'm more than happy with the sound as it is, I'm no acoustic connoisseur, I'm also glad to know they are working if only  at un undiscernible volume. I've posted the same issue on a couple of other forums I'm on, if anything pops up there I'll post it back here 👍
