I know this thread is a little old now but after all this rain and snow we have just had I would check your carpets if you leave yours outside.

Having owned a 986 for 8 years and always parking outside I always clean my drains out on my 986 and it's so easy compared to a 981 I have to say I'm a little in shock 😲  at how much more work it is having just put an holding deposit on 981 boxster

Again I'd suggest using an air compressor regularly once you know the drains have initially been well cleaned out.

Look forward to seeing the 981 details when you're ready ;)

That's a great tip, could you share the compressor and any attachments you use?

I went with https://www.screwfix.com/p/stanley-b6cc304scr523-24ltr-electric-compressor-with-5-piece-accessory-kit-230v/48089 which at the time was available for about £110.  Another option here for £99 https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb797cpr-24ltr-electric-oil-free-air-compressor-with-5-piece-accessory-kit-220-240v/976kv

I also went with this extensible airgun attachment https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08M8YS322/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Did this job today, got a bit panicked after the monsoon earlier in the week, caaf is still dry inside but just wanted a bit of piece of mind.i

The video was useful but I didnt need to take any wheels or liners off, you can get enough access just by removing the 4 t25s connecting the side panel to the liner and the eight trim clips under the car and the door trim pieces and then supporting the side panel with some cardboard, saves a lot of faffing about, bungs were pretty blocked up but are now binned😀  hopefully investing in a half cover I won't need to do this job againIMG-20230514-160904.jpgIMG-20230514-160904.jpg

Very useful post as an alternative to removing both covers fully. I'll have to try this method, thanks.

What about the front drain????

I've been searching everywhere and I can't find any details of 981 front drain holes. Are there front drain holes to unblock on the 981 Boxster?  I've removed the blocked rear plugs after a big leak and just worried that the leak may have been from the front. I've seen references to front drain holes on the 987 Boxster.

Thanks for this guidance - I have done mine today - I didn't even use the jack, left the car on the floor - made some of the screws a bit fiddly but only took a couple of hours.  Despite being a garage queen I got plenty of cr*p out.

I actually bought my Boxster S 981 from this guy! His name is Raj and he's based in Codicote near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Raj is a Porsche specialist and enthusiast and his company is called MR Sportscars. I can't praise him and his company highly enough. So, if you're in the market for a pre-owned Porsche MR Sportscars should be your first stop.

I looked at one of Raj's cars online earlier this year and had quite a chat with him, he's softly spoken and doesn't sound at all like your usual clichéd dealer, and very knowledgeable.
In the end I decided to go for a car with half the mileage as his was around 60k and the 987.2 I was selling was only a bit higher than that.
I've watched a lot of his videos though, must do my drains ASAP. 😬

can you get to the front rear drain without taking the rubber bit off? and seat belt bits?

I have a compressor and pipe etc so I reckon I can get to the bottom under motor one - not yet looked

as I missed the edit as I was checking -  I think you can get a bit of flexi pipe in the top and the bottom

I'll try and take some pics in case its handy.

My specialist dealer did mine for me, took around ten minutes per side, if that.

Left the car on the floor, just removed the side panels at the top and reached down, removing two drains from each side.

He was the only tech that could do it, the others couldn't reach in good enough. All four were full of cr*p.

981-drain.jpg

Pulled the panels off my 2014 981 today and removed these.  The blocked two are the upper valves, one from each side.  The lower ones did have some crud in but not as much.

I'd been hoping until today that they were clear as when I poured water in it did flow out.

Broke one of the 4 black clips that attach the panel to the door threshold.  In Raj's video he levers these loose using a trim tool by inserting the tool under the panel itself.  7 of the 8 popped up ok.  I was using what looked like exactly the same tool he did.  For anyone else following his video to remove the panels - either just the rear or completely - I reckon it might be less stressful on the clips if a fork ended removal tool is inserted between the clip and the panel to pop it up - rather than inserted under the panel itself.
