Roger C
Hi all, So occasionally on start up I get a puff of smoke, it clears and the car runs fine. Doesn't happen all the time, sometimes when its been sat for a week or two and sometimes after a day, does seem to happen when hot. Is this just a "Boxster thing' or do I need to start worrying?? Menoporsche
If it is parked on a slope, it is normal for oil to gradually seep past the rings then be dispensed in a puff of smoke on start-up.
½cwt
Yes when cold or left for a while any oil on the cylinder walls will have run down and settled at the low point in the cylinders. In inline and V engines this drains down through the piston rings, in a flat engine it has no where got go, hence a small oil puff on start up.
