and remember things like xenon's were not standard on the 2.7

True but we had a long discussion about that before finding out the base xenons with no washers were low-powered xenons. Just because they say xenon doesn't mean they are as bright as usual. IIRC washers required for all above 2000 lumens and most xenon lights are 3000+ lm.

Presumably you can just swap out for higher powered bulbs to remedy that, I didn't follow the conversation that far.

  2. Check also where the charging ring is mounted inside the phone. AIUI if the charger and phone don't line up correctly you will get very inefficient charging.

are 19" wheels seen as ok in 981 circles or do I need to hold out for a car with 20's

Wait, first you ask if a 2.7 is OK, then you're asking if 19" wheels are OK on a 981.

All Real Men know bigger is better.  Leave your Man Card at the door, ya goddam vegan.

Hang on, got a client wants a number 2 with lines over the ears and highlights, back in a tick...

I still noticed the lack of torque, however it's just a matter of changing your mind program.  Think of it as a 90's Jap import - use all the revs to extract the potential.  The 2.7 really impressed me and can easily be just as quick on the road as a 3.4, if you use the full rev range.

To me it's this. We have had S, 2.7 and 2.5 around the same roads, and outside the straights the fastest car is the one with the driver who cares least and knows what the red line is for, nothing to do with the engine choices. Over 5k revs they all howl.  And for those concerned about drag race times, go find a turbo car that you can chip like a VAG hatch, the Boxster has never been near the top of the drag table.

  5. Not owning a PDK but reading a lot about them, I have often wondered how much they reduce the feeling of difference between the two cars.  Acceleration will be a lot down to being in the right gear at the right time / getting bogged down or as oldies used to say, being on cam or not. So if you have a computer to do the job for you, usually they will pick a better gear than you (and change faster than you can), thus minimising differences. The differences will still be there but less pronounced.

I might be wrong. It's been known...

I think the S came with a few more goodies as standard - the lights were already different - but otherwise it's likely that enthusiasts who insist on the larger engine will also choose several more options. / Someone who "can't afford" an S will also be sparing with the options. NB this last statement may be considered classist and offensive by some.  I should say that some of my best friends are non-S owners.

What is the general concensus? does it increase temps?

Never heard any evidence of that in 15 years here, and plenty of recommendations saying to get grills to prolong the life of your condensors or even rads.

I've driven in over 40C around Lisbon with Zunsport grilles, and no sign of overheating.

    I'd get them fitted.

I’m sure I read last year on an American site that it was something to do with guides/tensioners.

I also remember such comments. And I think despite them being shiny, some flakes turn out to be plastic rather than metal. Helps narrow down what they came from.

    Good luck with it.

Tyres should have been changed at some point, they are date stamped on the side. I'd check the date stamps on all 4. At a minimum you want tyres not older than, up to you here, definitely not from 2015. Next you ideally don't want different dates side to side on the same axle but this is going down the OCD road a bit. As per above about warranty you need to check the tyres are N rated otherwise they will fail the 111 point check. The early Pirelli N0 tyres were really really bad. If you have these change them immediately.

    (Both cars on Pirellis)

Agreed, check the brand and date of tyres. We love Michelin (most expensive), Goodyear, possibly Continental. Very contrasting reviews on Bridgestones, and little love for Pirelli. Then there are others which may have great grip but wear quickly.

My point is not that you are driving a deathtrap, they are quite incredible and capable machines, but to be aware of the characteristics generally, and of your car/tyres in particular, before hooning around. I'm convinced more Boxsters have died due to this than to IMS failure, despite what you hear about the latter and not about the former. Find an appropriate place with safe run-off and play around if you can.

  9. Welcome.
Are you used to driving mid-engined? They can catch people out on wet bends and roundabouts. They don’t drift but simply spin (depending on tyres).
Otherwise, check all drain holes are clear of old leaves etc. 981 not as bad as it’s older relatives but still a good habit.

M14x1.5 stud kit 68mm black with radius nuts.  £69.99

Delivery and service from LMD has been perfect. These were the only ones I could find that were radius nuts and I also didn't want titanium studs.

Smart design, I like the way the thread doesn't come all the way to the end so you don't bruise it trying to put the wheel on.

Why not titanium studs? Dissimilar metal concerns?

  13. IIRC they have three mounting tabs that you simply bend into place on install, and therefore bend back out of place to remove. No biggy.

Just check that previous owner hasn't supplemented the tabs with hot glue or cable ties, happens occasionally.  But try bending them and see if it moves, it probably will.
