One is aircon, hotter or cooler. The other is climate control, pick your own temp. 
The more you have the roof up, the more you might like climate. 
Or, just learn how the window buttons work.

Lots of comments on improved 986 shifters here, I don’t remember any comments on damage as a result. I’d say rest easy. 

Soak a towel in hot water, lie it over for 10mins? Also a way of gently warming something (like getting dead bugs off).
