Noted lots of these type of threads, but none for the 718.

Ordered new headlights for mine today to be replaced partly under goodwill following the crazing. Just in time for the warranty to expire.

I noticed on a clear plastic measuring jug that it crazes when hot water is put in it. I was wondering whether the headlight crazing could be caused by washing the lights with hot water when the ambient temperature is low?

  2. The stripe is removable so why not if you want to try it. I've seen various forms of stripes - one, two, central, off-centre, black, silver, translucent, bonnet only and over the full length of the car. All looked fine and personalised the car.  You wont get flamed for doing it!

    Sounds interesting.

Can you give more info please?

    Any links or part numbers?

Look at the "intermittent wiper relay location" post by @Simon_S.

It refers to an eBay seller (in Lithuania) who is selling VW/Seat variable wiper relays for £9 delivered. It arrived; it worked.

  4. Assuming there is a wire you could try fishing for it from under the front of the car. I've not done this myself but when I was investigating my lock and emergency release I thought it would be possible. Using a straightened wire coat hanger with a bent hook on the end, pass it up from underneath aiming to the left or right of the lock to see if you can "catch" the wire.  Tight lines....

So I've had an indie breakdown guy out today as I get free homestart cover. I was at work but apparently he had both wheel liners off but couldn't see the manual cable?! It's definitely got to be there, right?

Yes, unless it's already been moved to a more convenient position! Try behind the towing eye socket or underneath? If it's still in its original position it'll be high up behind the headlight. Its a thin wire with a loop. IIRC it might have some red on it.

Well I took my 986 along to an PCGB regional event at Denham airfield in Bucks. I am happy to report that among a gathering in excess of 40 examples of prime Porsche my most ubiquitous model was, on the day, a unique example. Also the least valuable I would guess.  Also the only car in the rare and beautiful Meridian Silver, although would members please note the the car illustrated below was the most Pink ;-) which for me, was the most memorable car of the day.

Nice owner too, whose father also owned a 964 (cab) in white, which was parked up along side. I am 4th car down in the row of some 30 plus cars.

We can have a little contest to see who is first to post the correct colour name, no prizes, just a small increase in Porsche geek status - its an official Porsche colour btw.

Spent ages doing my roof with the AG kit...... Here's some pics @kevs

    Before :

    After (still wet):

All good, or so I thought... but once dry, this was the result :

Disappointed is an understatement as I spent ages with the cleaner scrubbing it!!!:vmad:

Put the car away in a huff and poured a big glass of wine :(

How did the wine work on it? ;)

Hood cleaning is a task that I don't enjoy! It requires hours of elbow grease working on the stubborn spots. I usually have several sessions on it over the summer and then just as it's looking good winter arrives (my car lives outside)!

    Persevere.

Sounds like you have the exact same impact wrench then, it supposed to have up to 320nm for release and 100nm for tighten

It will remove the bolts torqued to 130nm very easily.

Must be something wrong with mine then as I can rattle away at them but the bolts won't budge! Have to crack them first with a breaker bar and socket.
