I don't think any car is immune from rust unless it's made of plastic or only driven in dry summer conditions.

It depends what you are looking for. I wouldn't say 48k is mega low mileage. I had a 56k mile one, changed all the suspension and it drove much better. If you are banking on it being trouble free if not having any extra maintenance items to donfir a while then I think you 'd be disappointed.

It will either be an 096 or 110. Yuasa, Varta, Exide normally better value than Bosch.

104k, 2.5, sketchy!
An outlier for a 986 and a 2.5 at that but a hard or abused past isn't going to help.

What's the engine/mileage/history? Is the bore score the sole cause of the low compression?

I could promote my YT channel but...
140 ish on 5x cylinders (1 2 3 5 6)
90 on cyl 4
Bore score positive but minor(currently) in my eyes
Leakdown test next
Bore score on a 986?

I might try this for where my roof fabric glue has failed ...
I bought a new car recently and got £100 off for a 3" section of loose rubber window trim. Just used this tape to fix it down and jobs a goodun 👍

I decided to bite the bullet, so I brought the car to work this morning. 52 miles of country lanes and city traffic, not one drop of coolant was lost.
So for now I am ok, but that coolant tank sure is a lovely beige/brown colour!
It should be a translucent white colour ...

If you have to regularly top up or the level increases after a drive you clearly have a problem. Try a good bleed first otherwise you may have a leak at the bleed valve area seal or a hairline crack in the tank that only shows at very high temp/pressure.

Like most mods they work best and complement each other.

996 throttle body needs extra parts and a bit of trimming and fiddling buttt a good excuse if you are going to take stuff apart anyway.
You can get the throttle body off without disturbing too much of the rest of the intake. A can of carb cleaner spray and old toothbrush and rag. You can look down the intake to see how oily it is and decide whether to take it apart to clean or not from there.

I'd try a throttle body clean first.

Kwikfit use Hunter system, costs about £50 for front and about £20 per adjustment on the back. My steering wheel is no longer centred though so I need to go back.
This says it all! It's not the tools or kit that matter but the quality of the job and end result. Some good folks still do alignment by string.

Have you observed the action from the rear while somebody else pushes the button up front? 😆

I've seen the home made style switch replicating the original bar. Had been tempted to get one but didn't want to be somebody else's guinea pig second or third hand. I've got 2 kids under 3 and still have my 986 but I'm the only one that ever goes out in it.

It's pretty obvious when you fit the manifolds. In much the same way techs and home DIYers will bend back kr out the way a brake disc shield or a bit of heatshielding. These sorts of little extras don't come with instructions but are common sense when in there to solve problems.
You will also see the diagonal brace is close on most cars with the aftermarket manifolds too.

The UV exposure will always yellow the light again unless you coat or protect it. Some clearcoat others use a good wax or ceramic coat and reapply as needed.

I ordered a set for spares and as above the product number is exactly the same for a set I bought before from ECP.

Didn't see an option for a 986 listed anymore when I looked earlier https://smarttop.uk/
That is a Design website.

You can buy direct from the maker mods4cars.

What's the damage? I just renewed at just over £300 agreed value with Locktons.
How soon will my daily driver rust?

There are maybe a handful of regular posters here who use a 986 as an all weather all seasons daily and by default tend to be more hands on with maintenance.
