Good question, drove down to Basel Monday, stayed over night, then headed to Davos, and then onward to Stelvio. So up the steep side and down the more gradual gradient. Definitely an experience, but the road ‘up’ is no drivers road in my opinion. Look’’s great in a magazine, but……

Delighted to have done it in my 23yo 986.

Just waiting for my wife to fly down for dinner(!) so I’ll have to look up road numbers etc later. But I’d definitely say, go up from the Swiss side and down into Italy.

I've down it too and agree Stelvio is bucket list if only for the photo. The driving is congested and not really a good flow.

Can I offer up a 16 inch alloy and see if it will go on?

I'm struggling to visualise why the wheel diameter would be an issue? I had a quick Google but not checked on the car but if you drew a circumference around the caliper or disc/hub, all the suspension arms fit inside it.

In any event, mine are home brew ones and the ends are basically the same shape as standard suspension.

    Hi,

After replacing the suspension arms etc, I had a 4 wheel alignment carried at by ATS today.

Well the alignment is better than when it went in👍, but probably a more specialist alignment company would have “fine tuned”it.

Is that the finished result? I'd take it back if it feels off. You have on the front toe out on one wheel and toe in on the other. The rear toe in, while green and seemingly in spec seems to be too much. Normally this will show as 0.05.

  4. Yes there is a plastic duct that runs under the steering column. I first experienced this a few years ago driving in Europe. The water condensates on the outside of the duct and drips onto your ankles.

  5. On both my 986 I have had the top mount slot dremelled out and made longer. This gives more adjustment involves no parts and is probably the cheapest way to do it. If you are tidy you won't even notice as it's barely 10mm max you are doing.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but are these poly trans mounts ‘in production’ so to speak?

I don't think so. @jimk04 is rarely on the forum these days. That said I have my original old pair of mounts. These dint need to look nice and it should be a pretty simple DIY.

If you paint them with hammerite etc, make sure you line the inside of the socket with a small piece of decent carrier bag material - stops you from marking the new paint of the wheel bolts when replacing.

Or just get one which has a liner already.

I hot glued to my pre facelift 986 mesh in place.

I think cable ties round those bars on the facelift bumper will look obvious and dare I say cheapskate.  Use the cable ties to position the mesh, then glue in place.

The way to do it is drill pilot hole around black frame edge. It remains hidden then and the overlap mesh also helps self secure too.

Do these burn hotter compared to standard spec lamps?

Am asking because I’ve seen a few 986 with halogens that have brown “burns” on the internal lenses.

You should be fine on a standard 55w output. These are the same as the 100-200% brighter bulbs from the other manufacturers. It's when you use 100w bulbs when you will have issues.
