There are a few others probably 5-8 years ago that followed suit too. No longer actively posting now but posts should still be searchable.

Even if there was something on an original cat stamped to show type approval then it will be rusted to buggered by now anyway.

I've been using the eBay manifolds and sports cars for 10 years now. I've posted plenty on gains and my Dyno plots. Yes, these aren't as cheap as they used to be. MOT time needs the cats to be hot. Type approved or not it doesn't matter to me as long as they work. I also have 'home made' rear brace bar and rear adjustable toe links that won't have any form of approval either.

Jack up car and go by offside rear wheel.

Are you using the right size tyres on 986 or 987?
On a 986 rear size is 265/35/18. I'm not 100% sure for 17 but something like 255/45/17. Swapping from one to the other on the same car is noticeable.
It's not the wheel size per se that makes the difference but the thickness of the tyre wall/aspect ratio/profile.
To get the 'real' effect you need to be changing 986 18" and 17" wheels not swapping around 986 and 987 as they have different tyre sizes.

Lightly wire brush it all down first.

If you are swapping wheel sets between 986 and 987 then don't forget the 987 has a taller aspect ratio/profile. On the 986 the 18" rear is a 35 profile but for a 987 40 profile.
On the right tyres swapping 17" for 18" on a 986 is quite noticeable to me.

Get these trim bits from the main dealer. Will be cheaper than D911 and eBay.

I have had polybushes on my Cayman for about 3 years in which time I probably did ~30 track days. I have had no issues whatsoever and no cracks. I believe the snapped arm you are referring to was the tuning fork - this is a ball joint not a bush and so swapping the ball joint for a bush (of any material) will create issues.
On the road I have had no squeaking or issues of any sort. Yes there is a little more vibration in the cabin (it's the kind of high frequency vibration you get when driving over rough roads) but it is not an issue.
I no longer use my Cayman on track but will keep the polybushes on regardless.
It was the cylindrical bush that was changed.

Dry stroking?
Dry storing.

It was @ragpicker or one of his posts of somebody he knew.

I think I'd leave it alone and concentrate your set up on the geo and new coilovers. See how the car feels. Now that you've taken it apart it will come apart easily in a year or 2 if you're dry stroking and only doing track days.

I think the real issue is access. If the car's on fire would you stay in long enough to put the car's hood into service position and remove the engine cover (which would be very hot) to access the engine? No, nor would I! Could help another motorist though.
Doing that would make the fire worse surely.

Just keep what you've got and get a DSC sport controller. You won't believe what it does and you can easily tune just about every aspect of the car's handling a with laptop. It does real time data logging too. You'll have a more comfortable road car that will become a track monster at the touch of a button.
Lot of money new but they do come up used from time to time. I got mine on 911.com for less than half price. And a nice member on here sold me a cheap accelerometer which you need with .1 cars.
Not much use on a 986 with no PASM options.

I would also get some rose joint adjustable rear toe links. You will most likely need them to get the optimum or more aggressive geo for the track with that suspension choice.

That's a facelift car 2003+. The side grills are in 2 main parts. There is a black surround section that clips in from behind the bumper and the horizontal body coloured slats. A breakers or main dealer will have them but probably as a whole bumper.

On the front...
I did write front. It wouldn't work on the rear anyway as the adjustment isn't there and even if it was the design of the top mount wouldn't work.
-
There are lots of different Koni spec dampers. The FSD/Special Active is good value for the road but if I was building a track focussed car I'd probably look elsewhere.
-
If you want a cheap way to get extra front negative camber then Dremel out the top mount slot circa 5mm. You need jus lt enough that the top mount won't hit the turret inside. This can get you up to an extra 1 deg negative camber.

I sent a message to someone on Facebook who competes and he suggested a Tractive set-up for the car. I suspect this is not a budget option!
I know of the guy that runs the UK side. The suspension will be more than the car in this case.

The Boxster race series used Gaz Gold for some time. These are value rather than high end but still rebuildable.

You probably just need to bleed properly and refill whilst doing so.

Discovered that my 02, 3.2S has PSM.
Also has heated seats, glass rear panel and 3 intermediate hoops on the hood:
Could it be a face lift?
Also fitted the Toyosports s/s exhaust manifolds. Removed the suspension cross beam, had it shot blasted, painted and refitted it. Ditto the fuel tank straps and ARB’s.
If you're up in the air already then add the rear brace too. It connects the lower part of the rear struts into a box section.

They all have a spoiler. Just take a photo of the bumpers and underside of exhaust box.
Confusion on Sports Cats.

Links from eBay will be long gone but I am 99% sure they are the same generics as rebranded from AliExpress as Toyosport/Gravity/Direnza and whoever in 2024 is the next to jump on the wagon and buy the right quantity for some minor customisation or branding/stamping of the product.
