One more thing after fitting the immobilizer and ECU back into position. When I acquired the car, the heated rear window didn’t work, and when I fired it up this afternoon, I thought I would give the button a press and, yes, it works!
it also has reversing sensors, and they work as well. I would never have believed it!

MOT booked for next week after having alignment done so fingers crossed…

I would have thought you'd have seen the sensors in the rear bumper given the amount of work you've done recently?

We spent a few fun Saturdays sorting this out, didn't we Ed.

It was only the other week I threw away the "plan A"  drainpipe 😆

A good few weekends templating then actual done in an afternoon after fixing a couple of small air leaks.

  3. I have written this before a few times over the years. I've had quite a few permutations of exhaust across 2 986. I finally on my 2000 986S I had the standard exhaust. I then added the Toyosport box then later the manifolds. There is a change in tone and a small reduction is drone both in volume and spread across the rev range with the latter. My current 550 has had different combinations of 100/200 cell cats, manifolds and Carnewal box.

  4. Look for some old posts by @Berty987The other big difference is the manifolds and cats. The 987.1 has a better flowing design than the 986.

I put my 550, on 105k ish at the time, on the Dyno a long time ago and it wasn't running perfectly at that time and it did 272bhp from memory. A box fresh 987 3.2 would have been 280bhp in theory.

I can see if being the same or more as a 987 with some minor basic mods.

Broken Springs seem quite common amongst all cars out there. Is it due to manufactures using a cheaper grade steel or are springs made with the minimum amount of material required and have a finite use life?

This never used to be a thing and in fact, I have never had one broken spring since my motoring career started in 1970. maybe I haven’t had any broken springs because I have never had what some may refer to as, “a late car”,

I'm sure it's more a case of heavier cars and more pot holes and speed humps.
