Has your car got the exterior GTS pack? @zagamuffin I can't really tell if that's the gloss black trim on outisde, or just very well prepared for the pics.
Really cool spec. Illuminated door sills quite a rare/extravagant optionEnjoy!

At long last I actually got one of these from OPC (Glasgow) - for the princely sum of £3.95!
It's actually a bugger to replace as it's a ring around the filler cap and new one seems maybe 2mm smaller in diameter. Comes with a nice warning from Porsche that it can only be fitter by "An Authorised Porsche Partner".
Anyway, I removed the cap well away from car, cleaned and dried it thoroughly, and used a heat gun to stretch the new tether and persuaded it on. I tell you it is a bit odd to be using a heat gun on anything that has been near fuel!
All back on and sorted now. I do find it strange that this plastic thing (It's not actually aluminium, just aluminium look) makes a difference, but it does!
Hopefully get some decent weather soon so that I can clean the car (a new array of products on the way thanks to some random Instagram ad from EZ Car care!)

While you are deciding what to buy, drop an AirTag in it

WOW - That looks the dogs b0ll0x! @zagamuffin Congratulations. Usually I say that Carmine Red is the coolest colour for a GTS, but your new car might have changed my mind

No great loss I heard it wasn't very good.
Absolutely right, the app for our Macan is utter shyate, worked about 5 times, then just gave Vodafone errors, and can't do much with it, and now that the car is 2 years old I'd have to pay for the privilege of a truly awful app. Reason I asked is that I see 718's are now migrating app wise to My Porsche from Car Connect as part of MY2023, and maybe that is at least useful a bit
-
@daz05 Was thinking that with your PCM 4 retrofit, that this might also enable the Porsche Connect / My Porsche App for your car - is that the case, or is that still only for the later cars?

I'd been one to have Porsche's on posters on bedroom wall when I was growing up, and always had a desire to actually get one. When the Boxster was launched it seemed more attainable, but practicalities (children) meant that in about 2000 when it seemed I could actually afford one, I ended up getting a Saab 9-3 convertible instead - huge compromise but did confirm a drop top was something I'd certainly wanted again.
For a significant birthday present my wife booked us for a "Backstage Tour" in Stuttgart, and this just made the desire even stronger after a tour around the factory, and a visit to Weissach. Kids got older, and a 2 seater would be acceptable with another car in the house and I was always looking for a Boxster of some sort. So eventually after the usual run of a few BMW's, Alfa's, Audi's etc a relatively local 987.1S came up for sale on Pistonheads, and I was just returning an BMW M135i at the end of a Contract Hire/PCP agreement. It was a great spec, and a previous BoXa.net members car which had clearly been looked after with some nice mods like Parr motorsport fettling, 19" Lobsterclaws, and a Milltek exhaust. As soon as I saw it I knew I was going to buy it - the deal was done, and I picked it up a week later. I absolutely loved that car, and it firmly secured my brain into "We'll only have Porsches and MINIs from now on!" It completely ticked the boxes for me. Fast forward a couple of years, it was beginning to show its age and my eye was of course looking for the next one, and it had to be a 981. Spotted on Autotrader an Agate Grey 981S PDK with my fav wheels (Sport Techno's) - sent pic's of my 987S to the trader guy and he offered me enough so that the 981S would be mine. Trip to Yorkshire to pick it up was a bit strange - not having my 987 would be a loss, but it was a step up in almost every way to the 981 (noted by my wife who said the return trip to Scotland was significantly more comfortable!). I distinctly remember driving that car home thinking "why would anyone bother spending the extra money on a 911? This is all the car I'd ever need/want!"
981S was a joy, needed a bit spent on it though as I had drain hole issues, and after doing a couple of runs out with other owners, I knew I was probably going to spend money on PSE, liked the idea of painted rollover bars and missed some options that I'd seen on other owners cars. Man maths took over when a GT Silver BGTS popped up in Essex, and I had a total "f@ck it - I'm buying it" moment and worked the deal out, and arranged pickup after a Porsche Experience Center session - that's a serious detour when travelling from Glasgow!"
In between the 981S and BGTS a Macan GTS arrived here too, so we are fully committed!- 1

Out and about today - it is very noticeable that the Stop Start now actually works consistently with a new battery (all the more reason to be in Sport mode so it gets disabled! )
-
-
Took it out for a spin today.. started no problem at all.
I did that thing of using a bag of hot water to defrost windscreen - works well (better than Prestone de-icer anyway)
car cover going on tomorrow if I can stand the cold (and get rid of surface frost before the cover goes on)

So here's a bit of turn-up, and I thank @zagamuffin and others for guidance/hints and tips. My car (with new battery) is now starting
I followed guidance, and disconnected battery yesterday for about an hour, but the same pathetic 1/4 crank happened before nothing else. I recall that the helpful AA guy who replaced the battery said that on his knowledgebase system there was a few instances of similar guidance for Porsches where disconnecting battery for some period of time resolved my exact issue. Anyhoo didn't seem to work for me yesterday, but for sh1ts and g1ggles I disconnected battery late evening and left it overnight. Today I was scheduled to get the car recovered to Indy, but I called it off this morning, due to other stuff going on, and just left the car disconnected until about 20 mins ago. Took the dog out (in -2.5 weather) and thought "will try one more time" before rescheduling the pickup. And fu(k me it actually fired 1st time like it had never had an issue!
I've never been so happy to hear that 3.4 do it's thang!
Of course then I was completely scared to turn it off and try again, but I did so a few times, and all seems to be back to normal. I think I'll arrange an Indy visit to see if anything has popped up on PIWIS, just for some peace of mind.

I’m thinking , the brake pedal switch would control starting the car but also the transmission lock, ign on and foot on brake can you move selector out of park ???
Yep, ign on and Brake on I can move into N/D etc. Interesting though as the display of "Press Brake Pedal" does pop up occasionally

Completely dry.
My usual Indy is mad busy at the moment, and it'll be next week before it goes in there. I am thinking that maybe I should recover it to OPC for them to take a look.- 1

Oh dear, I did have concerns when you were getting absolutely no turn whatsoever with 11.4v. Out of interest did you try the spare key? Does it know it's in park? Is the brake light coming on when you press it?
I hope it isn't water damage but it could be the fuel pump like this
https://www.planet-9.com/threads/car-will-not-start-solution-and-a-question.249784/
Yep tried spare key, it knows it's in Park (but occasionally does ask for the brake to be pressed when it already is when trying to start). All lights operating as usual, roof operation OK, checked drains and look ok, still dry behind seats
Interesting post about the fuel pump relay..

For ref… all jump attempts have been in accordance with manual guidance and not using negative battery terminal

So I ended up using the AA of all people who have a mobile battery replacement service. Bosch battery used, conditioning of battery to car etc.
guy was really good, but issue persists. I’ve elected to keep the new battery as the old one was clearly well past sell by date as was original one. All electrics worlk, key twist tries engine but no joy. It’s very like when my 981S had drain hole issues and the VTS unit was damaged
heading to Indy soon

I also really like that shifter, but that's steep even by Porsche standards.
Mind you, if I had a 992 with that stupid braun shaver, I'd find the money to get one of these fitted for sure!
Any special/Highspec cars about

+1 on the prefer eBay/Amazon ones to the originals. When I got my car it had the OEM GT Silver case and it was in a right sorry state - looked bl00dy awful. Amazon ones now replaced it, and perfect colour match and much better all round!
