  1. IIRC,  EHIC is the native apple photo format. You will need to convert them to .jpg or similar to use images here. Not sure you can do this on your apple device or download an app. Not an apple user myself. Imgur is similar to flickr not sure if Imgur can use EHIC

  2.  I think my take on this is perhaps slightly different. My main concern buying my 986 and 987 were first and foremost, colour, interior colour and wheel style. I have a theory that people who love their options tend to be conservative on colour combinations and those who pick the most interesting colours don't bother so much with the more driving focused options.  Wheels being the exception here. Its a hard search if want the good options in colours other than black,  grey, silver with black interiors.  My 986 did not have a/c. or heated seats, or much in the way of options apart from Xenon lights. It was an interesting colour, Meridian silver, had 17" sport classic wheels and a grey interior with white dials. I loved it. So I purchased on looks not options to answer your question, and I would not have bought it had it been, say black or grey. A chance to shamelessly post a pic of my old 986.

Good shout with the interior accents - I'm rubbish with colour schemes!  I really want to get it right as it'll make all the difference.  I even have a pinterest folder for it 🤣

Thanks. I think the pinterest folder is a good idea. Lots of 356 images on Instagram too for inspiration. Ask friends and family too. Who is the snappy dresser? I'm not a fan of black on sports cars inside or out I should confess. However that's just me. The great thing with black inside it really does give unrestricted choice for your exterior. I would certainly look at the colours for the period of 356 production. I'm loving the blue from @Daboy3000 white wall tyres could enhance the retro look. Were any 356s produced with two tone paint schemes I wonder?

  5. I would certainly like to see the build. With a black interior you can have  any colour exterior I would say. A good trick will be to give the black interior nice colour accents that reflect the exterior. Seat belts, a gear knob, instrument dial faces, a little colour on the dash perhaps. 😁 Have fun.

  6. Hi @richj Autoglass did a screen for my 986 about 5 years ago. They took about a week to source the screen and I told them I was fussy so please send a good fitter, my pride and joy, and all that. Very good fitter, did a neat and tidy job. Just do check the fitter does have the right spec screen before he starts. My guy ran through the spec with me quite un-prompted to check all was good before he began. I've heard that Autoglass often fit non OEM screens but they are fine. St Gobain are OEM for Porsche.

  7. I like the first one, particularly the red interior. The mileage is not high as such,  and may have been conducted in much more mechanically sympathetic circumstances  than the lower miles car (less cold starts, more motorway miles, regular use and maintenance) Big premium on black edition 987.2. Great cars, well equipped, but I could not live with black on black, but that's just me, clearly. First car looks much better value and its been serviced at at the same OPC throughout. Although its has had five owners, one would hope it had been given a decent check over at each sale. Low mile cars can still give you a nasty surprise, rare maybe, but it happened to me, fortunately I felt I had had my moneys worth from it in enjoyment.

Or have I misunderstood what your implying

No, although by premium I really meant asking price provided said price was fair. If you discover hidden niggles, fair play, knock them down as there may be more. To some extent I 'buy' the seller as much as the car.

Was browsing AutoTrader this morning checking out the available 986 3.2 S seelection when I saw a low milage 2004 special anniverasry model.

Yep I noticed that. A case of now you see it now you don't. It was priced to sell as the add said and low miles. Incomplete service history IIRC

Any more details on the source for that just out of nothing but interest...?

Sorry, I can't direct you or give you a link. It started as a personal observation as I had always thought the single oval shaped exhaust on the Boxster, a sports car after all,  to be rather idiosyncratic, especialy given the flat six engine. About a gear ago someone posted a video here celebrating 25 years of the Boxster and it featured an interview with members of the Boxster design team and the oval exhaust was discussed. It transpired it was a feature the designers were particularly pleased with. I got the impression this was because the exhaust was designed to challenge the twin pipes concept, doing so without any detrimental effect to performance. The fact that it has stayed from 986  through to 718 suggests the designers see the oval  exhaust as a small element that underlines the Boxster's challenge to more convential sports car design.

For the record I painted the  calipers on my 987 yellow as they make a nice contrast to a blue car. Naturally, some think I'm a ceramic brake wannabee 😁

Black calipers work very well behind  silver wheels. I have seen a couple examples on cars here.

You got to compare like for like

Yep and @TROOPER88 is talking trade prices paid at auction not Autotrader consumer prices on the screen that may be well above the figure actually paid. As times marches on I fancy increasingly it will be 986 and 981 that will command the most attention from enthusiasts being the first and last examples of the 6 cylinder Boxster. The 987 prices will trail I fancy. Perhaps this is beginning to happen 😁

@Nick C good luck, you are right, the subject has been done to death but the  forum loves this question. In my experience there is no ultimate product or technique. You just need a routine that you have the time for, enjoy doing and gives a decent result. Black is the most difficult colour to keep looking tip top in my opinion. People have their favourite products but they are all quite similar in my, by some standards, limited experience. If there was something truly outstanding I fancy the forum  would have found it by now. People hate this answer.😁
