    Evening,

So if I can find someone locally with PIWIS I can then have my 987.2 re coded for front LED’s on and headlights off?

    thx

On my 987.2 you could do this in the car menus. Ignition on, DRLs. on. Sides on DLRs are off. Dipped beams on with sides,DLRs are off. My car had PDSL, not sure if that changes things.  It was just some check boxes in the car menu.

  2. IIMHO  the price of 981s has dropped  since I purchased mine 18 months ago which, all things being equal, you would expect, they are all 18 months older after all. Having sold a couple of Boxsters, in my opinion, the views here at BoXa  on value have a  tendancy to be polarised for some reason. There are plenty of  on-line options to get a price and you can ask  dealers to give you a price and see how that compares to the retail price on the forecourt. It's not rocket science, it's not mysterious. Motorway allows dealers to bid for your car, could be good. Good luck, that is a great 981.

I think and whats really bugging me is the lack of communication and them supposedly doing me a favour and giving me more than what I paid for to “get it perfect". If  Id gone in with a badly damaged bumper and expecting a full repair and respray I think Id have been perfectly happy with the job but I got more than I bargained for and its given me mixed feelings.. I guess in a month or two I probably wont give it a second thought

This, you clearly know yourself. Plus the whole pyschology of the thing will make it look worse than it is  to your eyes, mix in a bit of male ego and there you have it . . . Your a bit miffed. Have trust that they did what's best, and you picked a decent body shop, life is short. Good luck.

  4. You may want to use a battery maintainer when the car is garaged as it's a PIA if the battery goes flat as you can't open the front to get at the battery. C-TEK is a popular maintainer. They are the most expensive at around £60. Other brands available, including Aldi that are cheaper. Make sure your maintainer can handle an AGM type battery which is fitted to the 981. Just drive it as much as you can and enjoy. Winter tyres maybe?  Oh and Welcome !

  5. I would have a sports exhaust & CRUISE CONTROL, because I go places and it's dead handy for negotiating long sections of average speed cameras. Plus its a bonus on long Autoroutes through France to dial in 130kph. Those French speed cameras are very, very hard to spot. Fines for infringements are hefty if you get nabbed by French police too, apparently. 🤣

The only thing that worries me is that I will have more money in the car than I could probably sell it for?.... What do you all think?

I don't think you are alone in the situation. I think many here find pleasure in keeping an an older, unusual, fun car in decent nick. You don't get your money back on green fees or a cruise around the med.

Hmmm interesting post, my coolant cap has always been difficult to fully tighten (the one in the boot) even with some lube added to the threads. Been like this since I bought the car at 3yrs old and 7.5 miles. Not loosing any coolant at the moment, I’ll get a new cap next time I’m near my OPC. Presume they’re not too expensive even with the Porsche tax?

My new cap spins on and off easily. When you tighten the cap it should click and then stop turning, the oil filler cap is the same, so maybe try that to get a feel for the action.  In fact the cap is black but has a small blue symbol on the top, er, in a very nice shade of blue. I paid £21 plus VAT from OPC Bristol, expensive enough for a bit of moulded plastic. I expect an OPC would post a cap out to you.

  8. Replaced the coolant cap as I had had some coolant warnings which appeared false. The old cap was very stiff to turn and no longer had the "click" over tightening feature, rather like a torque wrench. The new cap went on easily and tightened correctly.  I could see no great damage to the old cap only very minor damage on a small lug on the underside.  It also came to my attention that I should set my C-TEK battery maintainer to the AGM setting as 981s have stop-start facility and are factory fitted with AGM batteries.  A friend here found his 981 a bit dead and had not used AGM on the maintainer. Yeah I know, how did we not know that 🙄

  9. I'd rather have the money in the bank and get the car serviced by my preferred garage. But I would also go colour everytime and in the scheme of things 2k is not a lot, seems a shame you are only going to do 3k miles a years though. The sports chrono is manic, I have it.  As we know its daft on the road, although I like the look of the equally daft clock things in the middle of the dash. This post has, I suspect, been quite useless to you and just repeats what others have said. Er don't you already have a sexy yellow 981 ? Don't come here for miffed missus advice whatever you do.

Before buying I’m wondering if this is a possibility to offset some of the ownership costs?

I rented a 987 out before I purchased a Boxster. The guy did a couple of VW campers too. Last time I checked out his site the Boxster had gone. He was on this site as a member too. Can't remember his name but he was in SE London, Blackheath way. Personally I think it would bring more angst and expenses than just running the car.

I have PPF and cermaic on top of that.

It's been on there 5 1/2 years with no issues.  And the lights take absolute and a huge beating from road debris.

Should I need to replace the film, I am fully aware it may take the clear "UV protection" coat off at the same time.  However a quick machine and new PPF and no-one would be the wiser. At £2000 a piece its worth trying to protect them,.

If your buying new that logic is particularly difficult to fault Patt 👍
