  1. @cozzykim thanks for the comprehensive reply, good to know, much appreciated. I'm on a little touring holiday around bits of England I have never or just briefly visited. Off to the Lincolnshire wolds tomorrow, some pleasant roads there I'm told. Then onto Cardigan in South Wales.

  2. @cozzykim ok where is the engine bay cap and what does it do exactly, never heard of this but clearly, interesting, 👍 Despite not tightening to hard in Bridport, I can not undo the water cap in the boot by hand, and I don't have a suitable wrench with me as I'm on the road. Seems to be ok though touch wood 🪵

  3. Going from a 986 2.7 to a 987.2 2.9 the clutch on the 987.2 was very heavy when purchased at 55000 miles three years and 20000 miles the clutch was still heavy but still working perfectly when I sold the car.

  4. Sorry if this has been mulled over before and I have missed it or failed to search adequately. I got a red message in the right hand instrument screen along the lines of "low coolant do not drive" which with ignition off, wait, on again turned to an amber warning, "coolant, monitor temperature while driving" So about 750 ml of coolant saw the float thing pop up, ignition on and computer says "yes" I'm good to go. Notice a bit of liquid under the car yesterday, assumed air con. Some coolant pooled under the cap when removed to top up. As I was in Charmouth at the time I rang @red rocket's go to independent Marque21 ( power of the forum) quick name drop and the car is on a ramp 90 minutes later. Result, no gushing coolant, just the odd bit of moisture in strategic locations. Prognosis coolant tank cap US (very hard to turn, does not click in place like oil cap, normal or wrong?) Quick call to Bristol OPC, new cap in the boot to fit tomorrow  Meanwhile after a top up in Bridport am now in Bangor, having enjoyed a rock steady 90c all the way. Thoughts gentlemen?? There is some web based stuff about the cap being hard to turn.

but it’s a superb car and I love it.

Given you say the 981S is a bit gutless, the steering vague, the back end unstable and the car is unreliable what do like love about it? 🤔

out of interest - and not wishing to open the "needs it vs can be done vs doesn't do anything" debate - but was the car coded/told the n previous Porsche battery or the replacement supplied by the AA had been installed?

Just wondering if the short life span of the Porsche one (vs the original) could be linked to charging characteristics ?

That an interesting sounding question Paul can you expand on that a bit ,  might be useful info for us less technical types. Thanks

I'm going to go against the consensus here and say I would prefer Crayon to Gentian, any green at all, yellow.....even possibly Guards Red

You have a red interior, how can you say that 🤣🤣🤣

Bit off topic but could not resist, pre war VW badge. Good luck with the hunt. General feeling here is service history trumps low miles.  You need to know about the IMS bearing issue. Leaks into the car from blocked roof drains fries the electric control box under pass seat. Generally speaking allow about £2000 on top of purchase price to fix niggles and get good. Other wise just buy a nice colour and cross your fingers 🤞🤣🤞🤣

  9. Nice write up. I have been along the Route Napoleon and agree it's a cracking drive. This was about thirty years ago though and I was driving an Astra estate with the family aboard . . . 😭 Have made plenty of Boxster trips to France in the last few years though, just fabulous.

  10. Had to get my 986 screen replaced because of a massive chip that became a crack. Autoglass did mine at home with an OEM screen my insurance where happy to supply. All good. The fitter was very good and I asked for him by name when I needed a new screen in my S-Max a year or so later. I hear Pilkington screens are fine if you can't get St. Gobin the OEM glass. One tip, get the fitter to double check he has exactly the right screen for your car and accessories BEFORE he takes the old one out. That was a tip the Autoglass guy gave me.

I notice this after the car been sitting for a period of time in an enclosed garage.

The above might be a contributing factor I suspect, more fun needed. Gummi should certainly help, do all my seals once a year.👍

  12. Sports Plus is wasted unless you track the car, it's fun once or twice on the road but manic as it revs each ratio to the redline under even modest acceleration.   PDLS (head lights) would be much more useful.

In other cars I've had this has indicated a faulty ABS sensor

Indeed, this was diagnosed as the fault on my daughter's Audi TT yesterday, the traction light kept popping on. Not sure of the precise cost yet as there are some other minor bits being done. Had the same myself on another car too.

Just to counter @Paul P's opinion I prefer the Porsche lettering so long as it follows the curve of the boot lid.

DIfferences of opinion just shows there is no right/wrong way...

My lettering also came from eBay with a template.

That looks good. The 981 has the lettering and the Boxster logo which looks way to busy for me. Not sure it bothers me so much I'll get around to moving one or t'other, but I suspect for me it will be the letters. As you say no right or wrong on this one. I just love a red Boxster too.
