    Problem solved!

2 new before cat sensors fitted.

Bad news is that the existing sensors were rusted into the cat pipes.

Good news is that the new stainless manifolds have 2 sensor bosses in each so used these.

initial 4 mile test run, all okay.

Booked in for full geo and mot on Friday. All fingers crossed!

They are buggers to get out. When I replaced the cats on mine, @bally4563 used his induction heater to try and loosen them, but they still ripped the threads up coming out and new ones were required.

Good luck for the MOT🤞 Hope you can get out and drive it soon.

  2. If you are measuring all the current the battery is using then it won’t be draining the battery with 150mA. Might be worth taking the battery out, charging it up on the bench, disconnect it and then see if it then self discharges over a couple of days. Maybe the new battery is faulty? At least useful to eliminate this possibility first before changing anything else out.

  3. I would definitely get the bypass done first and see if that is enough for you before getting a Toyosport back box or similar. I like mine, but I’m a hooligan and don’t do track days with noise limits. You did well getting a 2003 3.2 for £6k👍

40 mins this morning made significant improvement, compared to three hours struggling the day previous. Hence reiterate best just walk away sometimes, come back with a fresh head!

If you need another pair of hands, just say. I can bring my filler foam🙂

The reason I was asking is as there seems to be a correlation between those who have the tube type headers plus Toyo type exhaust and don’t experience drone - my thinking being that the differing total pipe length and pulse timing moves the drone out of the 2.5-3k range

I’ve got both and the resonance is still there at 2.7k, but not too intrusive. It was very loud when first fitted and made trips through town embarrassing if I needed to move off fast, but it soon toned down. Great for a weekend car, but not a daily driver.

Bizarrely, i have had quotes for F&T that were larger than fully comp.....

Fairly common apparently due to selection bias, i.e. the group selecting TPF&T have an higher risk profile than the group selecting fully comp. This more than covers the reduced costs of claims to a likely quite cheap car.

I've only had mine since October and it was an impulse buy, to replace my kit car. I just like driving; weekend day blats, week-long road trips etc and the kit car is great for that but the Porsche is even better, mainly because of the practically as my 55-year old bones get lazier.

However, that practicality costs and I can't afford to keep the kit car and the Boxster, so one is going in May or so. At the moment, the Boxster is the keeper but I built the kit car myself and it costs peanuts to keep it running (£200 insurance, Ford parts, £250 road tax, 30 mpg)...really not sure what to do.

I've got a road trip booked in April and May; kit car in April, Porsche in May...final decision after that, I think.

I had this dilemma with my Spitfire. I’d rebuilt it from the chassis up 20 years ago and it only cost insurance of £100 to run and I used to use it to commute the 3 miles to work, but I left work and in the end I just wasn’t using it because it’s not very practical and the thought of trying to get in the very low seat made my back ache. It was either let it rot on my driveway or sell it and get something I could use. Which I did when I bought the Boxster. Never regretted it for a second.

  8. I’ve had mine 7 years and done lots of work to it, but it’s getting to the point where I probably need to spend a fair bit to get it back to A1. New rear tyres, condensers, sort out cabin leak, ABS light has just come on. However it also has a rust spot under the air intake and some fairly serious rust going on underneath on the chassis members which I’ve cleaned up, but they’ll go again. For this reason, I’m pretty sure it won’t make it into next year.

I was going to buy a 981, but having driven @bally4563’s 981S, I think it’s too much of a change to make in one go and by chance I have a mate who’s looking to move his 987.2 on this year, so this seems like the obvious next move.

  9. Presumably the 3rd party has given you their insurance details and are likely to admit fault to their insurer?

Two choices, firstly claim off your own policy if you are happy with who they will get to do the work. If the 3rd party admit fault you probably won’t have to pay any excess as insurer will recover.

Second choice is to approach 3rd party insurer direct for a settlement. They will need estimates from your preferred repairer and may give you a cash sum in lieu of car hire while it’s repaired. Downside is you cannot complain to the Ombudsman if you are unhappy with the work done (unlikely if you choose the garage)

There’s always the outside chance they write it off if they suspect further damage behind the bumper such as the heat shields as bits like this can be suprisingly expensive from Porsche, but seems unlikely in your case.

    Good luck.

It’s funny when you really start digging rear wishbones are starting to delaminate , so guess that’s next job ! One thing is as always any car I own will be right, selling on will never be a issue for a prospective purchaser

That’ll be a bit spendy, or are they available aftermarket now?

    Why?

I have been infected with a bug and feels that I want to own a Corvette, most if not all are import. What is the problem? Please explain.

    Thanks

I think the issue will be the potential loss of history when you import a car. Once imported, it’s given a new identity, so details of insurance status may be lost. There were a lot of flood damaged cars after the tsunami in Japan and I wonder if many found their way abroad? This uncertainty results in a discount against a U.K. car.

Different with the Corvette as I assume most will be imports so no U.K. cars to compare against plus the LHD thing.

Also because D911 cocked the order up , sent me 10 lt of clutch fluid  and a gasket set! £270 no oil pan or diff oil

On return of 5lt of clutch fluid and gasket set, they have sent me the aluminium motor sport oil pan and 3 lt of diff oil , they have organised the return of wrong items and no additional cost to me !!

Any reason you didn’t get them from Porsch Wilmslow? I thought the OEM only stuff was cheaper there?

Not overly dirty , nothing on the sump pan magnets , can only be a tick regarding preventative maintenance?!

Did you change the sump and filter?

555 timer - wow that instantly brought back some memories, it was a cute little chip as well.  I used it in an electronic chicken college project.

Aaah... and many a happy day spent with a BC108 which seemed to be the default choice for a lot of projects.

It’s all coming back to me now, using the BC108 as a driver for a led as you couldn’t drive one direct from most logic chips. It was a real disappointment to find there was none of that fun in degree level electronics, just lots of indecipherable maths🙁

  15. A friend has a 981 with a flat battery, so can’t open the frunk. I’m going to jump from the fuse box to open it and get to the battery. Any hints on how to jump start it, remove battery to charge it? I seem to remember you should connect earth to the body somewhere rather than the battery terminal? Can you charge it with the battery connected? This works on my 986. @ATM you seem to be the expert in swapping batteries😀

Just get one with PSE you don't want to compromise on this.

I’m aware that PSE is currently not available to retrofit at the moment. Is there any downside to fitting an aftermarket exhaust and mapping to get the pops and bangs. It would be great to find a car with PSE, but it would severely limit the options, particularly at the lower end of the market and on the 2.7.

Thought you said you’d prefer higher mileage 15….so you picked a lowish mileage 12😜

if you are around over the Christmas period I can come over and we can go for a drive in mine and I’ll talk you through the extras mine has so you have an idea of what’s what (thought I suspect you know most of it).

I’m around after Boxing Day till new year - though weather does look great, but let me know if you fancy.

Thank Wayne, it will be good to meet up, we’ve missed you on the peaks runs. I’ll text you nearer the time.

I was playing on Autotrader to see what difference mileage made and this one really stood out of the current crop. There seems to be a big drop off in price between 80 and 100k, but selling on will always be an issue with over 100k, but if I get it for the right price and it’s a keeper then it won’t matter. Nothing seems to be shifting at the moment, so be interesting to see what happens to prices in the new year.

  18. Might take a look at this in the new year, sport design wheel, 20” wheels, PDLS, nice colour. Is parktronic some sort of camera system for parking? Not PSE, but can look at a retrofit. Plenty of life left at only 45k and two owners, so would be easy enough to resell if I wanted to go back to a 986. Not sure on the interior, probably have to see that in the flesh. Any thoughts?

    I’ve had similar experiences😉
