    wired in factory heated seats

Did you post this on one of the Facebook groups as well? If so, I meant to message you for details and that person mentioned they were an auto electrician, so I am assuming a fully working installation?

There is someone on here who fitted 986 heated seats and didn’t find them very warm. I am sure any contributions here would be appreciated.

The transmission mounts look a little done for to be honest so I'm sourcing some replacements from eBay. Might as well sort that out whilst we're in there.

What sort are you going for? Tpye911 do some good value rubber ones. I fitted them on my 996

  3. Thanks for posting that. Very enjoyable, both the content and for some reason, when I watched the embedded video, it didnt interrupt with adverts but when I looked on YouTube directly, adverts straight away.

@phazed Don't watch this re the ECU repair - <£500.....

  4. If you with the blue tooth adapter, wire to a switched feed. Otherwise it’s permanently live and your phone can randomly connect to it. Especially if your garage is integral to the house..

Also, if you have an apple phone and use Bluetooth, set up the Bluetooth connection type to something not called headphones or apple will turn down your phone for you when you exceed what it determines an acceptable period of volume.

You can say that again. After establishing that my newly acquired S costs almost 3 times as much in annual car tax than my extremely comprehensive insurance policy (big hand for Carole Nash) and materially more than my Scirocco daily hack that does 4x the mileage, I will admit that I have parked my otherwise extremely transparent approach to Boxster costs I’ve been adopting with my wife.

Hopefully, yours is not a 2006 car or it would be 5 times the cost! approx £700!

helped by a different throttle body on the RS60...anyone know?

Its nothing to do with the throttle body. Its down to how much the road tax is. More road tax equals more torque apparently..

  7. Hi, you’re a local to me. If you need a code reader, I have one although if you have changed the IMS yourself, that is the limit of the help I can probably offer 😀

there are a couple of relatively local groups as well. One meets at the Moat Wrotham every month and had a good turnout this morning but only a handful of Boxsters. They do other events further down in Kent each month as well.
There is the Surrey porkers or something similar to that and that is all Boxsters and meets most Sundays but that is typically 25/30 miles and requires an early start and I mostly fail to set the alarm..
There is also a group called legends drivers club and they arrange things most months and at least once a month at Westerham Brewery.

  8. There is a Facebook group called Torque Boxsters run by someone on here. He has cars for sale from time to time and has a good reputation for the work he does on people cars and I would expect him to buy good cars from and check them over before selling on. Worth looking up. I would tag him but can’t remember his username!

  9. to me, how long the person has had the car is important. If they have had it a while, look at what they have spent on maintenance and servicing in that time and recently. Even if it has been DIY, they should have receipts for parts. They are old cars and there are no guarantees but I would always take regular maintenance over no maintenance!

there are just 2 heating elements wired in series that end up with 2 wires going to the CU unit.  Hope that makes sense.

Thinking about this, doesn't connecting the elements in series increase the resistance compared with in parallel if connecting 4 down to 2? I have this memory of light bulbs being brighter wired in parallel than in series. Assuming brighter could also mean hotter, it might explain your lower than anticipated temperatures?

@TV8, on the 986 seats you are correct there are 4 heater connections, 2 for the base and 2 for the backrest.

Every day is a school day! Thank you.

Are you trying to fit 987 heated seats into a 986?  I think you should be able to do this quite easily if you were to use the 986 CU, switches and wiring.

Did you have the parts details you used here please? It sounds like the output would be on 4 heaters and the 987 seats only have a single connector.

You may want to start another thread if you are serious about getting the 987 heated working in a 986, as others may benefit from the details.

it started with another question but hopefully covers it -

0.8 Ohm is for each heating element, base and back

Do you have 4 heater connection terminals with 2 on the base and  on the back? I only have two, at least as far I can see?

Anyway, it seems like they are working correctly although not sure what sort of thermostat would be fitted. Timer maybe?
When I was thinking about this earlier, I was expecting there to be a variable resistance added to change the load and you have a constant load. I was expecting a higher wattage and if it was 55w, that is exactly the rating of a headlight bulb. I would be trying the two settings on a bulb to see what happens!
    Good luck

The control unit is part of the under seat heated wiring loom.  Looks like a relay, but has Pic inside with some other electronics to monitor the temps.

You mentioned the seats have a resistance of 0.8 ohm. My 987 seats have a resistance of 1.3 ohm.

Using the law of ohm V=IR.

Assuming V is 12v and as we have different resistances, we would see different currents in the circuit for our respective seats. Assuming the seat resistance is fixed (my seats have two terminals), the current has to be controlled somehow and must be also measurable at the output of the control unit? With the two settings on the switch, I would be looking for a difference between settings and if possible, absolute values for each with the ammeter in series to the circuit for the current.

The 986 heated seats also have 2 stage heating, press once for high heating and a second for low heating.  The switches have LEDS that glow red and orange.

I have just discovered that. Thank you.

You're all over the threads! I had to go and find it...

There a few threads on this subject at the moment. Thank you for looking as I couldn't remember it! That is the summary video and I skipped that and probably explains why I didnt remember it :)

I watched the individual ones with each of the stages and on the one with the switches he modifies the switch, presumably to work with the many relays and diodes.

I have just checked the manual (trying to remember how to switch off the traffic announcements that have appeared on the radio since I disconnect the battery!) the standard switches are indeed dual setting and have red (high), orange (low) and off-settings.  The off setting comes from clicking the LED side of switch, which is the only working side in the modified wiring in these videos.

the video you posted of the 986 showed they were two stage also.

My 9x7 seats support two stage heating and this is linked to the ecu or some ecu linked controller.  I think, the 9x6 switches are single versions, ie on or off and reset to off with ignition or power disconnect.
if you mean the video of the seats into the 986, I haven’t made it to the end of that yet. I decided to instal and sort the heating later. If it was a different one, can you remind me which was it was please?

I’ll put one together, not difficult to do if you buy the seats with heating elements already fitted.

Thanks. The retro fit I have seen (I think on here) had a two stage switch. The standard switches are, I think, one stage. Perhaps you are not activating all of the heater if it is not hot enough?
