I know that feeling when you just wished you’d left it alone. Enjoy the Gin🎉
Thanks, yeah, I wish I hadn't bothered, it's not like they desperately needed doing.😔

In the last few weeks I have got it's MOT sorted, considered SORNing it but haven't after a few drives out for food shopping, including today, 5°c in the sun, roof down, even a wave from an R8 driver!
Quick wash and vacuum out when back and I go and ruin it all by thinking I'll replace the boot lid struts that are starting to fail, that'll be a quick and easy job!
Cue one of the little clips being an absolute bastard, a slip of the screwdriver and a scratch. I'm mortified. Off to drown my sorrows in gin.

@Sazzy - just to let you know that this guide was a massive help for a friend who was working through hood alignment problems. They’re fixed now
Thank you.
Oh fantastic, I'm so pleased this is still out there being useful to people

I would definitely check for leaks. If the cats were kaput it should show on the rear lambdas.
The tester said the cats are ok as the HC and CO readings were ok?

An update on mine. Went for a retest today. Before which I did 70 odd miles, nice and hot, the old Italian tune up, even bunged a bottle of Wynnes fuel additive in. The result? Even worse !!!!!!! Lambdas now reading 1.06.
No garage will look at it for me as they're all winding up for Christmas.
No wonder I drink a lot of wine. 😖😢

Someone has recommended Cataclean to me but you need to put it in on 1/4 of a tank and the car is over 3/4 full. Typical. I can't exactly drive it around for the next few days to empty it out grr.

Looks to me like it only just failed on the lambda where the limit is 1.03 for both 2.7 and 3.2. Be interesting to compare with last years result. Replace the sensor first
Last year it went through on 1.03 but it had failed first time on the 2nd fast idle, I only know this though because it's on my car app. I never actually got a fail cert (which I think they are supposed to give to you also) so they must've done something to get it through.
I had a reoccurring CEL at the time on bank 2. Replacing the pre cat 02 sensor sorted that and the light has never come on since. If the other one needed replacing would it throw the light again?

Load up a photo of the emissions test sheet.

I hope others can take a look. Did the tester say they'd tried to get you a pass or did they just hand you a fail?
Just handed me the fail cert

@Sazzy can you post the data off the emissions report? Some more expert members might be able to interpret to give you a better idea. A good Italian tune up (deliberately push the revs and hold higher revs with a good throttle opening) to get all the sensors and cat surfaces hot prior to an MOT can often help if it is only a marginal pass/fail. Otherwise could be MAF sensor (Bosch £150 new, or second hand for about £30 on eBay, only 2 screws but you need a hollow tip Torx bit to get them out) if not may be the other O2 sensor? Don't assume cats are shot at this stage.
@Clivescoobydo the 986 is not a lead burner or you will have shot cats....
Hi ok so ....
Lambda 1.04
HC 5
CO 0.08
C02 14.9
02 0.91
I won't pretend to understand all this. 😒

Not good sounds like a new cats required 😬 Perhaps the Governments tightened the rules in trying to get the lead burners off the road.....
God I hope not I can't afford that now so close to Christmas 😪

Sorry to hear that Sazzy......was it properly warmed up? Same place as last year? Did it marginally pass last time?
It was warm and went straight in for its test.
Different place though, the place I took it to last year wanted it for 8am and had it all day which meant it was cold. Only scraped through last year on the second go. I put it down to it being cold and a known faulty 02 sensor which has since been replaced.
I know it doesnt have any exhaust leaks as Cotswold confirmed that only 2 months ago. So all a bit of an unwelcome surprise 😔

Took it for it's MOT. Failed on emissions 😞

Gave it a good proper wash! Too nice a day not to.

The key thing is how does it drive? Better than before? Its very hard to get them all in the green. GT One couldn't with mine after a suspension refresh but it was lightyears better to drive and my tyres which were new have worn evenly.
It's better yes, I wouldn't say night and day but does feel more planted. Front tyres is my next job. They were worn excessively on the inside edge on the front which at least was explained today by the toe being way off.

Wheel alignment today after some front suspension work. Does this look ok now?

Alternatively call Dean at Eporsch. Spyder is run from there by Dean.
Ahh that's even more reassuring! Always good to have recommendations for these things.

They are helpful and quick to reply, even on a Sunday when I sent a message, and if you buy two bundles like I did (Front coffin arms and tuning forks bundle and then a pair of coffin arms) they will refund one of the postage costs if you ask. If it says in the Spyder shop the bits are for a 986 then they will fit your car.
That's good to know. I need front coffin arms and bump stops.

I know @Deano37 has replied but here is their main eBay link to help others:
Thank you.
Now to wonder why Ebay thinks none of their parts will fit my vehicle. Looks like I'll have to contact them with my reg to be sure.

Cut a drop link on the rear, found it turned with a breaker bar first time 😀, rain stopped play..... ☹️
Hi, do you have a link to spyder performance on ebay? I've tried and tried to find them but I can't?! Thanks

What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

I took it to a different place, he was super helpful, chucked a bottle of Cataclean in (so that was 3 bottles of cleaner in the tank in total with the 2 I'd already put in) and took it up the A30. Passed on the lambda reading being at 1.01
