Nope! Standard 2004 986 S. I'll live within the zone come 2021(Wandsworth) so looks like I'll need to upgrade the car in the next year or so!

Still don't get why my car is non-compliant when identical spec year older ones are not!

Anyone else on here have an '04 986 S and fancies checking if their car is compliant on the site?

    Well I have a 2004 986 non s and it says it's fine

Hi, @Sazzy. Just giving this a bit of a bump as I may need to tackle it this week. What adhesive did you use to put all of this back together? I saw mention of Loctite for the small bit of piping, but would that work for the whole job? Or did you get something more specialised? Thanks!

Hiya I didn't need to use anything, there is a lot of adhesive and it's very sticky. It all just went back together fine and has been ok ever since.

Low beer warning light was on in the fridge at lunchtime so nipped out to local petrol station to get some. Decided to stash it in the pockets behind the seats as did not get a bag. Whilst rumaging around, I found several coins which had fallen down and lodged beside the seat runner. Turned out to be 5.50€ likely lost by me, a 20 pence from the second owner in UK and a 20 pfennig from the first owner who resided in Germany. Germany fully switched to the Euro in 2002 so this pfennig has sat there for at least 16 years! A good haul which more than covered the beer costs!

I always forget these pockets behind the seats exist! And then the one time I did put something in them I 'lost' it for a week, as again I forgot they exist!

For no good reason, this is something that concerns me after seeing mention of similar somewhere. As mine's cracking on a bit I'm worried my roof/clamshell may stick.

Is there a quick fix to get yourself mobile, or is it a proper knowledge, spanner and time job?

I don't think there's a quick fix as such. Depends on the fault. If the clamshell is stuck up you could pop off the push rod arms and manually push it down.

It seemed odd though as it seems more common that it's one side that fails being the cable or rods or whatever, leaving the clamshell crooked and raised higher on one side than the other.

Maybe his motor had gone and he'd managed to manually close the roof so he could at least latch it.

  5. Saw a bloke in a 986 on the dual carriageway but something didn't look right. As I got nearer I saw his roof was up but the clamshell was also up at the highest point! I felt like shouting 'I can fix that for ya mate' as I overtook him. ?

Edited to add I did feel sorry for him?

I'll bet a packer of Jaffa cakes that the sticker will not be a facsimile of the picture shown.

However it will be perfect for your situation.

Well I finally got around to ordering this an no, not perfect but not as bad as I thought it would be...!

They even go to the length to make a fake Porsche parts sticker ?

@Sazzy I think the 986 and 987 badges are different, I wonder if an inappropriate badge was fitted, either the old or new one and the pins were in different places. A thought.

A good thought at that. I'm not sure about the 986 v 987 but the one it has on it is definitely wrong, it's an old style one for cars up to 1994. That's why I wanted to get the proper (shiny!) one on it.

I lined it up with the new one and the pins are in the same place though. It's gotta be 'cos someone just bunged it on any old how with a ton of glue. Still not decided what I'm gonna do about it long term.

In reply to Sazzy - Or snap the pins off the new badge, and get some strong double sided tape cut to the rear of the badge and re-attatch it where the glue marks are. It'll bug you otherwise I'm sure but can be remedied.

I am thinking of this but I can't stand the thought of breaking the pins off a new badge! :stun::stun:

Strange!  They should only fit in one place as far as I know.   Can you put the old one back on for now?

Or get the glue off with some solvent and polish the area up a bit...

I've got all the glue off, polished and t cut it but sadly the paint is no more! I always thought it looked like the badge sat lower than on other cars, now I know why. Nothing is ever simple with this car. ?

I've stuck the old one back on with double sided tape as the bloody pins broke off removing that one too! They are very fragile.
