What's stopping that badge from fitting where the old one was incidentally? Has it got locating legs?

I think what's happened is the previous owner glued a badge on without the pins. The pins were in the holes but I think they'd snapped off from a previous badge. I bet they'd had it stolen.

  2. Finally got hold of a new bonnet badge. Went to remove the old one, stuck fast with a thick layer of glue!! Got it all off, took paint with it, not the end of the world I thought as new badge will cover it.

Fitted new one and it doesn't sit in the same place! Now im left with a right mess.

Help!!! What would you do? Absolutely gutted, right before Beaulieu. ???

  3. Washed car and roof and re proofed roof with Autoglym kit.

Had a tentative go with the clay bar I got for my birthday last week. Never used one before, so watched some you tube vids, hope I did it right!  Only got half the car done but wow what a difference!

Well done on the fix it looked a right mess, you must be a bit chuffed at sorting that ???

Thanks alot, main thing is I've saved myself a fortune which I wouldn't have been able to shell out for right now as I've just forked out for a major service and plugs. I just hope it's ok as my Porsche paranoia is at 99.9% ! :stun:

  5. Fixed my roof! Well 99% and it's the best it's going to be. 2hrs of trying to align perfectly the left side to the right was an absolute nightmare, every mm makes a difference.

It's not perfect but I don't think it can be as things went a bit out of shape.

Be nice to actually get a roof down drive in this weather now! Fingers crossed!

  6. Started my roof fix, 2hrs resulted in all the right side dismantled, the old drive cable out and new one fitted. Gear mechanism aligned but ran out of time to do anymore. Bentley manual so helpful but it's not horrifically complicated.

This is what my mashed up cable looked like ! ?

There's definitely a YT video of two blokes straightening the clamshell. If you do need more info I could post some of the relevant chapters from the Bentley manual if it helps.

    Good luck!

Thanks that's very kind, I'll shout you if I get stuck!

You're right, it's not that bad a job to do, just a bit fiddly.  I had it happen to mine last summer when miles from home and had to disconnect it from the ball joints before slowly driving it home.

The Bentley manual was very detailed in showing how to replace the cable and resetting the drive gearbox if you need to. I also had to straighten the clamshell with my OH's help which had become slightly bent as a result of twisting and wouldn't sit right after replacing the drive cable.

    Hope you get it sorted!

Thanks, I was lucky it happened at home although before I was taking it out in the sun...

I don't have the Bentley manual sadly, but there's a bit about it in the 101 projects book and hopefully some YouTube vids.

Jeez hope it hasn't damaged the paint. Why do think it failed?

No paint damage thankfully, I'm not sure, but looking online it doesn't seem to be an uncommon fault for these cables to fail over time.

Yikes!  What’s the plan to fix that?

Will ring OPC tomorrow and order a cable. I don't think refitting the cable looks too bad, it's going to be getting everything perfectly re aligned that's going to be a challenge.

Supposed to be driving to Sussex in it on Thursday eve so looks like that won't happen now.

Is that a broken drive cable caused that?

Yep, absolutely sheared off. There was a disturbingly loud bang as the left hand side came off of it's runner! Was an absolute nightmare to remove the clamshell as just couldn't get access on the right hand side and at that point I didn't know what was wrong

  11. Best weather so far this year, long drive planned, go to put the roof down and it breaks again. ? Spend ages stuck in BH traffic to go to Halfords, Screwfix and anywhere else we could find open to buy the stupid little nut. No one has it. Bodged it, went out for about 15 miles.

Think the OH is finally running out of patience with it (as am I )

Going to sit and drink wine in the garden ...?

:) yes I aim to be Incredibly tactful ?

I have just realised there is a whole bunch of new emoticons available on the forum - at least on my laptop browser!  Forum software update I presume... there are even skin tones which is interesting - I don't think I have seen that option before!

Thank you for your tact haha

They are the same ones as Watsapp smileys ?

So long as it's just a dent and paint is okay should be cheap and easy fix. Probably too far for you but I've used DentPusher in the past with superb results. He comes to me at work - depending on damage normally £40-50 per dent. Very nice bloke too, Steve. You should be able to find someone as good locally.

Send a copy of the invoice to your brother as a nice little keepsake.

Thanks, he looks good, shame he doesn't cover this area.
