Just done these on my 987.2, went for the spyder arms, seem decent quality. Definitely order the bolt kit too. I got the 1st one out no bother and wondered what all the fuss was about, then the remaining 3 were seized solid. Whoever thought steel bolts into alloy bushes was a good idea needs a bloody good shake.

I've heard only good things about the arms Spyder Performance stock in & their service. Thanks for the tip on the bolts. I am going to be doing this to my car but hoping I can make it a next winter job.

  2. I will keep my car as long as possible it's proved itself as a unbelievable drive & I can't seem to see what upgrades a 981/718 offer myself.

Insurance hikes have meant that I now have multi cover and throwing that through my business kinda makes it less of a blow.

Tax increases I can't do anything about but I think when you're somebody forever in the petrol station filling a van you don't mind a tank of the good stuff for a day out in the car.

I also in my mind and feel free to disagree but I find the 986/987/981 are all at the stages of work required. If it hasn't already been done it's near due (not claiming any specific jobs here) but even the early 981's have crossed over the ten year point. So for me I think that notion of moving up a model because it's newer just doesn't really have that appeal.

The car I crave would be a 981 GTS but they seem more problematic than my car and seen as they're about £40k more than I paid for my car (from the main stealer) no thank you!

Not sure about the wet but here we had recent feedback more than once that an N0 was horrible but the N1 was much improved.

I can't argue there, I would definitely recommend other brands over these but appreciate people with warranty get stuck having to use specific tyres.

Depends how you drive I guess. I get about 20% of the life span some claim on the forum.

Just seen one of these parked down my street in silver and I can’t believe how ugly it is at the front😱. That huge wide opening beneath the number plate looks odd. Much prefer the muscular look of the 981 GTS. I’ve told the wife to take it off my Christmas list😀

I think if the inner plastic trim was painted body colour & number plate plinth lowered it would look loads better!

  5. Camskill seem to be the best place to buy tyres from supply only. Nobody can really touch their prices.

Kumhos are exceptionally good tyres they do however lack rim protection almost seating flush to the rim edge, while other manufacturers like Michelin, Bridgestone, Contis etc have a better sidewall design to keep stones etc from smashing the side of the wheels.

Looking at reviews the PS71 is the grippier of the two tyre options.

P-Zeros are horrible in the wet. A tyre I will never run again. Goodyears are great but seem to gradually get harder/ lose their edge. Something myself & others have found, I think you've made a sensible decision for the type of driving you do Mick 👍

Just had a  Carnewal  replacement on mine and there is no evidence of splitting the box just the pipe from the manifold to the back box has new welds And having several of these with a valve, spent more time underneath freeing them off personally forget valves go down the Carnewal , mine sounds great without all the hassle maintaining … just saying !

Can you install the PSE function on your car i.e having the button & software without having the vacuum lines/valves. Thus getting the crackles & pops?

If so I feel you would have the best of both worlds.

It will not work fully  overnight. It's a slow acting but long lasting biocide. Read the instructions.

I have so far applied two coats to the roof just straight onto the dry roof. Then given it a wash today after the run (all the greeness actually came straight off) and I applied another coat over the area between the glass and clamshell just to cover myself.

I'm actually really happy with how easy that was.

  8. @CliveHfitted a Carnewal to his (987 BE) and it sounded really good. I think it's a good sweet spot of not being too over the top but giving the driver a nice sound track which is in my mind what is most important.

  9. Porsche Sheffield quoted me £360 for the cross over pipe kit & the two rubber pipes further up the system (because I had a leak on these it bumped the price up £95. This didn't include the plastic manifolds.

Spyder Performance are cheaper for just the crossover pipe repair kit and looking at the genuine stuff it can't be much different in quality. To DIY the job it's probably £300 they don't stock or supply the other pipes I needed.

Apparently it's uncommon for the pipes to fail where mine did I've circled them on this image.

  10. I just had mine done via Porsche & Euro in Barnsley.

This included the cross over pipes, the feed and return pipes (under the engine) & a brake fluid flush and change and it was basically the same as Moneypit.

    All genuine Porsche parts 👍

  11. I've heard mixed reviews regarding Unique Porsche & a forum friend who I drive with found they couldn't diagnose a problem that he had already pointed out to them.

Hartech Porsche have really good reviews.

I think the guys with the best rep around that area seem to be Loe Bank.

Also if you're this close, get on a Dales run in the spring time 😀

  12. I am really excited to see what you get Rob.

I can't help from not owning one but I can say that PDK is amazing and such a step up from your Tip I would opt for a car with the right spec rather than gearbox if you find you're not fussed either way.

I also would point out as somebody that drives in similar manner to you that I likely would drop into a 2.7 if I upgraded to a 981. Just because my driving style is high revs rather than using the mid range torque so I think you're making the best decision.

For me the seats in a 981 are far superior than a 986 even standard and they will hold you so much better than the 986 even without the wings. I would point out that @CMA turned up to a run in Ripon once (SCITP) and his seats weren't leather and to touch felt a bit poor so leather seats Rob.

Personally I'd avoid PASM & PADM (Chrono, you still get sport mode as standard and can have Chrono without the PADM installed if you wanted for track).

20" wheels look the best and fill the arches nicely.

Looks at the market you're not far off the right budget for a nice car but I'm thinking you're going to have to stretch some more.

Problem is coding it out to remove the error on the dash as that would be an MOT fail these days. Then coding it out you'd presumable have to loose the Sports+ mode on the gearbox changes as they may be too brutal for a normal mount to cope with and all the other bits that Sports+ gives you. No idea if any of that's possible but I looked when mine went and couldn't see any easy options to code out just PADM, things may have changed now though.

987.2 doesn't have fancy mounts it's no harsher using sport+

Porsche offer aftermarket Chrono installs for cars without the factory option so it can't be impossible or difficult & an example Cotswold Porsche have installed Chrono to plenty of cars that didn't already have the option so that would be a good specialist to go to. Delete and reinstall if needs be.

  14. Chipping in and I know I am in the minority here but I would genuinely just replace them for standard gearbox mounts and code PADM out.

It's too much of a headache, I remember @Greenman missing out on a summer's worth of antics due to waiting on stock (that's going back a few years).

I appreciate some on here still have extended warranty so that's not an option. It is something that puts me off a 981 (with chrono).

  15. RPM are good eggs it could be worth dropping them and email to see where they think it should be price point wise and as you've kept using them for maintenance they might even offer to sell the car for you(edit not for free obviously) or give you an offer for it.

Like you already know the tyre kicking will be brutal, I actually agree 6-7k is probably right for the spec and milage when you could spend the difference and get something with almost 100k less on the clock. Yes the engines are good & your car looks to have had a very good service history I can't see WBAC not trying it on and dropping that 8500 down.
