I would try get the car back up on a ramp ideally a 4 post and check the rear sub frame. On my 986 a section of my rear frame had cracked right through causing my car to pull to the left under load sounding very similar to your situation.

Luckily this is just a bolt on part of the suspension setup and you can get them pretty easily new/used.

Image below, hard to find! You need to take the weight off the wheels and ideally have someone pulling each wheel while you inspect.

Just to add to this post the weight of the car closed in the crack making it very hard to find as a fault. I had to send my mechanic out to on the industrial estate to give my car some welly and get the cams kicked in for him to really feel the car under load.

He's since found this on other 986's so it's more common than you'd think.

  3. Looks great I liked the silver wheels just because you see too many folk going black/red.

As previously commented the car looks guards red in the photos which I think looks ace with silver wheels. Looks sleek now! Looks a bit nicer weather up there than down here 😅

  4. Absolutely beautiful motor Rob & interesting points about the Spyder. I think it looks great with the silver wheels also!

How many 981's is that now? 5?

All of your cars have looked great in my opinion but as above that's probably the most special colour for a 981 GTS.

& You've made me miss those roads 😭😂

IMHO people are attracted to the GTS as a model in its own right with a bit more exclusivity, hence the price hike. Alternatively, you could just as well recommend buying a 2.7 car with a great spec and Ooooh, look at the money you have saved. :)

I'm not sure where you draw the line - buy an MX5 and save a fortune whilst saying 'Don't understand why people spend fortunes on a Porsche when they should buy an MX5.

Well my point still stands quite clearly that if you didn't favour the GTS interior you can buy a £30,000 car with the same Chassis, Engine, Gearbox, Options, Interior & add on the design package via the OPC for £3050.00.

Literally you're driving around in the same car without the word GTS on it for £15k- £20,000 less.

    I don't see how that's comparable to owning the 2.7 or an MX5 🤔

I see the exclusively & absolutely love the GTS range. It's not a dig the market is just nuts the 718 4.0 range have just swooped in and pulled up the 981 Spyder & GTS prices back up to what we were seeing when these cars were new.

The 987.2 market is as crazy.

Out of interest, why is a GTS with leather inferior to one with alcantara, and why would it take longer to sell? Not everyone wants alcantara and if something is taking too long to sell then it's the price that's wrong, not the spec.

I'd also argue that a £30k+ "S" with some after-market pieces added to make it look like a car that it isn't doesn't necessarily add any value, but it does satisfy the current owner's personal tastes. Indeed, the fact it's been modified might put people off because not everyone wants a GTS diffuser / front end / 718 PCM on a 981. It'll never actually be a GTS or a 718, it's a 981 S with a body kit and a different sat nav. And the current owner is very happy with it and has enjoyed the process of modifying it themselves because that's their hobby. If we could take a £30k car, spend £3-4k on modding it and then sell it at "circa £40k" then I'm in the wrong game.

If I stick a crocodile on my M&S jumper it doesn't make it a Lacoste jumper. If I had a silver 986 and put a different exhaust trim on it, it doesn't make it an Anniversary. It's a standard 986 with a different exhaust trim on it.

My point was made based on cars that are or have been for sale recently. One of which was a mediocre spec 981 S with the sport design package which sold for 40k against higher spec cars without that package selling for £30-33k. A front bumper just simply sold the car.

I also based the interior on other replies to this thread with those points being made. There's about 4 GTS's that have sat on auto trader with the leather interior which are all great cars while other GTS models with the GTS interior have just kept coming off weekly.

I don't see why owning a GTS with standard interior is somehow better than owning an S with the design pack and same spec for 15bhp, some door sills & a rear badge for a £15k price difference however, if it's basically the design package that's selling them to the buyers which was my point.

People don't want to take on projects they just want to buy and drive.

I could stick a smiley face on my reply but it still won't make you happy 😬

Sports design front was done for about £1200 including the radiator prep work, with my own labour. This doesn't include painting the front end which I would have done at some point anyway as the bumper had the usual 981 chips.

Worth every penny and now with the pcm4 and upgraded 718 chassis components it's just right.

Thanks for that! Watched the video last week of the front end. Worth knowing about that additional bracket.

  8. The biggest point made here is the interior being special. Obviously as loads of people already have fitting the gts diffuser to a standard 981 is very inexpensive & Porsche offer on their website a price to have the design pack supplied and fitted giving you the GTS front end.

So would you spend £50k + on a GTS with leather interior knowing it's inferior to ones that have the full GTS package therefore always take longer to sell or £30k on a well spec'd S with the same interior & a further £3-4k at Porsche to add the design pack and actually bump up the value of that car to circa £40k (today's market).

@daz05 perfect example of this with also the enjoyment of making his car very special. I'd love to know in comparison what your car owes you.

Im pretty sure the GTS had a no cost option for X73 sports suspension in lieu of PASM which would be another 10mm lower than PASM

those without the suspension button would have X73

X73 is this what is used on a Spyder? 30mm drop.

Nobody has really explained the mounts properly from Porsche but I was under the impression that these mounts are only adaptive with Sport Plus mode, even then all they actually do is stiffen up & the rest of the time they're softer for road use (unlike pasm which is still adaptive in comfort mode) however the required  electrical current seems to be the problem & they short out.

I don't see how most people actually need this feature. I'd certainly see somebody coding these out of the car and fitting standard or upgraded non adaptive mounds as a cure rather than driving waiting for a nice hefty bill.

Progressed a single DIN CarPlay install. It isn’t the Porsche headunit so I’m going to hang fire on sharing too much more until I’ve got some seat time with it. Initial impressions are favourable.

As part of my assessment of the progress made I went out for a pootle - I’d forgotten just how rowdy the car is having only commuted across Hull in it over the last couple of weeks.

It really is boisterous - and great fun - so much overtaking punch which makes Sunday afternoon pottering a pleasure.

You should drive it with others one day

Still in the honeymoon period.  Car is getting babied.

Don't worry I'll tell my tyres to only aim for the windscreen 😅

I don't blame you to be fair. Might have to arrange a evening at the Motorist with @mapto see it and catch up at some stage.

  14. Car looks absolutely fantastic, exactly as described when you was telling us about your colour choice. Somehow despite being as expected it looks better than I imagined.

I love seeing the build threads and tinkering threads in this forum. This has got to be without doubt the one of the best. Last time we met your car looked like @Chukkieegghad tried to do a 3 point turn in it & now it's really making me fancy a 981 😅

Well done you. Can't wait to stone chip it 😇

  15. I've just taken a quick look on their website and emailed to check stock quite happy at that sort of money just to get it over and done with this year.

Any suggestions for decent rads & pipes?

    Again thanks

Don’t think all cars do it, depends on the evap system. But yes a little hiss is not unusual

When I heard it on Adrian’s car it was (to my ears) more like a suck than a blow and went on for a good few seconds rather that a short burst.

it was unusual, in duration and how it tailed off towards the end.

@JonStaI think I've figured out where our tailored ads come from 🤣

This is perfectly normal to anybody getting into a cold car or even fueling up with fresh petrol and warming it up by driving hard. The cooler the tank is to start with the more hiss you'll get when the cars hot. We don't have a simple hole in the filler cap like a motorbike. If you feel it it's extremely bad I would be checking the fuel vent/ breather valve the next time it's on a ramp or you're tinkering, even just replace it for your piece of mind.

  17. I'm going to be dropping my car in for some tlc at the beginning of September for a few bits of jobs that I feel need addressing.

I have a coolant leak I would like resolving and due to age I'm going to swap out the rads and cross over pipes. I am also going to see about resolving my air con leak (hopefully just a rad).

I also have a knock on the front end that's not hindering the driving at the moment but obviously really annoying me. As the cars not due anything I'm thinking let's just have done and swap the coffin arms and whatever else required.

What's considered the best aftermarket brands & where do I shop for these? The car gets driven hard on the road so I don't really want to skimp too much and end up with something that could potentially snap (I've heard bad things about a few of the ebay arms).

    Thanks all.

  18. I found myself in a position recently where I had to sell my new works van due to it causing me knee pain with the driving position despite it being the van I wanted for a long time, obviously had to go. But it was the main concern for buyers and did put two very interested buyers off. When in actual fact it was a good genuine low milage van with main dealer service stamps & had just breezed through the MOT.

    That being said -

There's not enough to that advert to make you think this guy's even remotely passionate about that car & the vibe that gives me is one that doesn't say "Buy me".

Can you pass on a warranty supplied by a garage like that? I know you can with the OPC if you let them know but with a little garage?

    - I also got 'Crumpet' sat on a bed as a suggested marketplace advert. I have enquired it only said £35.

  19. Welcome aboard,

Keep an eye in the meets section for runs around the Dales or Strines.

Certainly get a post on the members rides section of the forum showing all the kids to your car it looks great!
