  1. No real updates, I have a image of the printout of codes my car has chucked but these don't display as P00000 codes but all start with 1's and unfortunately the reader won't display exactly what the codes are.

Some of the codes tally up to P- codes and at least 6 of the codes are fuel injector issues.

Unfortunately as I've just dropped the car on them at the last minute he hasn't had chance to do anything else with it yet. He's going to check another day if fuel is getting to them. But we are working on the idea it's something like that.

  2. Yeah the smell wasn't inside the car, it was outside. Only for a short period of time after I'd initially broken down.

I will check the belts I'm not sure I will be able to get to the car until tomorrow now. But I imagine I'll have a few days before my garage even get chance to look at it.

I'd like there to be a simple fix as the car is due to go into the garage for a major service and some suspension refresh work this month anyway. I'd like to ideally keep to that plan.

  3. It would match my symptoms agreed, apart from the melted plastic smell.

When I was waiting for recovery and checking if my mechanic was working yesterday or not (to see where the car went) we ruled out the possibilities of this.

I have a receipt for petrol (I always ask for one for work, habits).

I asked them at the garage if they have had any issues and nope.

Will see what my mechanic finds next week, fingers crossed it's the fuel pump or something

First boxster breakdown on 4 years. Not bad going, that👍

Might sound silly but have you checked you tightened the fuel cap at least three clicks?

Also how old are your Cats? If they are original and started to breakdown that will mess with the back pressure. Would also get worse as it warmed up of the honeycomb is breaking down.

Did you record a sound file of how it sounded when it last ran? On the Facebook group this has been used to great diagnostic effect.

No it literally lasted a mile, I was pulling over in Stainforth when she gave up.

Yogi is the best Dales recovery 😅

I have a video showing me trying to start the car again. I will send this via WhatsApp.

@edc @Nobbie seem to be onto something (hopefully).

Can you hear the fuel pump prime on ignition? I pulled mine out the garage once and later same day it just wouldn't start with good battery.

Thanks for this, I have got the car in the recovery truck being taken to my uncles yard so I'll have a toy around with this tomorrow.

  6. So I ran and drive my car last weekend no issues.

This morning I started the car fine, I drove it for an hour. Pulled up to get fuel & it again started fine. Drove some more & stopped for a P. I can't actually remember if I turned the car off or not.

But setting off the car sounded louder (like a tractor) & it needed a bit more pedal at first. I'd just found myself without an easy place to pull over so I drove approx 1mile before I found a place to pull over as I let off the gas the car just died.

Got out, couldn't see any drips or anything but I could smell like a burnt plastic'y smell.

The car now cranks but won't fire when I try start it.

@Nobbie is leaning towards a fueling issue, pump, relay or filter.

Any other ideas? I just don't get why it would smell if that's the cause.

  7. Would it be possible for you to buy a topgear/designtek switchable system and wire that into a centre console switch & then code in for PSE on the ECU?

I'm just thinking for those that don't already have PSE but fancy am aftermarket system for a slightly louder/different sound.

    Proper surgery there 👏

Would it have been an option is to remove the padding on the reverse side of the carpet? How much would that gain I wonder?

On the 986 the padding and carpet are separate so that worked wonders for myself who did this mod previously when I had the base 986 seats but I did refit the padding when I upgraded to the 987 seats as you're lower and further back in those somehow.

I'm 6'3" but didn't find that I was struggling for room when I have driven 987's length ways but did find that my knee pressed against the side of the console much more than it does in my 986 and it is more squishy in my 986 o although I might brush my leg against it every now and then it doesn't seem noticeable. Could this be why you're trying to get the seat back that bit more?

Why shocked ? Its flags up an error and why would you penny pinch?

Greenman below seemed to understand my point more. It has nothing to do with cost but function. So as below if you only get the benefit of PADM with sport+ mode and you just simply never use that function on your car and if you do it is minimal then you could make the decision to just swap out both mounts for the standard mounts which still work in the same way as your PADM in comfort mode then I am shocked more people don't go down this route.

It would rid some people of the worry or the waiting for a fault to crop up, especially those who are on their 3rd/4th mount.

Also it's worth knowing that this is a really common fault and it has taken some OPC's weeks to get the part's in from Porsche due to running out of units here so if you did the above and had a working engine mount you could if you wanted to make some of your funds back selling it you can.

I think you are correct aka how they work, as far as I know they don’t do anything different in comfort mode (I.e. act like a standard mount) but I’m not 100% on this, maybe they work like PASM and are always active but in two levels of stiffness? I do get the impression though that the active mounts are a bit more comfort oriented when not active (obviously less compromise needs to be made w.r.t the passive units)

As for the second point. If one of these goes it would cost you around £1000 part plus 4 hours labour to fix, an alternative would be to change both mounts for passive units, in which case you buy two passive mounts, more labour (maybe not quite double) and coding of PIWIS to code out the mounts.  Likely the cost of the second option would be similar to the first. You then have a car without the advantages of the active mounts, a reduced value etc etc.  So most would go with the first option.

Interestingly when I had my second unit replaced (both under warranty) I raised this passive option with the technician; you would have thought I’d have suggested replacing the engine oil with lard the look I got; followed by ‘you wouldn’t want to do that’. So I never actually got confirmation that it was or wasn’t possible.

Interesting that you didn't really get an answer to that. It's something that would be well worth finding out for folk in the future. Again as above if you just don't really bother with Sport+ are you really getting any benefit from them.

  10. I was under the impression these mounts worked in comfort mode unless you hit the sports plus button so if the magnetic field shorts out and you get a code fired up and the mounts are technically still in comfort mode what is the harm in just getting rid of the code like you would if you fit standard engine mounts?

Or does this mean the mounts are no longer firm enough when driving in anger?

From reading many of posts online now regarding PADM failure and people being out of warranty I am shocked most don't just fit standard mounts. Especially if Chrono never gets used in their cars.

So, you used to live in Scotland. Best roads in the country.

Can't argue Scotland's roads are the best in Scotland.

They're amazing, with beautiful scenery. We are lucky up North to have the Peaks, Lakes, Dale's, North Yorkshire Moors, Forest of Bowland and Nidderdale.

All of which we drove in 2019.

So we may as well make 2020 better and get a few of you guys to join us in the fun.

I'd like to gorp at the sport edition in person @Darkstar, I'll look forward to seeing it in action! My favourite 987.1 on the forum 😬

@ATM I'll give you a heads up. It's going to be February for me but if I see any runs happening I'll let you know 👍

I think he means near us in rainey Manchester ?

Rainy Manchester that's located right at the side of the Peak District. Yet you are complaining you have no roads. I have picked my nose and flicked a bogey further than you are from absolute brilliant roads.

    It's a car, drive it.

There has been Strines runs posted up already this year from Woodhead res and the guy leading them lives in Leicester.

If you want to find some really fun roads get yourself out to one of @Mr96er's runs, hopefully they will be some Dales one posted up by him or me in the near future also. They're good fun.

Edit: That as much as it doesn't sound it was meant to be a nice invitation to some fun out in the cars hahahaha, having read it back I lolled!

I'm not sure there will be love. I just dont have the roads where I live now. It's all urban grind here. The only thing I can get excited about here is dropping the roof.

You're not so far away from joining us guys on Strines weekend sorties or the Dales drives.

    Nothing

Its got 5 out of 6 bolts and that's not even an MOT fail apparently. Someone told me if a car does not drive that's not an MOT fail but dont quote me.

That's cool. I didn't really mean for a mot but it's just something that would niggle me knowing it has a bolt missing. I wouldn't remove a wheel nut.

Hope all goes well with the Mot and you can get it back and drive it a bit, hopefully rekindle a bit of love for driving it prior to finishing the rest of the bodywork.

I just called into the garage to see whats going on with my car.  I did this out of the blue to surprise them.  To be fair I was very happy with the outcome.  They showed me the car in the workshop.  I had a look at the front and it looks fine.  Cant see anything untoward so once they get the new bumper bar, bumper, paint it and fit then the front will be right as rain.

They are still waiting for the correct rigid brake pipe part to come from Porsche.  Once this arrives it will be fitted.  Then once the front is done they will take it to an MOT centre for an inspection.  Then we will know exactly what problems if any are thrown up by an MOT.

I'm feeling a lot better now although I'm trying not to think about what this is all going to cost me.  The front is getting fixed so this is now a none issue.  I would prefer if it had not happened at all but I cant ask for much more than them fixing it.  I'm still curious if they will try to charge me for the collection by trailer even though this was a disaster.

Very pleasing to read and all you can do is stay positive. I am in a bit of a position where my car needs a fair bit of work and not really the best of times for me to just take it in and have it all done at once so I know your feeling regarding how much it adds up.

Interested to see what they come up with during the MOT stage, I imagine they will be vigorous following the repairs so again if nothing comes of it that's a massive plus.

What has been done about the snapped bolt in the shaft? Nothing at all or are the garage going to do something with this?

  16. Great that progress is being made on the car and it is going into a garage, sucks to read that the car transport wen't badly. Hopefully a positive can come out of this and they will rectify and look after you moving forward.

It's hard not to but don't overthink it tonight it will just play on your mind, tomorrow is a new day and just see what comes of it.

I think black is the best colour. Keep it black and get an orange car cover 😅

Thanks Luke I would have it painted. I am thinking now that the Joe Toth one is a bit too big and not as subtle as I would like.  The Zeinwing May fit the bill nicely as more subtle looking 🤔

Yeah I agree and as soon a Map posted it up I was like "buy it, BUY IT NOW" will finish your car off very nicely.

Thanks yours does look good Luke.  Didn’t you say it took a lot of fiddly modification to get it to fit though?

    Yes and no,

I fit it fine but I took it back off, filled it with foam to give it some more rigidity and then fit it with my own bolts and some extra resin to get a better seat for the bolts. Not difficult to do just took some thought and trial at the time.

I was like you thinking of the JT one but even his smaller versions look a little too obvious and big. subtle mods work best on these cars and your work so far mirrors my point perfectly.

would you get it painted to body colour? Think fibreglass ones are cheaper than my carbon one however I went carbon to avoid having to paint it 🤷‍♂️
