  1. I was looking at Spyder Performance but will have to see exactly where the leak is coming from. I had a weep around the engine I think the left hand coolant pipe but I believe the new leak is somewhere up front I'll have to check if that's a rad or a pipe but can't get it up a ramp until next week.

  2. I've seen plenty of threads with ranging prices for coolant leaks & repairs.

I just wondered where those of you who source your own parts are getting hold of cross over pipes for a 987.2

I am aware of OPC, D911 & ECP but wondering if I'm missing somewhere?

Remove big nut from driveshaft and then use pusher to push driveshaft out of hub - pic 1

Might need to remove some of the suspension links / joints to get it to move around enough for clearance - I would remove the inside joints where the tracing adjusters are as these are easier to remove - no ball joint splitting - pic 2

Once the outboard end is free you need to unbolt the 6 bolts holding it to the half shaft - pic 3

    Tracking

I'd say an hour should be fine for a competent mechanic - per side

Again you don't need to do both sides - just the busted one

I still think your 981 thread is both risky & the best thread on the forum for the revival of a car to date.

But in this instance fairly useful as a guide to wonder where somebody can justify £1600 of their time to do the above.

He does have the Jig though,be mad to attempt without.

I think the key to making this job painless is to have the car in the air rather than being laid on your back getting caked up in rust and dust as you struggle away.

Some people have been very lucky with this job diy such as @Terryg I wasn't just as lucky and decided it was less painful to just take the car to my mechanic. After a few snapped, I caked them up in penetration oils and actually my mechanic managed to drill out and not have to tap any of the bolt threads. But again that's the difference in position under the car.

TBH if I’d sold mine I would definitely be interested in this as I think it’s a nice car. I’m not bothered about Bose and the interior is fine. I’d probably get Red seat belts fitted and possibly the steering wheel upholstered which would include a red 12’o’ clock but that would lift the interior enough for me.
I'm tempted to ask if he’ll take a px 🤔👍

I think he actually stated that he would consider P/X

Comes across as a normal genuine nice bloke on his socials which is why I've enjoyed his GTS uploads. Not trying to show off for YouTube at all which is rare in this day & age. I think his Mrs hates it 😂😂

I like the car and he’s honest with his video explaining it’s time to sell. Identifying things like stone chips on paintwork and the windscreen. But here’s the question. Do you think the documented work he’s carried out using non Porsche parts all be it the exact equivalent in most cases devalues the car at all? But it is being sold at a great price.
I suppose it’s well documented on his YouTube videos and he’s probably got the supporting recipes. But it was carried out by himself on his drive. Interesting to see what people think 🤔

Interesting point but he's not carried out a major service on the car so he hasn't disturbed anything that takes away with the service history. Plus he's a ex VW tech that's owned his own garage it wouldn't put me off. He's probably got more experience than most folk that work in the Porsche centres?

But aye, I'm not selling the car I just thought for that sort of money it'd be great for it to hit this forum!

  7. Andrew @ Volkswizard has his GTS up for sale. He's a YouTuber that's blind bought the car at auction following COVID where people just didn't want stock.

He's spent a lot, driven a lot and in my eyes (people as I've followed his channel) it's one of the few non forum cars you can trust.

At £39k 🤯 He's been looking for a GT4 and must have found something he wants to have reduced it to that.

  8. If you have a car for sale and there's 5+ folk all checking WBAC using your reg it's bound to have an impact on their valuation, I remember selling a van and it did the same and people even started offering me based on WBAC prices despite it being the cheapest van on the market with half the miles of all the dealer + vat vans. They all got ignored 😂

There's a few folk on here that likely share the same opinion & having test driven a couple the 987.1 3.4 is still a RAW machine it just felt like someone had stuck a 911 engine in my 986. Although I love my 987.2 some of that is lost within it all & not necessarily the gearbox.

Moving from my 986 2.7 to a 3.4 the 2.7 is a beast I think the only area the 987 feels nicer on in terms of slinging it down the road are the overtakes are a bit less intense as you can sling shot your way past.

The torque difference in corners isn't enough for me personally, not the type of corners that challenge a Boxster anyway. Personally that is. In the tight twisty areas there's a fine line between having too much power into each corner and relying on the torque to pull you through them VS having the 2.7 way up in the high revs giving you the same grip 🤘

If you want to gauge that I get about 2500-3000miles out of a set of rears & average 13mpg 😅

Thanks, this was my exact reason for the post - cars like mine that I am happy with mostly-  it could just be peppy-ier and does not have a sport button - I think it does in essence the same thing - some oem sports buttons of course adjust suspension too.

Anyway I was after folks that had one - seen a few posts with a mention but they were scattered and so I was thinking we could get some info in one place - real world stuff especially for those that chose a 2.7 [mainly as it had PSE,ext leather, GT silver, 19" lobsters , heated seats, upgraded later steering wheel and low miles, its gor bose too but now I know I wouldn't care about that]

I have been looking on and off and not found a 987.2 as yet - I'm not doing a 987.1 3.4 as £700 a year tax is daft - I can tax, insure and have £100 in change...

Sorry drifted off topic then 😉

After market throttle controllers who has 'em ?

  11. By pressing the Sport button does it not also reduce the PSM sensitivity?

I know that @bally4563 after moving from the RS60 with Chrono to the Sport Edition without Chrono he felt it was lacking & sorted himself out a Sprint Booster.

On my 987.2 Sport mode feels quite normal. Having neither Sport or S+ pressed feels very sluggish and flat to me although it's fine for a bit of commuting/traffic jams.

  12. I managed to get my street trials bike in the 986 previously but don't think I have any photos. It was 24" so I left the rear wheel on but dropped the left crank arm off. Roof up I just had to loosen the stem.

I managed for a Scotland trip to get it into the boot & frunk without anything in the front of the car to try avoid anyone pinching it. Although it was a bit of a ball ache.

Fair play to you for getting that in!

Well, he is supposed to be a famous musician. And why wouldn’t he want to drive round in a 20 year old boxster. 😂. A fan spots him in the car and approaches. He winds the window down and they chat. The young lady gets a bit exited and has a Tom Jones moment and pings her nick nacks at him. Thong to be exact. He gets out the car and other fans come a running up with their phones out taking vid and pics. 😂🤪🤙🏻

Did he say "it's had the IMSB replaced" and then boom labia's out as the spam holsters off and thrown at him 🥙

  14. Over the weekend I got a check oil level code. I presumed because most of my drives are quite hard on the car perhaps I've just burnt through a bit?

The reading was level with the minimum line as you could expect. I added 1/2 a liter to what I imagined would take it up two bars warmed it back up but it stayed put on the reading. So I added some more & got it to temp and still not really going up. Basically had to drop in what I had which in my mind was too much.

Then got the oil too high fault code I presume that's via the gasses?

So today I've dropped the oil and started again. I dropped out 8l including what was in the filter & I've replaced it with 7 with the intention of adding some more if needed.

Anyway the cars still claiming it's over full so I'm going to have to drive it and hopefully it will sort itself out, otherwise I'll look at what I need to do to swap the sensor.

Does anybody actually know what each bar on the 987 oil read holds?

  15. Good read @map it just makes your car that bit more special.

My journey is pretty basic when I waited for the school bus someone used to get dropped off by their dad in a 986 Boxster & I think it just sat in the back of my mind as a car I'd love to one day own. When I bought my 986 it wasn't intended to be used how I now use my cars it was just to have a nice clean car to get into after a week in the works van.

Now my works vans usually cleaner than my car & my car just gets thrown around the B roads 😂

I have this forum to thanks for just how much I fell in love with the 986 especially @Mr96er for getting me out on some runs.

All we need to do now @map is errrr? Drive em!

Dad was big into trials when I was a sprog he at a younger age rode for Colin Appleyards & then for John Lampkin Beta down in the village. I wasn't great on the Moto but picked up the bike trials very quickly and got hooked.

That's now sprouted my little collection of Retro Monty & Montessa cyclo trials bikes (all resto).

We just commented on a cracked subframe last week, said it must have been abused as I’d never heard of it. Does this imply it might be more common than expected but easily missed?

I don't think it's abuse as such, some of these subframes are 26 years old. It's certainly a weak point of the design & we've all accidentally hit potholes on occasion where we've cringed.

They'll be people driving around with these cracked without knowing about it but those cars probably don't end up under load quite the same or the drivers are just oblivious to it.

I remember one of the Scottish Borders runs everyone in our group took the same line down a particular road and everyone bottomed out their suspension. Some worse than others I seem to recall @fat haggis had some tasty markings under his 981. Just so easily done but you just carry on driving trying to forget about it. I believe most of us after that run got our cars on ramps to have a look under.

@Cocky Thanks for info. I will bear that in mind going forward and check when It next goes on a ramp. Even sooner if it happens again. Was the near or off side cracked to make it pull to the left? I have crack detection sprays at work that would show anything up. 👍

We're going back years ago, I'm sure it was the driver side.

I'd just get it on a ramp asap in case just to be sure. How you explained your situation it sounded very alike.
