What's your concern with leaving it out over winter? Is your only parking under a tree and sap is a worry?

If it's open space, not under a tree then a year or two outside is nothing. Had mine outside for a couple of winters with no cover but I have no trees overhead.

It's getting washed and used more than my 986 was over the last winter due to covid and such and I am able to park it away from the trees a little more than before. So I did wonder if a cover would now gain me a lot. Because it's right up in the countryside you just get ducks, birds, alsorts #2ing on it as well as the wind which just cakes it full of leaves and little mini balls that fall from the trees.

I think I live with washing it more or I take Pinewoods advice on a full cover.

I should be next spring/Summer into a garage purely for this car.

  2. Does anyone have any experience with soft top coverings such as this -

    https://www.ukcustomcovers.com/porsche-boxster-987-tailored-half-cover-black-2005-2012

If this goes over a damp roof would I end up with mould growth or something? I am in a pickle as I have a garage for the car but I've filled it with work materials (a shop frontal & 4 UPVC doors for a job. And starting to think my car will be out all winter and spring.

  3. I would be looking at your coil packs to make sure they're not all cracked on that bank & causing some kind of fault.

I would just remove or unplug your MAF sensor and run the car without one. Plenty of 2.5 owners have done this in the past and just ran them without.

Unless you have an obvious cracked manifold, joint or failed cat. I can't see why sealing the U bends would help if it's behind the 02 sensor by that much, it's no different to people with valved U bends & wouldn't throw up misfire codes.

Genuinely would be looking at a little service, plugs & coils at least.

Also I'd you do order from design 911 again use code TIPEC5 for 5% off its not much but it's something (don't slap me wrist Araf, I'm a Yorkshireman).

  4. Service parts ordered, will await these and get it booked in for an oil change.

@map made a good point about me not worrying about driving the car in the wet it's likely my coil pack just playing subtle games with me. Let's see.

  5. So I have just been out in the car it revs to 1100 for a few minutes and then drops actually to around 900 it's still got a wobbly needle.

However the cars now feeling to lag at times in a few if the low down gears as I am driving along steady away in manual/Sport mode. Any ideas on this one guys and gals?

Thanks @Paul P for the above.

  6. I have a little bit of a jumpy need on my 3.4 PDK hot or cold around 1100rpm

I wondered if this was normal?

I did wonder if this could be AOS or a slight vacuum leak or just because it's creeping up towards being due a service. I have heard from a Porsche indi that it's uncommon to swap the AOS on the DFI engine but that's one view against anybody on here's experiences.

I am planning on getting it in for a service next month & doing the plugs/coils. So doing some research.

    Thanks guys!

  7. Hi,

On my 987.2 I'm aware that these are sootier than normal for various reasons however I keep finding it on my bumper after a spirited run.

Just some small specs, I have contacted two Porsche Indis who have said different things & just wondered if it happened to folk on here who track their cars.

I live near roads that you can drive pretty hard on and after a long run around these roads I'm hitting approximately 18-20mpg those that track day their cars is that about right also?

    Cheers all,

    Luke

    Referring to alarm battery....

Referring to the actual battery, if it's running low or on its way out it can trigger the alarm as a warning. Usually in the middle of the night.

Do a forum search for Bovee and you’ll find a topic I started a while ago and one from Johnttt that should help.

The Bovee 1000 Bluetooth receiver (the other make I couldn’t remember is Invery) plugs into the 30 pin old iPhone/iPod socket on the Porsche Y-cable that goes into the sockets in your arm rest. The cable is approx £30 from an OPC.

This takes care of wireless music streaming - from an iPhone at least - I don’t know about your Pixel 3. I think you then stick with the PCM Bluetooth system for phone calls. I guess this means that your phone needs to be able to connect to two BT devices simultaneously.

i went round the houses on this for a while and ended up with a wired setup using the Y-cable and an extension with my iPhone in a magnetic dash mount. But I’ve just installed the PCM 3.0 joyeauto kit for wireless CarPlay (also does Android Auto) and it’s way better. Wireless music streaming, phone, texts, Google/Apple maps etc.

    Hope that helps.

I've looked at the Joyeauto kit and that might be the route I go down, would also mean I can use the Waze app while out driving. Good heads up.

IIRC BT will work but I cant remember if you have to control on the phone

the girls used to stream via BT to the Cayenne's PCM when on long journeys but used the phone to switch tracks

Obviously I've managed to connect my phone to the PCM and have used it to make calls but absolutely nowhere can I find anywhere that I can then try to play music via BT onto, I was thinking I'd find a simple AUX, BT, USB sort of function. Unless I need to try harder.

Do you have the “universal audio” bit in the armrest cubby ?

aux , usb and a weird round socket called “iPod” ?

if so.  You have options. But let’s figure out what you have.

I do have the three ports yes, by plugging my phone into the USB port it charges and the PCM acknowledges it but then says it's not compatible.

I haven't tried the AUX but like the sound of below

You could plug a Bluetooth receiver via a cable into the aux socket in the armrest (if you have it). There’s one made by a company called Bovee, there are others, but I forget the name.

Or you could get a wireless CarPlay / Android Auto upgrade Joyeauto kit. I’ve just fitted one and it’s great.

My only issue here is if I connected to a BT receiver would I then not be able to use and make phone calls via the PCM/ Multi function wheel?

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it!

  11. Is it possible for me to play music via Bluetooth on the PCM 3.0 (or is it just for calls?)

If not via Bluetooth is my only option then the AUX & if so can you skip through music via an aux cable or not?

Using the USB port it says not compatible (I'm on a Pixel 3) but it does charge my phone via the USB.

    Thanks

  12. I've got the guys at BR motorsport plugging it in at the weekend to see if they can write a map for the car. He might have to set me up with either 200CEL cats or he will drop out the mufflers and remove the second row of cats from the manifolds in situ and refit the exhaust & do the tune. I'll be there while he does whatever he decides to do anyway so let's see.

On the 987.1 you have a cat in the manifold & one in the mufflers.

On the 987.2 it seems there's two in the manifold and none in the silencers.

Yes this is what I am looking to do. It's standard in the 981 range if you have factory PSE however it's not common in the 987.2 for the fuel to be dropped in like the 981.

I've just emailed my new indi to see if it's something they might be able to help with.

AFAIK the pops and crackles are a function of the Ecu which chucks some fuel into the inlet on the overrun. As you have the factory set up I'm surprised you don't get that. Think I remember someone on here getting the Ecu flashed at the stealer to make that happen.

  15. I have PSE factory fitted to my new car and as much as I love the ability to switch between the modes I don't think it makes a huge amount of difference.

I'm looking into the kits that you can map in "pops n bangs" but I can't see anywhere on any of the sites I've found (Softronic, Fabspeed, Cobb) where you can tune these files to work with say sport mode or Sport plus as I don't want it to happen all of the time.

I've emailed all of the above mentioned to see what they get back to me with but has anybody on here used a UK tuners to have this feature installed on their car?

I appreciate 200CEL cats would make the exhaust louder and a bit fruiter however that would just leave me with both on/off louder and I actually just want a bit more crackle rather than volume.

  16. Struggling with these codes still, it's throwing some weird ones.

    Fuel - Okay

    Fuel Pump - Okay

Shift these codes and as soon as it cranks it throws them again. Thinking something along the lines of crank sensor maybe but want to get to the bottom of these codes first.
