New control module arrived today, so did a trial fit and I am pleased to say its all working as it should be...whoop! whoop!
No special control module needed and no height sensors are need, if you use the retrofit wiring loom from Porsche.
I'll post a video up, once its out of winter storage.

The connections are not cross compatible. You need both sides of the 987 seat connections with enough wire to connect to the existing loom once cut off
Or you could cut the plug off from the 987 seats wire them to the plug of the 986 seats. The wiring is pretty simple for the electric recline and heated elements, not sure about the full electric ones.

So after some further investigation, I have discovered that the Porsche retrofit loom has couple of resistors fitted. These are set up as a voltage divider which feed both front and rear sensors to the control module. This I think is mimicking the height sensors as the car been level.
I have also discovered that you can perform a self test on the litronic lights by doing the below.
1. Turn on dipped lights (position 2)
2. Turn on ignition (starting engine not necessary)
Lights should now move down and then back to centre, this part is working on my setup.
I just need someone to confirm if that's all it does and they don't go fully down, fully up and then centre.
Going to try another control module in the mean time, as I still would like the kick up to work with high beam.

My recently acquired 986.2 has the Litronic option from factory. However, I must admit they are still pretty poor to modern LED lights! lol
Comparing to my 992 which has PDLS+ and my wife's Audi which has matrix LED's. Not a fair comparison but when you get used to the better lighting it's hard to adjust when jumping into the Boxster. Any advice on how to brighten them up? Nevertheless, it's a nice factory option and they look good on the car, so happy days!

For pure nerd value I tried to find that part in the parts list. Can’t match it. Although Google searches find units with that part number and they are there plain as day on eBay.
Also interested to learn about the “kick” never knew that was a thing.
on the 987.2 bi-xenon there is a supplemental halogen high beam bulb because of the “warm up” time for xenon , when you flash your lights the halogen is there for instant effect and then the xenon catches up. Also interesting is that cars equipped with them don’t have front fog lights. Apparently the beam pattern is sufficient.
There are not many control modules with 996 618 151 ** part number about and the ones listed on eBay seem to demand a premium, which is the part used in the retrofit-kit. Not sure on the difference yet between that and 996 618 015** module.
But think I could mimic the height sensors with a few resistors to get the low beam kick up to work.
Wiring loom is still available from OPC.

For a genuine retro fit, have you added the ride height sensors to the left side suspension front and rear. This could affect whether the main beam flip up is working as these are required to level the dipped beam too.
It’s a retrofit kit that was offered from Porsche at the time. The whole point of the kit is for the low beam to flip up with the high beam. Without adding the height sensors.
Only thing I can see I’m doing different is using control module with a different part number as TSB. Which may be the issue.
Just need someone to tell me if factory fitted install has this feature?

Try this. Go to about 36mins in for the swap info'. However his car is an early one. Good luck
These for aftermarket lights, I’m fitting genuine Porsche Litronic headlights.

Had mine since 2018, done loads of work on maintenance and upgrades. Always look on AT for what other Porsche I could get to replace it with. But with amount I’ve spent on my 986 think I would struggle to find something as sorted.
But you never know.

I have it to fit. I think I saw somewhere you swap those two wires around. There are youtube vids showing the install. FCP euro I think.
I’ve looked on YT and the net and not seen anything about this. If you can link the post it would be appreciated.

Not the kit but there is a how to in the how to section written by I think Duffy from several years ago.
Thanks found the thread.
So I may need to find the specific control module that is supplied with the retrofit kit. As I just picked on up from eBay thinking they would all be the same.
Those of you that have factory fitted litronic, do your low beam kick up with the high beam is switched on?
@Richard Hamilton, seen some of your old post on this subject. Can you recall if need to use a specific control module to get this feature to work?

Has anyone fitted the Litronic retrofit kit to a 986.2?
I've fitted the kit, but can't get the low beam xenon to kick up when high beam is selected.
Link below if folks aren't familiar with it.
Using this Module 996 618 015 10, which I am not sure is the issue or what I am trying to do is not for UK cars.

Do you mind me asking how much this solution will end up costing you?
Mine is a bit of long story, but think I paid around £3700 for a replacement engine fitted, with a new clutch and fly wheel and some other bits.

Hi all,
Update and a question, so after a few months of thinking and searching, I managed to find a replacement engine from a two owner car (109k) which had been part exchanged as it failed its MOT on brakes, pipes, suspension and needed a few K on remediation work. The garage (Statller Sheffield) then decided to break it as it made more financial sense so I went to hear it running then had the engine removed and shipped.
I've had the new to me engine fitted to the car with upgraded ceramic IMS, new Sachs clutch, new AOS, 987 airbox, 911 plenum, 911 throttle body and a poly-bushed engine mount. Going to collect later this week and apparently its running well...
Now the old engine had an IMS failure, but as I didn't need to provide a return to Statller the garage have the engine and are asking what I want to do with it. So question, does an IMS failed engine have any value or is it scrap?
Will let you know how the car drives once I get back in it!
Cheers,
Randeep
When I was in similar situation a few years back, I was told the old engine still had some value left in it.
Heads are probably worth around £300/£400 each alone. Unfortunately for me I had to return the old engine as part of the replacement.

OMG - how dare they not want my custom 😆
I can't think why that would be though, they are Porsche specialists and do tonnes of classics. They don't seem faint-hearted and this is fairly routine stuff.
I find some of the so called specialists in Yorkshire can have a bit of snobbery about them, when it comes to the 986 Boxster. Think they just want folks with higher priced Porsches, who don't question anything and just pay the bill.

Includes the ARB and drop links from the way I read it.
Ahh okay.
Maybe the garage doesn't want the work, hence quoting higher prices. GLW

The rear ARB bushes for £659, that's ridiculous. Probably one of the easiest jobs to do on the list.
I would be looking for another garage, if you want to save some £££

I replaced the front to rear pipes and the short pipes from the flexi to caliper myself.
My post below has some useful information on the various fittings that are used on the Boxster that might help.

Nope, mine don't go back up even if they were closed when the roof is opened or closed.
So if your roof is open and your windows are in the fully up position. Do they not go down partly when you start to close the roof from the switch, then fully close the windows when you close the roof latch?
-
Tell the garage to drill them and put some thread inserts in. It’s what the specialist do, meant to be stronger then straight into aluminium. Get the new revised bolts for the calliper as they shorter and hopefully won’t have this issue again.
-
Are you sure its not the bearing that has gone dry in the pulley, as I am sure you can purchase these separately.

Update: sale provisionally agreed at £8750. I think that’s ok for a 44k miler personally.. Need to register the switch from private plates before actual sale. Car was in great condition overall. Drove great, light clutch. Only issue was gear lever wouldn’t self-centre in neutral without guiding hand.
The non-self centring can happen if the car hasn't been used much. Just needs linkage lubricating and freeing up at the gearbox end, or it will free up with some use. Happens to me every spring after taking the car out of winter storage

Thanks everyone. I’m going to order clamps and sleeves first and hope that does the job!
most appreciated.

Add a bit of exhaust assembly paste, to help seal the U bends with the clamps.

Found here at bargain of....310 EUR (!)
It works out as nearly 380GBP once you add the shipping costs and charge for paying via credit card and maybe import duties on top of that.
Could do with some traveling to the US to bring some back.
Poor running, any ideas?

If it was working fine before you changed the plugs and epoxied the coil packs, I would start from there and make that electrical connector is plugged in correctly.
But if the coil packs are cracked, would just replace them as a maintenance item.
