@Sanky what's the story with the replacement engine?

Timing chain jumped a cog or two after having the IMS replaced by Strasse.  Possible causes seals not replaced on the tensioner bolt or stretched chains.

Either way Strasse should have carried out cam shaft deviation check before starting the work and replaced the seals on the tensioner as standard practice.

Well got it booked into strasse porsche for 31st Aug for engine diagnostic and get to see me sis as well as she lives just out of leeds

Did you try Performance Porsche or Porsche Euro which is in Barnsley.

I wasn’t happy with the service received from Strasse and would never use them again after they cost me a replacement engine when doing the IMS replacement.

    This IMO of course.

    Picked up boxster from garage😀

I Supplied parts from Spyder Performance. They fitted new front top mounts and bearings, new bump stops, inner tie rods and a quick 2 wheel tracking just to tie me over while I next fit the new lower control arms and diagonal supports just for the experience. Then back for the 4 wheel alignment.
Bill £200 which I feel is amazing as I have no idea or tools to do either and I still currently have my knuckles 🤣

I don't understand how a garage could miss bits off, when re-fitting.  Unless they were already missing, so they didn't notice they had spare parts.

Hindsight, you should have given the garage the exploded diagram of the suspension.

Trust me when I say, sometimes the Indie's with there big fan base are NO better.

I prefer to work on my car myself, as I know its been done to the best of my ability...just getting a bit old for it now.

Yes , I think I will definitely order some new bolts beforehand, I can always send them back if I don’t need them

You should replace the eccentric bolts if they have been used for alignment a number of times.  This is according to Centre Gravity, who say a maximum of 4 when fully torqued.

  5. Parts catalogue doesn't list a LHD or RHD version.

    Latest part number is 996 423 139 10

    What year is your car?

Just checked on design911, its only about £50+vat.  Probably best to get it from OPC with your reg. to get the correct one.

If you really want it green and with less negative camber you will either need to raise the ride height or get adjustable rear toe links.

Out of spec doesn't mean in itself it's bad. My geo has always been out of factory spec.

I wonder if I should have fitted the thicker rubber compensating plate.  As I think they are fitted with M030 kit and might give it that little extra lift it needed.

But I’m not taking it apart again 😫

  7. Thanks all, you have put my mind at rest.

I have replaced all the suspension arms including the inner and outer track arms.

So it’s all nice and tight and drives really smooth.

Will start with my full leather dash swap, now that weather is improving and we are still on this lockdown.

More camber is inevitable with the lowering and the overall suspension geometry on the car as camber increases with compression of the suspension and you have effectively compressed it by using lowering springs.  When you refitted the front did you put the top mount in the same position or use the maximum travel in the slotted holes in the turrets?  It is a way to get more front camber, which can be desirable.  Some even elongate the slots to get a bit more so having a bit more than the factory max on the back is not really an issue.

I am just concerned about the rear camber, fronts look with in spec.  I understand what you are saying about it been lowered.  As the garage showed me that if lifts the back up, the settings go in the green area.

So am I okay having the rear camber setting set as they are?

  9. Just had new tyres fitted all round, so thought would have the wheel alignment checked.

These are my after results, with Koni Active Shocks and H&R M030 spec springs.

The garage doing the alignment said that the rear camber was at its maximum travel, so couldn’t get it in to the green.  So he did his best to try and make it equal on both sides.

Do my figures look fine...the car drives fine, just the wheels look tilted inwards.  But not sure if it was like that before the suspension work or alignment.

good shout mate. Not familiar yet with 986 and Porsche It's new to me the car from last week. Is there any tip to fix this issue or replacing coil pack will fix it? (if leaking from there of course).

You might as well replace the tubes whilst you are there.  Have a look on YouTube for a how to video.

Think you need to give it the so called Italian tune up, before the test.  Mine has been marginal on the emissions for the last 2 years, but the tester usually gets it through by revving the nuts off it.

I have read on another post about getting the car hot and holding the car at around 5000rpm for a mile or to get some real heat through the CATS for them to start working.  I will be trying this next year before the MOT test.

Hey Sanky, any chance you could point me in the direction of the springs you have ordered. the only H&R springs i could find were the 30mm drop and i thought the MO30 suspension was only 10mm drop.

also, which bump stops did you go for? when i spoke to Spyder Performance when i ordered my coffin arms they said they couldnt say if their bumpstops would fit the Koni suspension. my struts are currently on their way to me.

    These

As has been said by @edc about the bump stop.

From what I've seen the H&R -10 springs drop the car nearer to 20mm then 10 (though I've no first hand experience) , so the results might be closer to what I achieved while running - 30 camber/toe wise if using stock arms.

I did rough measurement of the ride height after fitting the new suspension, Ideally I should have done a before measurement.  But the values I got were within the MO30 specification given by Porsche.

Post your results if you can

You'll love it.  Well done, I know what it takes!

What parts did you change and where were they from?

My list is something like this...

    4 Koni Special Active Dampers
    4 H&R M030 spec springs
    4 coffin arms (Spyder performance)
    2 front bump stops (Porsche)
4 ARB drop links (TRW & Meyle)
    4 ARB bushes (Porsche)
2 front top mounts (Sachs - OE)
2 front top mount bearings (Hamburg Technic - OE I think?)
2 front tuning forks - (Spyder Performance)
2 inner and outer tie rods, with new bellows (TRW)
    2 front wheel bearings (FAG)
all new hardware at the front (Porsche)
2 rear toe links (Spyder Performance)
    2 rear tuning forks (TRW)
4 eccentric (camber) bolts on rear (Porsche)

Did a little test drive today, just to make sure its about right...seems fine just wandering a bit.  That should be fixed after a decent alignment.
