  1. I am not longer moving forward with the red one unfortunately.

The seller wasn’t willing to answer simple questions before loosing his rag and behaving like a child so j have decided to leave it there. Shame as it could have been a good car but my instinct says walk as I have lost trust in him now!

think he was having a bad day as someone agreed to come look at it / had an inspection due Thursday but cancelled the day before and I think I just contacted him at the wrong time and he took it out on me. Either way he should behave appropriately with a perspective buyer.

    The search continues :)

I sold my mint, low mileage, full service history 987.2 after 6 months..sometimes a car is just not quite right for you, you'd have missed a cracker, always worth a conversation with the seller on a nice carIMG_20221028_143301.thumb.jpg.fe71a295941e71a17e863dc9d230503e.jpg

Yeah I was gutted I missed yours as it was a beauty and right up my street.

Was a couple of months early unfortunately.

An alternative view is that Boxsters are often owned by gentlemen who are the wrong side of 40, who discover that the mental image they hold of their fitness doesn’t match the reality of dropping into a low, small, two-seat car. The last owner or mine didn't keep it long after they developed back problems.

It's a Cayman to be fair but i guess the same rings true 😆

I'd need to hear the aftermarket exhaust.

    MoT history looks good

Yeah I did see the MOT history looks half decent compared to most i have looked at.

It has quite good servicing records too. A shame the last two aren't a specialist though.

8 owners isn't ideal but i know its to be expected with some cars.

I do worry ill buy it and it will need loads of cash spent at it but its a risk either way i guess.

They seem to be a reliable enough engine, just the usual chassis wear and tear, I've had mycarinspections.co.uk do ppi on a couple of porkers, I know Nick Giles gets good reviews but both times I have approached him its been 2 weeks wait, these guys do provide a very comprehensive ppi with lots of photos, can be booked with a few days notice and are available for as many conversations as you like post inspection..saved me from buying one car that looked fine when i test drove but they found a few too many problems on the inspection for me to do ahead..good luck with your search Ash, that does look a nice Cayman

    Thanks mate,

Your old 2.9 would have been ideal but wrong time for me unfortunately.

The guy has gone quiet on the red one, waiting for more info / schedule in a viewing.

  6. Hi all,

Thinking about buying a cayman 2.7 987.1 as a daily for something a bit different, I am bored of my current 330i so think this could be fun for a bit

How reliable is the 2.7 engine? Do I need to be wary of anything? I don’t know much about this particular engine unfortunately.

I know the common general Boxster / cayman 987 issues as we used to own a 987.2 BE.

    Thanks

    Ash

Below is the car in question.

  7. If the last big service was done Jan 2020 then your minor service was Due Jan 2022 and your next major was due Jan 2024.

Don't forget you need brake fluid every 2 years as well.

i'd get it done ASAP..... nearly 3 1/2 years between oil changes is too long, even the 2 year schedule is too long IMO :)going forward maybe try and change the oil every MOT or something so its kept fresh and up to date.

    Good luck

  8. I’d get the Bose 100% the base system is terrible IMO, the Bose isn’t stand out by any means but it’s better than the base by a long shot.

The base system in the Macan isn’t too bad to be fair as above, but remember they are very different cars with different purposes and the base system isn’t the same!

if actually go as far as to say the base Macan system is better than the Bose in the 718 but one is an SUV with loads of space, a solid roof, and plenty of speakers and sound deadening the 718 doesn’t have that on its side!

It’s a must have option IMO and I do think people would expect it in a GTS in the secondary market!

I may be wrong so please correct me but having this as standard

Sport air suspension with ride-height adjustment including lowering of 10mm

GTS Specific Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with reduced ride height - Electronically controlled active damping system with three manually selectable modes ("Comfort", "SPORT" and "SPORT PLUS")”

Like I say, I may misunderstand what your thinking but I assumed it offered the same sporty ride but also comfort when you didn’t need it

Maybe they have dropped the standard PASM steel suspension then in favour of only air suspension then by the looks of it.

I am not fully up to spec with he latest generation macans but the steel suspension on the MK1 and facelift was brilliant IMO, the air was a bit soft for sprinted driving, i tried a few at PEC and found the steel PASM to be the pick of the bunch on 20" wheels

Not experienced the latest generation though

My musts, for the unicorn car were:

    PDK

    'S'

    Sport design steering wheel

    PSE

    DAB module

Blue, Grey or Silver (no black red or white cars) I got Sapphire Blue, which is growing on me, mainly due to the number of admiring comments I'm getting.

    I didn't want:

Chrono, because of worrying about reliability/cost of the PADM mounts, and not seeing the point of launch control.

    I would have liked:

Memory multi way seats, but that wasn't to be.

I also got, though not on my list:

    Extended leather.

Red seat belts (that aren't on my option sheet as far as I can see).

    Logo'd mats

A plethora of 12V and interface ports.

A very nice set of easy to clean wheels, though I'm not sure what they're called.

    Looks great

SB is a brilliant colour and not overly common either :)

Am i right in thinking I have some kind of extended leather? the dash and door cards do seem to have leather on them and other cars i see online have plastic looking surface on the dash.

Specs i can see on the sheet are 09971 custom tailoring and 981 leather interior but no mention of extended leather but it certainly looks different to some other cars on autotrader

    IMG-20230407-142022.jpg

Extended leather very nice, lovely option that :)

A sport design steering wheel and sport chrono retrofit would finish that off spec wise for me.

Still not 100% convinced on the round dash vents on the 718 vs the smaller more streamlined 981 vents, but what I don't like is the reflection that the newly positioned Chrono clock gives in the windscreen. It's much further back and really reflects on the screen, why have they moved it so far back?

Looks soo much better set back IMO, I have never noticed about reflections to be honest ill look harder next time i go out in it.

  13. Car sounds lovely I must admit, have thought about changing our GTS for a 4.0 one but to jump is too much currently so ill wait it out.

What's the deal with the warranty?

As its has multiple modifications/add on's from original wouldn't it void the manufacture warranty? Maybe worth taking it back to fully OEM spec and selling off the other bits.

Price wise I think £70k private sale is where its at personally

Good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

Anything can go pop ..luck of the draw .. most people buy cars with several owners, you do not have a skooby how they have been driven previously, regardless of service history?!

Completely agree it’s all a gamble even new cars can go wrong!

There are factors which can help the gamble though like proper servicing and maintenance which means it should in theory be less likely to go wrong.

The issue is I am trying to buy into the bottom end of the market I think which is never a good idea. I think I’ll sack off the idea and look into something else.

I'd expect someone in the 718 GTS camp to be looking and thinking 987.1 cars are cheap enough to drive every day and not worry too much if the engine goes pop.

    Not at all!

Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves! Not minted by any means just a massive petrol head!

starting to think it’s a silly idea owning one as a daily to be honest!

Have a look to what tyres it is running on, will also indicate if it’s been cherished or a case doing the bare minimum to keep the car on the road. Personally if you’ve reservations now , walk away plenty out there and or you could buy mine but it would not be cheap !!

On Toyos so a midrange tyre.

    I don't want a 3.4 I have been there and done that :)

Ideally want a 2.9 987.2 if I am honest but nothing around that meets my requirements.
