  1. It still looks like that, I am lucky enough to only use in the summer months and it has not seen any rain, it has gone slightly golden in places but adds to the finish. You would not know it has been opened up to have the Carnewal mod done.

@EVO Chris how much work was involved in polishing your exhaust?

Is was not too difficult and  about 4 hours work, the first thing you need is harpic x10 power, toilet cleaner lol, it removes all staining from the stainless bringing it to dull stainless finish, luckily I had no surface rust as the has been mostly used in the dry weather, next job was a stainless polishing mop kit, fleebay purchase if I remember correctly with different grades of soap, attached the mop to a drill and got polishing, came up a treat and stayed shiney ever since, looks fab and a great feeling of satisfaction…..I do like to polish stuff 😁. Check out YouTube with the harpic power x 10 and see what it does to stainless motorcycle exhaust, awesome stuff, 👍

  3. Hi all, after nearly 6 years ownership I have decided to sell on my 987.2, want to offer it out here first as this has been my favourite place to visit during ownership. The people, wealth of knowledge and experience on this place is the best I have ever come across and want it to go to a fellow member which will reflect in the price. Was going to put it up in spring but it’s just sitting in the heated garage so may as well offer it out to BoXa.net first. Anyone interested please pm me for details, unless the moderators are happy for me to put some details here.
Even though I have not finished with Porsche I have thoroughly enjoyed your company here, always felt welcome. Cheers all, Chris

So you can only have done 37 miles since you got it, yeah? 🙂

They don't shrink or suddenly turn to rust you know.  Although it is nice to have an immaculate car. (and a heated garage!)

Real world problems! I am the first to admit I have too many toys and not enough time to use them. It does about 500 summer miles ish a year and like everything I have I tinker more than use, it was very shiny on top and  underneath until Monday, booo.

On the up side its going to get its first wash in a long time, probably 5 years, it normally gets a fluffy Ken Dodd duster and Meguiars Quick wax before its cover is back on.

I converted the 3rd front bedroom to a garage to house the Boxster, knowing one day when I retire and we move it will be converted back, basically have my car in our bungalow lol.

These are pipes when I polished them a few years back.... :)

  5. I would go for colour and the lower mileage, you are an artist so colour obviously plays to your inner strengths. I mostly end up with silver cars somehow which is a bit MEH in colour, but nice and easy to live with. If I found a nice colour that pulled the rights strings in budget I would but it. Just think, in 6 months time you will be looking at it and still loving the colour.

  6. I use a sprint booster as I found my 2.9 throttle a little unresponsive, comparing to a Type R Honda and V6 SLK owned before. I do not have a sport button.

I have it set to a low setting (no. 2 with 10 being the highest most responsive setting) which suits the car, prodding the throttle a little compared to a lot makes it feel more nimble generally, upon first install (really easy) I had it set to 5 but for me it was way too explosive pulling away, It does nothing for the power just feels quicker to respond.

I enjoy what it does and only paid £100 for it a few years back.

  7. I have had a remap and sprint booster on my 2.9. The remap smoothed everything out and sharpened the gearbox feel, more responsive so I reckon the torque changed. Have no proof but definitely better than stock. The sprint booster made the biggest difference even though it does nothing but sharpen the go pedal, feels more alive.

  8. Does the Spyder Valvetronic exhaust have the cats in the silencer as per the original system? If not, you have removed a cat from each side, you could be you are on the edge of the limits of the O2 sensors. Your system is different to my 987.2 but I needed some O2 sensor elbows to keep the sensor away from the exhaust flow, this stopped the cell light that popped up occasionally.

  9. 987.2's have both cats in the manifold 800 cell each side which do not get removed unless you change the manifolds, so a performance exhaust on a 987.2 will be quieter than the 987.1 performance exhaust as they have 1 set of cats 400 cell in the manifold and 1 set 400cell in the exhaust itself, when replacing a pipe on the 987.1 a cat is often removed opening up sound.

I have the Carnewal exhaust on my 987.2 which seems in between the PSE open and standard, I replaced my standard manifold for 200 cell cats and manifolds and it was over the top for me so reverted back to the standard manifolds.

Had KW V3 coilovers fitted, 3 new hubs, full set of drop links and castor thrust arm bushes, bushes plus a full geometry and corner weight setup.

Corners are insane, truly insane. I was never totally happy with the handling on this car and to me didn’t feel planted at speed. I think the 13 yr old suspension was tired and the setup not configurable enough to dial out front end issues. It truly is night and day, corners you’d previously brake for now don’t need any adjustment in speed. The new thrust arm bushes are solid so the feel in the steering wheel is heightened and increases confidence as you have excellent feedback at the wheel. The ride height is lower, only 15mm and the front to back height is tilted forward. This helps to stop the front becoming light and potentially under steering with aggressive corner exit.

The general ride I would say is better being much more controlled and taught. There’s less pitch or roll and bumps are firm but upset the car less. So firm but not harsh or crashy.. I’m running 18s and did a lot of research into 18 or 19 inch wheels. I found that Boxster/Cayman race series use 18s so thought if it’s good enough for their handling needs then mine are easily catered for.. I expect the additional sidewall height helps to keep traction on our lovely roads too.. 19s do look better though 🙂

Braking pitches the car less and you can feel more predictable and tolerant behaviour. That feeling of bite is amplified and you can push on that with more confidence that you’ve got margin before a tyre is overwhelmed. It’s another plus for confidence.

Beside massive improvements in handling the stance of the car is now more sporty, not pimp my ride and not old skool 3inches around the wheels. You can get your fingers in between the arch and wheel but no more. It looks good and even though it’s not much lower you still feel it when driving.

It was a pricey enough mod but I wanted a great road handling car and I think it’s moved in the right direction with brakes probably being next.

Always thought my 987.2 had more to give and was considering this, if you don't mind me asking where did you get it done and how much?

    Thanks

    Chris

  11. Had a minor service at LaRose Porsche in Sevenoaks, all the staff are ace and very friendly and the tech gave me a guide around the underneath of my car after the service. Cannot fault the service and with brake fluid change it was £440 all in. OPC quoted £778.
